I had the strangest dream last night. It was actually pretty cool and interesting. For me anyway. I have no idea if anyone else will find it interesting, but I'm writing it down anyway. I like to keep a written account of some of my most unusual dreams.

This one was an action/adventure movie. And I knew I was in a movie while it was going on. In fact, my co-stars in this film were Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. We were a trio of brothers who were like Indiana Jones adventurers. And the name of the movie was called The Legend of the Black Rose.

I was the youngest brother and I was the loose cannon. I always seemed to get us into trouble. Like for example we ended up in this huge dark cavern, being chased by bad guys. There was a woman there who I think was Salma Hayek. She was the love interest to Brad's character and she was being held hostage in this place.

We each held a dried rose in our hands and we knew the roses were important. My rose was purple, Matt's was blue, and Brad's was red. We ran to the top of this huge rock inside the cavern and there were three big holes in the ground below us. I got the plan that we were supposed to throw the roses into the holes, and this would do something to free us.

We argued about it because they kept insisting I might be wrong. They weren't sure if we should throw them in. But I went ahead and threw mine in without thinking. And then the ground started rumbling, and they figured they'd throw theirs in too. And I remember I watched as the roses floated down into the holes and disappeared. It made me think of lost love and how tragic it all was to just throw it all away.

But I was snapped out of that thought when the cavern began collapsing around us. I'd done the wrong thing. My brother's were right and I was stupid to do have done what I did. But we grabbed the woman and we all went running out of there. I was just glad that my brother's love was okay and that I didn't get her killed, even if I screwed up our plans.

Then it flashed forward and we were inside a shop that Salma's character owned. It was dark in there and lit by candles, and she was some sort of high priestess or something. She had magic supplies and incense and ancient scrolls and books on the tables. And she was explaining to us about the Legend of the Black Rose.

Our plan in the cave didn't work because we had the wrong color roses. And she explained the entire history of the story to us, but I don't remember what it was anymore. The scene switched again and we were all walking through an old wild west looking town. Lots of people were there and we were walking on a dirt street through town.

Then suddenly everyone started singing and dancing, and I realized this movie was not just action/adventure, but a musical too! This was the part where everyone burst into song and started sharing their innermost feelings. I felt unprepared because I didn't remember the words to the song. So I slipped away from everyone and tried to disappear.

But these people found me and captured me and were going to kill me. They took me to the top of this tree house looking thing and tied a rope around my hands that was attached to the tree. And they threw me off the side off the platform and let me dangle there over a ravine filled with rocks and water and broken trees.

They kept berating me and bringing up every bad thing I've ever done in my life. And they took a knife and started cutting the rope. Little by little. They wanted me to hang there and know I was going to die, while thinking about all the mistakes I had made in my life. Even bringing up things from my childhood.

I kept begging them to stop and let me back up and to stop cutting the rope. But the rope was getting weaker and almost about to break. If I struggled against it, it would just break faster. So I just hung there and prayed the rope wouldn't break.

Then all of a sudden my movie brother Brad, swooped in from another tree like Tarzan and he grabbed me just as the rope broke. He held onto me tightly and we swung from the other tree to a spot low enough to the ground to jump off and not be hurt. We rolled through the dirt and just narrowly missing crashing on the rocks.

And he told me that no matter what I had done or how many mistakes I had made, he would never let anyone else hurt me. Then in typical movie fashion, there was a moment of humor where he said the only one allowed to hurt me was him. And then he shoved me over and said he was getting too old to be swinging from trees saving my ass. But I knew it was lighthearted and he wasn't really mad at me.

Then at the end of dream, the movie was over. I was at a movie theater with my mom and we were looking for seats so we could watch my movie. She was so proud of me for becoming a movie star, but I kept telling her it wasn't that big of a deal. We ended up finding a whole row of empty seats in a great spot. My mom sat down and I went to sit next to her, but some guy stole the seat from me. Literally. He picked the seat up and took it away. And he said he needed it for his wife who was in a wheelchair.

