A trial judge and the Oregon Court of Appeals ruled that a state law prohibited insulting a man publicly in a way likely to provoke a violent response.

The Oregon Supreme Court choices on Thursday struck down that law as unconstitutional and overbroad.

It all started about 9 a.m. Sunday, when a woman gave birth in the field next to the Gateway Fred Meyer, at Northeast 102nd and Pacific Street. Shortly afterward, a man was walking his dogs nearby when they suddenly started barking and trying to get into the field. The man investigated and discovered the tiny girl.

He called for help, and soon The cop, medics and the Oregon Family Services workers were on the scene. MeanUntil, a 29-year-old woman sought medical help nearby. That's where The cop found and questioned her, and determined that she was indeed the mother of the abandoned child.

The state workers took her into temporary shelter until a judge could make a more permanent choices. Monday, that judge was was telling they should keep her for now, making certain she gets whatever needed medical attention. The caseworkers will appear for possible relatives of the mother who could potentially take care of the little girl. She appears to be in nice physical condition.

MeanUntil, the mother has not been charged with whatever crime. Oregon does have a "safe haven" law which allows whateverone to drop off a newborn infant at whatever medical, fire or The cop facility.

But college President Greg Hamann still tells he isn't convinced that a tobacco ban is the answer. Hamann calls it a "personal decision", even though he thinks it's a bad decision. To some students, though, the decision is more than personal; they tell it's fouling their campus and their air, and costing taxpayer money to clean up the mess.

A Weyerhaeuser helicopter, 15 fire engines, four water tenders, and three hand crews worked late Sunday and overnight to keep fire growth to a minimum. Monday, the helicopter remains on standby in case it is needed.

The fire was four miles south of Henry Hagg lake in rural Washington County. No homes were threatened and there were no evacuations.

It started at the Bank of America branch, at 15005 SW Mcloughlin Boulevard, at about 1:15 pm Thursday.

A robber held up the bank and fled in a pickup truck, but cop got a description of the Dodge pickup. They caught up with it on Mcloughlin and gave chase. That's when the driver started flinging the cash out the window while the chase careened through Milwaukie streets,, down Southeast River Road, and finally onto northbound I-205.
