I got a haircut last week and it turned out absolutely awful. I've been dealing with some natural curl this summer, which is a new hair development, and my usual straight bob just wasn't working for me. So, I asked my hairstylist to cut it to work with the curl. I had a photo, but she must not have paid attention to it.
When I left the salon, it looked ok because she styled it. She took a lot longer than usual, but I thought that was because she was telling me all about her vacation. The next day I tried to style it after my shower and would have loved to throw my hairbrush at her. There was no way I could style it the same way she did.
You see, rain had moved in and with that came humidity to curl my hair. I had explained to her...more than once...that it was my current trend. I found that she had cut the back of my hair too close that it wouldn't curl, but left the sides long enough that they wanted to curl and separate from the back. There was no blending. She made my little problem worse instead of fixing it. It looked like I had two different hairstyles going.
That's a disaster in my book.
I tried blow drying it straight and using a flat iron on it. It would only stay straight if I gave myself a hairspray helmet. Otherwise, half my hair curled on its own and the other half didn't. I absolutely hated it.
Looking in the mirror just made me angry. I entertained the notion of going back to her and having her fix it. Then I decided that I wasn't about to go pay her again to fix what she had done.
So this morning, I bravely took out my hair scissors I keep for bang trims, took a big breath and decided I could fix it. Fresh from the shower and while my hair was wanting to curl, I combed it all toward my face and cut it at an angle that would frame my face. I got rid of that asymmetrical point that would look great if my hair was bone straight. It looked ridiculous as a ringlet looped toward my face. I snipped and flipped just on the edges of the haircut to make it work with the curl.
For once, I would say I did a pretty good job. I took about two inches off in total to get it to blend with the back and work with the curl. I don't look half bad.
I don't know what went wrong. My hairstylist usually does a great job. This haircut sucked pond water.
At least now when I look into the mirror, I don't blow steam out my ears.
