The small stage was bright. Looking out at the small gallery, I could see the strange conglomerate awaiting our performance. It seemed like a more family-oriented gathering that night: there were a few elderly people, a couple young children running around, and a handful of mid-life parental adults. We had about 4 fans sitting in the back. Needless to say, it wasn't exactly our ideal audience, but it was an audience none-the-less. Just one person sitting around could be enough audience for me to play a show. I just love to play.
The acoustic guitar felt strong on my lap, and the pick felt small in my hand. I could feel the extra pick in my bra, reminding me of its existence. The jacket I was wearing was a bad idea since well-lit stages are always hot, but I look good in it so who cares. Microphones at my mouth and the guitar clustered me, but I ignored it and looked to my friend sitting next to me with her simple one microphone.
My best friend and only band mate spoke somewhat of an introduction and we began the first song of our set, the first song we wrote together. Earlier that day, I had jokingly introduced the song to our 2-person rehearsal audience as, "A simple love song about a girl and her needle". It started as a poem I wrote about heroin, then put to a simple chord progression I had written (I think while on heroin?) with my friend's amazing voice. And that's how we had started... but anyway, I'm playing a show!
At the end of the song the audience clapped, but as our set continued the audience seemed to drift away and into conversations. Like I said before, it wasn't exactly the most appropriate crowd for our music.
The really beautiful thing though, is that when I played my softer, deep, love song (my favorite song to play) the entire audience hushed and listened. I love playing that song, I sing it myself and by myself so I get to really use my voice. Since it was written while I had a sore throat, it's deeper and almost perfect for my range. At the end of that one, I looked up to see that I had caught everyone's attention again.
Few mistakes were made through-out the set, even though it was our first time performing most of the songs on stage. It went well, in my opinion extremely well. It felt so good just to play, and it was an added bonus to have an audience, applause, and even compliments.

Afterwards, I went to a party and did a keg-stand. lol.

Last night was sweet as fuck. [until the cops came] >_<

Hoping to tell you all more stories of fun shows in the months that follow ^_^