I was just going to move to the seat on the other side of my mom, but suddenly the empty row was totally filled up. The guy who took my seat gave me his wifes wheelchair to sit in. But it was really super small and even if I'm not a very big person, my ass wouldn't fit in it. It was like for a small child. So I somehow got a lounge chair and I set that up so I could lay down and watch the movie. And now we were outside like at a drive in theater, under the stars. My mom had a lounge chair too. And sunglasses. And we had drinks in our hands and we were laughing because no one else was enjoying the movie in such style.

I felt good about myself at that moment because I'd taken a shitty situation and turned it into something much better for ourselves. And then I woke up before the movie started playing.

I've got some really good ideas about what this dream meant, but I'd love to hear what anyone else has to say too.

    What a funky dream!

I think the last part, about you turning a bad situation into something better, is kind of self-explanatory.

It did seem fitting that your dream movie brother saved your ass. I guess you could almost fit people to every role there (or at least it'd be intriguing if you did). And the rose colors were pretty interesting...there are a few different ways you could go with that.

I have more to say, but I need to think about a few things more. What are you thinking? I'm too curious to wait! :-p

That was a pretty interesting dream, alright. Huh. I have no idea who Matt Damon was supposed to be, but clearly I'm the Brad Pitt brother   :-P

A lot of this did make sense to me, actually. And I do think one of the important themes in it is that it's okay to make mistakes sometimes. No one is perfect. But people who love you are very forgiving of those mistakes.

I'd like to know what you think it all means too.

I love it when I dream an entire "movie."  I have alot of thoughts but will just say I could imagine you have been doing alot of soul searching, having some deep sleep issues, and the fun of living outside the edge of the boring.  (and this would make a good title for a screenplay)  (and wondering who your rescuer was in real life, and why you feel you need one--but if I need one, Brad Pitt will do!)

Infernal--I do think the ending was pretty self explanatory. I'm not entirely sure why it was my mom with me, except she's definitely the one person in my life who I always know loves me unconditionally. I can't exactly pinpoint real people for each role, but I do think the Brad Pitt character was Jack. I'll tell you more in depth what I think it means in a PM. You'll have to let me know what else you came up with too!

Mr. Box--Yup, I do think you were the Brad Pitt brother. He even had long hair like he did in Interview with the Vampire. It's a good point that one of the themes was about mistakes being okay to those who love me. That's exactly something I need to remember...

Wombat--I have been doing a lot of soul searching lately. So that does fit. This is the second time recently I've dreamed an entire movie, and at the end, I was in the theater getting ready to watch it. It's kind of weird! I have to say I like the title of this too for a real movie. Dream me is really creative!

Another clue that you are wanting to "review" your life so far, and maybe watch out for "Pitt" falls.....ha....  And yes, dreaming is wonderfully creative, and sometimes telling.  I love to wake up and analyze my own dreams.  I usually figure out why I "dreamed that."
  • evil_twin said on Sep 14, 2008....
wombat--That's another good idea for why Brad Pitt was in my dream. Pitt falls of life....interesting! I love analyzing my dreams too. You can learn a lot.
  • wombat said on Sep 14, 2008....
Mr. W still shakes his head when I tell him my dreams sometimes.  I get a huge kick out of it--especially when I explain them to him afterwards.  He says he doesn't dream, but occasionally he will freak out and tell me one.  I like being a dreamer!  (sorry to keep on, but this was a cool subject and a cool post.  have a good night and if you dream a movie again, sneak in your own popcorn and candy)

wombat--Nat likes it when I tell her my dreams. She doesn't always have any ideas what they mean, but they're usually entertaining for her! If I have another movie dream, I'll be sure and bring the candy!

et- I'd just like to know how you remembered all this. My dreams almost always begin melting away upon waking. Sometimes I can remember about two sentences worth into the next day. There are no more than half a dozen dreams I've had in my life that I remember in detail and they were all super violent or fear ridden.

