The page you were looking for no longer exists

Just a quirky habit of mine I noticed, but wondered if anyone else does it and who.

I just went through my email.  I've had my yahoo account forever so stuff tends to pile up on a daily basis.  I kinda smirked as I realized that first I dumped the spam, who needs it.  Next I deleted the stuff I'm positive is junk mail, but I'm too lazy to designate as spam.  Then I prioritize the remainder from boring but neccesary to "dessert" mail.  The stuff I cannot wait to read.

I plowed through bill notices, stuff my kids sends that is really junk, but since they sent it I will open it and send a quick note, stuff that could be interesting but will require more work and finally ..................

dessert email!!!!

I got a reply from the daughter of the living family I recently discovered.  She seems as excited as I am and had questions.  She also is planning to send out pictures via postal mail.  I'm so excited.  I just wish I wasn't up to my butt in work today.  It will have to wait until I get home.

What a weird habit!  It's like I hold off on the fun stuff as a mini reward for reading the boring stuff.  That's probably also why I can eat just one piece of chocolate.

So, do you save the best emails for last or zoom right into them right off the bat?

unique- I don't get that much e-mail (thankfully) so I don't have that much zooming to do. But I know all about saving the best for last. With jelly beans I save the best for last. With mixed nuts I save the best for last. Then my wife comes in and eats the best ones.

She doesn't care how I do my e-mail, but she sure likes the way I eat jelly beans and mixed nuts.

BTV - LOL You must love her very much to let her go straight to the good ones you've been saving ;)

Unique:  I do the exact same thing as you do!  I wonder if everyone else does it that way and how it became the order?!  LOL!

    Daily

daily - I suspect that I've been programmed to seek rewards since childhood, so now I merely set up my own system of work and rewards.

I go backwards, I read the good ones first, then if I get time I go back and delete the junk...my apartment is a statement to that whole way of life!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 10, 2008....
fraggle - [shutters]  That one sentence sends the OCD in me off the richter scale.  What is there to look forward to if you read the good stuff first?  Where's the motivation to take care of the junk?!!!  Egads!  Another life form.
  • beyondtheveil said on Sep 10, 2008....
unique-  Love her? - she's sneaky.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 10, 2008....
BTV - OH!!!!  I need to take classes from her.
  • secretlife said on Sep 10, 2008....
i do my deleting of junk first.
in my personal account it's mostly junk.
at work i also read the stuff i know i can just delete quickly first-  and save the stuff that needs concentration or filing away for after that-

i don't get a whole lot of what anyone would call "dessert" email!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 10, 2008....
SL - I don't either lately, but this email from the "long lost" had all kinds of juicy tid bits that I'm gonna really enjoy.
  • vacantmind said on Sep 10, 2008....
My yahoo account is where I send all the spam! If I fill out anything online it goes there. My other account I just give to family and friends. I pretty much read everything.
  • Lucytorial said on Sep 10, 2008....
I'm methodical in my approach.  Its based on time basically, first in first responded.  I kind of like the surprise of a good email amongst the shit.  I have something like 4 email accounts, stoopid me, so I spend every morning going through them.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 10, 2008....
Lucy - LOL I have a few too.  (work, personal, etc.)  I don't have the patience to use a first in first out approach to reducing the clutter in there.
  • wombat said on Sep 10, 2008....
I don't get that many emails anymore, but I delete the junk and can't wait to open the surprise ones.  A friend sends me funny cartoons and interesting stories and pics from back home which is nice.  I accidentally "group sent" a bunch of emails to spam when I was trying to get rid of the Publisher's House Clearing bombardment----and I almost missed seeing the pics from the recent high school reunion.  I moved them back to the inbox before the trash got picked up, thank goodness!

