My little boy started crying loudly again tonight - briefly, but loudly, and as my husband and I hurried to hush him, I rushed across the living room and heard my neighbor yell "hey!" before he slammed his door.
What is this guy's problem???!!! My son crying a little, when he had been happy and good all day was enough to provoke this kind of response? That was extremely rude!
My husband keeps telling me to forget about it, but something about this really bothers me. It's as if our neighbor was trying to intimidate us or bully us into silence. A two-year old is going to have tantrums sometimes--that can't be helped. And when their son turns two they will relearn that soon enough.
This reminded me of the time when my son was a baby, and we were at a book store. He started to cry and some grumpy old guy turned around and said "shhh," as if he were a librarian with the right to enforce silence. I was so tempted to remind him that we were in a store, not a library, and while most customers are relatively quiet in a bookstore, there is no rule that requires us to be silent.
Some people obviously like to impose their will on others, even when it's none of their business. This has made me more determined to get a house!
Maybe if I get a chance to talk to his wife, I might find some answers. Otherwise, it seems that our neighbor is a grumpy guy, indeed. Grrrrr....