I know you're into dream interpretation, so do you have a method?
  • dailyachesandpains said on Sep 14, 2008....
    Ummm...Okay.
Brad Pitt and Matt Damon were actually supposed to be filming a movie together, but Matt had to pull out.  This is actually true, Kyle.  Now, Mark Wahlberg will be playing the role that Matt was supposed to play.  How do I know this?  Because it's going to be filmed in MA and it's current title is "The Fighter" about a boxing legend here by the name of Micky Ward.  Brad will be playing the part of the trainer who was Ward's half-brother.  Mark will be "The Fighter" AKA Ward.  Yes, please, I hope you feel my pain when the Pitt Orphanage invades our state with Pap's in tow.  It was supposed to start filming in September...I haven't seen any action yet though.

SO, do you think you may have read about the casting change in Variety or something before you went to bed?  Marky Mark was talking about it on one late night show recently...maybe you saw that?

Your dream could be telling you to write a script similar to the way you came out of this...the feelings you had??  Or, just write the script of the movie that was in your dream! I don't even think I'm saying what I'm trying to say correctly.  You know...those meds are actually working! LOL!

I don't have an idea of what this dream means or if this is a dream with a meaning, not all are. Somehow you have seen things in the dream that are from the past thought even though you were playing in a movie, The end is also weird, about the seats and so on. I enjoyed reading this.

Good story line for Dreamworks studio,  Enjoyable read - even if it was just a dream.
  • evil_twin said on Sep 15, 2008....
beyond--I don't always remember my dreams in such detail. Usually I forget most of it by the time I wake up. But I've conditioned myself to really focus on the details as soon as I remember them. Plus I've also started writing things down on a notepad by my bed. So if I wake up and remember something vividly, I jot down notes and it usually helps me remember the rest of it. And with this one, when I woke up, the title, "The Legend of the Black Rose" kept going through my mind too. It takes practice to remember this stuff, and I can't always do it either.

daily--That's so weird they were going to be in a movie together! Honestly I don't read Variety, and I'm always in bed before the late night talk shows come on. So I had no idea about any of that. I'm sure your town will be a mad house if the entire Jolie-Pitt brood shows up! But maybe Brad will come alone this time? I should write a script about this dream! If only I could actually remember what the legend was, because that's important. And that's the one detail I can't recall!

skald--I'm glad you enjoyed reading this. I feel like the dream does have some meaning for me, because a lot of the emotions are things that I've been going through recently.

scipio--I'm glad you liked it. Maybe I can write a real movie?

being new here i tend to be a bit shy, but i'll give my two cents... i think the part about the seats filling up and being taken away is some deep feeling of not fitting in and then the fact you styled out on a lounge chair is your feeling of giving the finger to the rest of the world and appreciating your own uniqueness?????
  • dailyachesandpains said on Sep 15, 2008....
"I should write a script about this dream! If only I could actually remember what the legend was, because that's important. And that's the one detail I can't recall!"
Could that be where the empty seats and drive-in comes in?
Empty seats...your turn to write the script and FILL the seats.
Drive-in...you were under the *STARS*= Starring character in your script/film??  Your mom wearing sunglasses because the flashes are too bright on premier night!  Nobody else was watching the film in style like you and your mom because you're getting that fat paycheck when you sell that script and will afford that *style*!
I mean...when you think about it, it's a basic field by day at drive-ins.  Translation to me would be that your mind is wide open to develop the legend.  The legend could be as big as the "field"...?

Meh...not so worried about the film.  It shouldn't bother my direct area.  Mel Gibson's around, actually starring in a movie for the first time, in a long time.  The title is "Edge of Darkness" and people are all like "OMG! OMG!"  I love that I can have the power of "whatever" and see these people have their moments instead of being one of them.  It actually makes me smile!  I was star struck once, by one of the crabbers on Deadliest Catch LOL!  A REAL life person that didn't realize all the attention the show would get.  That was the "awesome" factor!

