every now & again, a team goes out and wins a game so convincingly that people (esp other teams) sit up & take notice.

last season, this is what the new england patriots did to opponents for almost the entirety of the regular season--it was a breathtaking feat.

such games are known as statement games: the team is making a statement that we better pay attention to what they're doing because they're that formidable.

in 4 of yesterday's games: the steelers, falcons, bills & eagles all won their games in such decisive fashion that they all made statements, esp the eagles, led by the sparkling play of donovan mcnabb. indeed, one might justifiably argue that this wasn't a statement game by the eagles so much as it was a statement game by donovan mcnabb, whose statement is a simple one: "i'm healthy again so look out!"

mamie, your guys were impressive!

mimi, sorry about the browns, my sympathies to mr. mimi.

daily, that was terrible about tom brady's injury--do you know when there'll be an update about his status?

LOL  Oh Ed...  mrMimi ridicules the Browns and gives me lip about them at any and all given opportunities.  His teams are the Steelers and the Seahawks, as well as the individual players on his fantasy teams.

Don't worry.  Browns fans know all about disappointment.  It's what we do.  ;)

Matt Cassel is gonna be starter for Patriots now. About time. Now I may watch, if I know when the games are on!

Funny you should bring Brady up, Ed.
I was with Little D. yesterday getting her hair cut and a guy walked in.  He accepted a call on his cell while waiting and, of course, I got to listen a little but didn't capture everything:

Guy: "Nah man I worked the Bellicheck press confrence.
    Silence for a few seconds
Guy:  Stated the question he asked Bill to the person on the other end of the phone and I forget what it was now.
Guy: "Man, that guy is such an ass.  Ask him one question and tell me he's not indimidating.  Ask him about his shit stain on his boxers, he still won't budge"

As far as we have heard he's out for the season with a torn ACL that will require surgery.

For some strange reason, I'm getting a flash-back to when he first took the field (I believe in Pittsburgh) years ago for a hurting Bledsoe and then became our starter.  Hard to believe he was 3rd string not too long ago!

I'm so over Brady though, Ed.  I can't stand to hear about his stupid romance with Gizelle and how much money he spent on dirt out in LA and that he made millions in real estate after buying an entire brownstone downtown Boston and sold it and made XXXX$'s off of it and how real estate is his other game.

When Mr. D's partner showed his house in Quincy, a few years ago now, he said he and his client got an "EAWIE!" moment when they went into the home theatre.  He said the client took a pass on the house (which he could afford) because the thought of Tara Reid being there disgusted him! LOL!  Brady "dated" her.  Apparently, a "wicked cool" house though!

Sorry...I went off there.  Just living around here is hard enough having to hear about him 365 days a year.  Mr. Daily would kick my butt if he ever knew I publicly stated my gripes!  LOL!

mimi: wow, i see what you mean re: disappointment! yeesh, they got clobbered by the steelers!

d6: dude, did your team just drop a game to SF? man, i'm sorry about that!

silver phoenix: so cassel's doing a pretty nice job filling in, it seems. the jets are supposed to be pretty decent i understand, and they do have brett favre these days...

daily: i have to say, the pats looked pretty good yesterday! and yeah, i know that brady's a good-looking guy, plays in a dominating team, but enough already about him! that's so funny about mr d's partner and the tara reid factor! :D

Ed:  I didn't even watch it yesterday, but it was on in the background.  Mr. Daily wasn't yelling as much as normal...guess that's a good thing?  LOL!  I think my dream come true would be a Bledsoe moment to happen to Brady.

Looking back on this, I wonder if the Eagles-Rams game was indeed a statement game. Then I remembered it was only the Rams. To hell with them, I'm gonna watch the Bills.
