Just got back from Cannes and had an awesome and then some vacation. It's a place that's very relaxing and beautiful. There's a subtle sensuality there that's intoxicating. It soothes away all my rough edges and leaves me in a state of sensual calm. I love that Cannes is ritzy without the gaudy and cool without the attitude. Some people are dressed up to the super summer max but they’re very friendly – sans “arrogance.” It’s so surprising actually. I’ve never seen such an upscale place that didn’t have a bit of snootiness. It was a pleasure to talk to people and they were so easygoing I felt right at home.  I’d love to have a summer place there.  Every time we ate at a restaurant we ended up having a great conversation with the people sitting next to us. There’s nothing like a fine bottle of wine and good conversation and we had plenty of both plus water, water, everywhere. It was great to stroll along the boardwalk and watch the cruise ships all lit up and docked a short distance away. I could have stayed there another month at least.

We stayed at a charming, smallish hotel close to the beach – not one of the ritzy, fashion plate hangouts but more of a mom and pop situation – or in this case, pop – and it suited us just fine. It was very relaxing and the pastel colors were comfortably soothing. I slept like nothing else. I love staying at smaller, more intimate hotels where they leave you alone but are there if you need anything. And the weather was great – not too hot, with a slight breeze and endless sun. We relaxed and enjoyed the beach, then slunk around all afternoon to lots of different shops full of nick-nacks and what nots.

I love that Cannes still has a Hollywoodish feeling even when the Cannes Film Festival isn’t in full swing. The theater where the festival takes place still seems to take center stage in town, albeit in a more subtle way. And even though it’s quiet on the festival grounds I can still walk around and imagine all the pomp and the glam parties with the stars air-kissing each other in all their finery. What a place – I know we’ll be back, or who knows, maybe live there at some point – what a dream that would be…