You really should turn this into a movie.  Great dream!  I think there's a lot of stuff in here.  What pops out at me the most is that when everyone started singing and sharing their innermost feelings, you couldn't remember the words.  Do you sometimes have trouble talking about your innermost feelings?

About Brad Pitt saving your ass and telling you that you will always be protected... it would be easy to say that he is Mr. Box, but I tend to go along more with the idea that all the characters in the dream are some aspect of you, so I would say that there must be some part of you that is ready to make sure that you stay safe.  Or then again, it could be that you see Natalie as your protectress, because of the symbolism of the roses and how you thought it was a shame to throw it all away.

The roses could have another meaning as well.  Didn't you choose a name something like blackthorn for your alt that represented the depressed side of you?  Maybe this has something to do with the thorns on the roses representing your depression... what exactly is it that you're thinking of throwing away?  (rhetorical question).  If you throw away your depression, will the earth start to tremble... will you feel less sure of your footing because you are so used to going through this world with that weight around your neck?  Are you willing to give it a try?

  • skald said on Sep 15, 2008....
Sorry I might have said this differently. My afterthought was that I think the roses mean something. I think, the dream has meaning but what I meant to say that it was not all symbolic. I think the roses are symbols. Talking an other language can sometimes, change things. I am not so clear when I am speaking as I would be in my own language. When I was talking about meaning I meant, symbols

And of course this dream has a meaning for you.
  • evil_twin said on Sep 15, 2008....
fraggle--Don't worry about jumping in with your two cents. I wanna hear it! I think that's a good interpretation too. Because I definitely have issues sometimes with not feeling like I fit in.

daily--Are you saying this dream is telling me to be a screenwriter? That would be cool if it was! I'm not sure I'd even know where to start writing a screenplay, but it would be a lot of fun :-) Stars don't usually phase me, considering where I live. But there are a few that I'd be pretty excited to run across!

kruu--I do have trouble sharing my innermost feelings. It's hard for me sometimes to do that. I liked your idea that the roses represented thorns and my depression. That was my alt name and I never actually thought about that. Blackthorn/black roses, is all kind of the same theme. Interesting! And as weird as it sounds, sometimes it does feel strange to try and live without depression. Because it is such a part of how I've always lived. Lots of things to think to about there.....and I will try and stop by your post again and take a look at that dream :-)

skald--Oh it's okay. I know it's hard sometimes to express what you want to say :-) Yeah sometimes not everything is symbolic. Sometimes dreams are just dreams. But I do think the roses meant something too. They symbolize love, so it must mean something that I was throwing them away, and then the earth started to shake.

  • skald said on Sep 16, 2008....
Yes, it must mean something and I think you will heed it. Yes, some are symbolic as you say and some just dreams but some are also travels. you go somewhere in your  body and you are shown things. Some could be memories from other lives if there are things like that. Dreams are so many things, I think and by the way I dreamed a dream last night that might be symbolic but I guess I have to wait to see what it means.

An old man at the nursing home where mum is told me he dreamed often what was going to happen the next day but in symbols. He said that if he saw a dog run a certain way, it was going to rain on the hay the next day. It is strange how this generation has so much different symbols than my generation or yours at least in my country.
  • evil_twin said on Sep 16, 2008....
skald--I really love the concept that some dreams are memories of past lives. That's very intriguing. And I have a friend who routinely has dreams that I swear are glimpses of another life. They're so detailed. I've had a few dreams that turned out to come true in certain ways, but nothing entirely prophetic. That's really cool about the guy in the nursing home though. I didn't realize you were so interested in dreams. It's really cool to learn that!