I do the same thing as you do most of the time, uni.  I love getting dessert e-mails!  Especially a nice long one that makes you want to read it again.  It's like licking the spoon.  :)

  • donnaaaaa said on Sep 10, 2008....
i do like you......get rid of the junk....!!! however, i save all the "goodies" for when i really have time to go through them......sometimes i get so pissed because i should have......opened it sooner.  but it's still "goodies" just the same.  its kinda fun and something to look forward to....
  • Fallyn said on Sep 10, 2008....
    i used to do that....but i'm not sure why i don't anymore.
now i go right to the good stuff.

with food however it's still the other way....my favorites are the last on my plate to go.

  • travelr712 said on Sep 10, 2008....
i read and respond them as they come in. i'm a fifo kinda guy :-)
  • hotaka said on Sep 10, 2008....
Business mail gets first priority. Then mail from friends whom I want to hear from but know I won't have time to respond to. Mail in Japanese tends to get put off until I have the time to concentrate on reading and replying. But the first on the list is remove junk. Get the clutter into the trash.

And I can never eat just one piece of chocolate.

Delete all useless messages first. That cleans up the mail box and helps to load the remaining messages faster. Like to operate in a clutter free enviroment. Save the best for the last.
  • sadsack said on Sep 11, 2008....
I have to clear the clutter first before I can settle down peacefully to read the good stuff. I'm the same way about food, too. I read somewhere that saving the tidbits for the last is the sign of a secure person, you don't think someone's gonna snatch away your stuff.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 11, 2008....
wombie - yes, you're like me in getting the "chores" done first.

MissMimi - Yes!  I swear we're twins.  I think I read my dessert email about 4 times yesterday.  I also didn't share it with my sis or my aunt who would have loved reading it.  I may share it today.

donnaaaa - I get in trouble some times for reading my personal stuff at work.  I just don't have the patience to wait.

Fallyn - Hmmm, that's curious.  When I eat I usually eat the messiest food first.

trav - I don't get it, but I've heard a few people who are fifos.

hotaka - so you don't have a personal email account?  I can see reading work first though.

scipio - so you're on pretty much the same system as me.

sadsack - I hadn't heard that.  I'm not sure that's true, but I suppose there is some truth to it.  I don't consider myself "secure" by a long shot, but I do read the best last.
  • travelr712 said on Sep 11, 2008....
fifo = first in, first out ui
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 11, 2008....
trav - right.  general inventory principal.  I prescribe to wifo = worst in first out
  • travelr712 said on Sep 11, 2008....
also a programming term ui. myself, i subscribe to lofb - last out, first beer :-D
  • skald said on Sep 11, 2008....
Absolutely, I save the best mail until I have gone through the lot. I have a very good filter and most of my spam goes there however.

Let us know more about the new relation, you have found. That is when she contacts you and how it goes and about the pictures. I am excited too. (((((((((((hugs))))))))))))
  • CayenneMan said on Sep 11, 2008....
I myself delete all the garbage first, and then I read my mail. I must admit I do this quickly and if I ever deleted a message from publishers clearinghouse sweepstakes telling me I won a million dollars but I need to be home at a certain time and missed out because of  . . . well I think I'd be coughing up lung and then some.  I hope all goes well for you this week-end uniquely-ironic with the marriage thing.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 11, 2008....
trav - bwa ha ha ha!

skald - my dessert was a letter from her.  There was a lot of older family history she was not right about, so I'm trying to find the nicest way possible to tell her that she was told wrong.  I'm really excited about getting the pictures she will send.

CM - I've done that. (throwing out something I really wanted)  I always scan my junk mail folder just to be sure I'm not missing stuff.  Thanks for the good wishes.  I just found out the other one wants me to wear a lapel mic.  EEeeck!

I need some help....

Meh

I'm running out of title ideas today....
and why I don't volunteer my handywoman skills much...
It is interesting that people "say" they want peace on earth but see it as a far away thing that they have not much, if anything , to do with. Peace begins with me is an age old saying and is infact a song that is sang all over the world at every gat...
or is that a myth?...
