MissMimi's tags:
I had lunch today with an old friend (not that she's old, but we've known each other since college days).  My sisters and I have proclaimed her to be an honorary Mimi Sister.  She lives about ten minutes drive from me, and yet we only see each other once every couple of months.  We always manage to pick up right where we left off.  So, we went and had breakfast at lunch time.

She's recenlty been hired by the federal government, subject to a background check and security clearance.  She put me down as a reference.  So about a week ago I got a letter from the US Personnel Office, or something like that.  It contained a  very official looking questionnaire.

Do you know the above named person?  (a. yes I know this person, b. I used to know this person, and c. I have no idea who this person is)

How long have you known the above named person? (Number of years and months you have known this person)

How often do you see the above named person?

Does this person live at the above named address?

And my personal favorite,

Do you have any personal knowledge about this person that would lead you to believe this person would not be a good employee of the US Government?

Hmmm.  Good thing I am a nice person, and I was in a good mood that day.  A wrong answer here could really cause a lot of grief.

I guess I shouldn't have mentioned our drunken sprees in our misspent youth, huh?  ;)

Please Mimibabes, can I have a reference too?  I'll do a trade off with you.  What'll we apply for?

yea, you could have said: I have never witnessed someone who could chug a beer so damn fast...or consume an entire fifth of vodka on their own, this person has leadership potential!!

LOL I thought those were requirements for federal employees! ;)  You are a good friend though so I'm sure she'll fly through the grueling process.

I would never answer a letter like that. It sounds like Nazy Germany to me.

I've seen my friend Rose twice in the last 9 years, and the moment we sat down in the diner each time, we both said "Remember the Wallington cockroach?"
All the crazy things our kids did, all the trouble they got into, all the trouble WE got into because of them...and that's what we remember...the cockroach on the wall of the diner in Wallington.
Friends like that are treasures, MissMimi

Botty -- so, I say something nice about you and you say something nice about me?  Okay, you go first.  ;)

Mamie -- yep, cheap vodka was the drink of choice in college, mixed with orange juice.  Blecch.

uni -- I gave the information they wanted without getting too chatty.  She's a big a goody-two-shoes as I am.

skald -- I did feel a little strange about it.  The only reason I did it willingly is because she had told me before hand to expect either a letter or a phone call.

quilty -- I told her she was lucky I was such a nice person.  I think she already has the job, and this is a formality.  The feds check out everybody nowadays.

Twiggy -- They are treasures.  We share a lot of history, we both know the other's extended family, I guess we even know which closet the skeletons are in.  :D  If I could have another sister, she would be my pick.