E_T:  Hell yeah I'm telling you to draft it up!  You have to!  Just write the entire story, then edit it and then write the script.  You can do it!  There's free software and guides out there that can help you!

e_t:  Yeah, that's very similar to the way that victims of abuse may stay in abusive relationships because they've never known anything else, and they are afraid of the unknown.  I find myself sabotaging a lot of my own plans because of a fear of success.  I'm afraid I won't be able to handle it, so I don't give myself a chance.  So then, I stay poor, but at least I know how to do that... and I leave or sabotage relationships, because I know how to do lonely.
  • evil_twin said on Sep 16, 2008....
daily--Oh I don't know...I'll see what I can do! I suppose I might be good at it if I tried.

kruu--It's kind of crazy how stuff like that works. It doesn't make much sense that anyone would choose something negative, just because it's familiar. But I definitely feel twinges of that sometimes. And I have a fear of failure that often keeps me from even trying anything. Because I just assume I'll fail, and if I never try, then I won't have to see myself fail.
  • skald said on Sep 16, 2008....
Kyle.  It is very common here that people are interested in dreams. Maybe it was even more so before. I am very open and I have had many strange dreams in my life time. Even so that I can be sure that two souls can meet in dreams, even though both are living. I had a dream like that when I was 17 and on the way home to Iceland after having been in Sweden. I dreamed that I told my mother I had come home in "breath" you will find this strange but I was speaking in English and in Icelandic the word breath and the word spirit sound alike. The next day I came home unexpectedly and I asked my mother if she was not surprised that I was home. She said no, I dreamed you this morning and you said you came in breath. She even said at 8 and I just woke up at 8 after having dreamed this.

My mother saw the rural country and the farm she came to when she was a young girl the night before she went there and she had never been there.

I could tell you more and more.
  • evil_twin said on Sep 16, 2008....
skald--That's really interesting! I've also  believe two living people can meet each other in dreams. I had an experience like that too. It was definitely interesting! I think that when we sleep our souls can travel around. I've always been fascinated by dreams too. And I think it's really interesting that people in Iceland are so open with things like this. I think I'd love it there!

Ky...don't sell yourself short!  You can do it!  I know how people like "us" can often have self doubts about our abilities.  I'm one of  those people like "us" that's actually saying that if it were me, I would at least give it a shot.  You might be able to sell it for 5K, or 500K...never know, right?

My ex boyfriends brother sold a story he wrote that ended up being a film for 70K.  It was the most HORRIBLE screen I had ever read.  I saw the movie and thought "Those poor SUCKERS that purchased this!" Hell...he even admitted the movie sucked, and so did the story.  He was just goofing off one day and started writing and then the script was written and he was laughing all the way to the bank.  This is over 10 years ago now.

    YOU CAN DO IT!

daily--That's an interesting story. Hmm...I could use an extra 70k! I have no clue how to even really get started on something like that. But I'm happy you think I can do it. It just seems like everyone in the world is trying to sell a script out here. I've got  a friend who has a pile of screenplays and novels he's written over the years and no one has even looked at them. It's so competitive!

Kruu--I do think it might be a lot less pressure for me to think of that as a hobby. I don't work that well creatively under pressure.

skald--I think eventually I'd get used to the weather there :-) There is a lot to be explored with dreams. I totally agree.

Kruu:  HELL YEAH GIRL!  I'd LOVE to see anything you write, on or off screen!

Ky: True...it is big business now and very competitive.  You can find someone to shop it for you (the one that does it professionally) and then work on a split/percentage when it gets sold.  I forget the real title of their job...the shoppers.  I will bang my head on the desk all day until I remember!  Just write it in your spare time.  I wouldn't get too involved with it though, do it as a hobby.  If you do it and get literally "serious" about it, the anxiety and frustration you could experience...whew, I wouldn't want you to have any added stress in life.

e_t:  You might even find the writing process itself therapeutic.  Whenever I'm working on a major piece of writing, the thing seems to take on a life of its own, and goes off in directions I never expected.  Especially since this is based on a dream, you may discover a lot more about the meaning of the dream to you by turning it into a novel or a screenplay.
