This is a true geek's paradise! I have 3 laptop computers. The first is my main, which I got through school. The second, a guy I used to work with bought a new laptop for his birthday in July and sold me his old one for $50. The "I" key is missing, but the plunger is still there, so i can still type with it. I use it for a juke box with windows media player, and a printer server, i've got my printer plugged into it and I've mapped it to my other computer across my wireless network so I can print from my main and it goes through my secondary to the printer. I also use it to back up my files from my main.

My third computer is from work. It's set up with a VPN to the network so when I'm on call, I can connect into the company network to do diagnostics on our systems.

The best part is that I downloaded a free program called synergy. This allows me to connect all 3 computers together through the wireless network, and use one wireless keyboard and mouse to control them all. I just move my mouse to the left or right and i'm working on that computer.

So now I can sit at my new desk, looking at 3 screens, and just point my mouse to whichever I want to work on at the moment. And it's all wireless! (well, except for the work computer, you can't have a VPN over a wireless network for security reasons)

This is so cool, I can just barely fathom it myself, and I'm a geek!

    Ooh! That sounds cool!

Do you have a link for synergy?
  • travelr712 said on Sep 14, 2008....
synergy is at sourceforge tin. here's the link. the configuration isn't exactly intuitive, when you go to set up the link, you have to remember to hit the + button, and you have to set up for both computers. if you have trouble, pm me and i'll try to give a better explaination.

That sounds great....can I try it at home? is it user friendly?
I have a laptop and a desktop p/c .   I'm not exactly a geek or tech  but I'd like to give it a shot.....maybe I can learn something (and hopefully not screw up the p/c).

yes you can rolling. just follow that link, go to binaries and download the .exe file. you need to configure it on both computers, one as the server, one as the client. i can help you with that configuration if you need, it's not completely intuative, but once you do it, it becomes obvious.

The most alarming is that Jacques Erasmus, Director of Prevx's security team, is also a well documented hacker. "Ex Hacker" is what he calls himself, but we are likely to find that his hacker's days aren't as far in the past as he'd like us to believe....
