I think it is very wrong.....Women know when they've missed their period.....why would you wait that long?.....I don't think I even want to know how many babies are killed in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy.

    I had a thought today.....I really don't remember anything that happened before the age of 2 or 3 years old.....but I know I was alive.....I showed emotion....etc.
It seems to me that abortion advocates take the view that unborn babies are not yet beings.....if that is the case, then, I guess I wasn't either until my first memory of life.....are we going to start aborting 2 year olds?

Both China and India have a tradition of post first trimester abortions, in fact post birth abortions. When little girls are born, both in China and India, they have often been killed. The argument for post birth abortions is financial, economic, I suppose. Family too poor to support a baby girl, would rather bring up a baby boy who will end up making more money, something along those lines I guess. What else could it be? Some form of ignorance or other. It is still going on, big time. To this day, millions of baby girls in China and India are being murdered. There is actually such a shortage of marriageable girls in India that they are being kidnapped.

As for mid-trimester abortions in America, the case would be that the mother doesn't want to have a baby right now, so why should she have to? Maybe she isn't old enough, or isn't financially prepared enough, or any reason at all that may be influencing her. In the land of the free, why can't she be free to choose whether or not to have a baby? I think that would sum up the arguments. Why should we live in a country where the government makes decisions for us, if we are supposed to be "free"? It could be considered the height of fascism to force a woman to have a baby she doesn't want to have.

I'd kind of like to be able to abort older children as well, into their 20s and 30s. They can sometimes be a royal pain in the ass.

Post first trimester abortions are wrong and shouldn't happen.  I basically agree with D6's point of view on this situation.

There are is really only one actual reason why the people defend late term abortion and that is that the only reason the right discusses them at all is in the hopes of outlawing all abotion.  Late term (in this case given the broadest possible definition as 13 weeks forward) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Late_term_abortion#cite_note-cdc2003-12 abortions make up roughly 10% of abortions.

A lot of the reason for getting late term abortion is difficulty arranging it, or fear of talking about it.

If I felt we could trust a party that has cut funding for AIDS prevention in Africa for handing out condoms, a party that has been fighting against HPV vaccines because vaccinations against STD's will turn girls into sluts, who have debated against the Morning after pill to put a solid no on abortions after the first trimester and leave it alone I'd vote with them.

This is unfortunately one of those times where we have to defend the disgusting people at the fringe because they are the buffer zone.  Kida like I don't agree with anything Frit77 says but the people who want to ban him are the same people who want to ban video games with violence.

Usually it happens because something medically has gone very wrong with the fetus or the mother.

i don't debate abortion, because i believe that is a woman's choice, not mine.

I think it depends on the circumstances.  I honestly don't think that most women who have abortions after the first trimester are doing it for shits and giggles.

I know that anecdotal evidence does not an argument make, but one of my mom's co-workers had a second-trimester abortion.  I'm not sure how far along she was, but I know that she was at least 20 weeks into her pregnancy.  Her baby was anencephalic and had a partially-developed heart (IIRC, there were other serious physical defects as well).  She could have carried to term, but as her baby had a zero percent chance of surviving outside of her womb, she and her husband opted for termination.

By the time the first baby's due date rolled around, my mom's co-worker was pregnant again and she ended up having two healthy daughters 14 months apart.

In australia the only way you can get a post 1 trimester abortion is if the fetus is malformed and poses a risk to the mother or there are genetic problems (serious) with the fetus as Eilan has noted above.

Under no circumstances can you get on otherwise.

I still hold true to the belief it is my choice to do what I believe is right for me and my body at all times, regardless of what any man says, or women.

No it isn't. It's up to me, not you.

China has a one-child law which penalizes families from having more than one child. It's also against PRC law to abort based on gender.

i can't honestly see any reason other than health to have one after the first trimester.
by that point you've had plenty of time to think about it and make a decision.

Personally, I don't believe in abortion at all. Its not something I could ever do even if there was something wrong with my baby.
I do understand why some women feel the necessity to do it. Especially, when we are talking about defects that will leave a child in a vegetative state from birth. But, I have also been told that my child would never talk or live a normal life and he is a happy healthy 13 year old. The medical world isn't perfect and it can't always predict the outcome of a life. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't give that life a chance.

Vacant ~ You know what I respect most about what you said is that you honor so much that which you are which is the ultimate mother.  I don't believe that its an easy choice full stop to go ahead or not but what I understand from many is the sense that all life is important and worthy and wanted.  In you I will always learn that sense of motherhood I may never get to experience myself.  I admire you.
