I've posted a little bit before about my friend C who was also my husband's first wife.
About two years ago (I think it was two years anyway, I lost track!) she and her husband found out in rather dramatic circumstances that they weren't able to have children. It was a really big blow for them; they had just reached the point in their relationship where they were talking about babies and starting to badly want a family.
So without hesitation they started the process of adopting a little girl from Viet Nam. They put everything else on hold and started scraping and saving for the adoption fees and travel expenses. I have been right by her side through all the stress, all the setbacks (not too long ago the U.S. closed its doors to adoption in Viet Nam and we were all afraid that Canada would follow). She has literally closets full of baby clothes and toys - they are READY for this baby.
I've watched as they rose up from 20-somethingth on the waiting list, to 3rd, where they stayed for months on end. To 2nd, and suddenly to 1st in line. And today she got the big news.
There is a little two-month-old baby girl in Viet Nam who needs a mommy and daddy to love her :D
(geez, now I'm crying :p )
They will leave to go get her in two months. They'll spend several weeks in Viet Nam, so that the baby can adjust to her new parents in a familiar setting, and then they will bring her home to stay. So...my friend is finally a mother, and in just under 3 months I will have a precious baby girl to fawn over!
Makes me glad I'm applying for a part-time job instead of a full-time one. She gets a year of maternity leave and I want to spend as much time with them as I can during that year!
