One of the problems that beset our country, Philippines, today is Poverty. Poverty and hunger are marked with shame. True enough, a poor man is often ashamed and feels humiliated. Government and even international organizations tend to help and initiate projects aimed at providing food for the starving people. From time to time they send some rice or corn here and there.

The real problem is that hunger is connected with terrible living conditions, lack of basic education. aggression, lack of family ties and even unproductive. What we see on TV-masses of people receiving help in a remote areas-does not show the real problem.

We cannot deny the fact that our country is in the state of poverty by just looking at our environment, there is a rice shortage and so some people tend to steal and even kill people just to save their families from starvation.

With a little bit of goodwill and with today's technology, hunger can be limited. But how can we alleviate poverty? What did the government do?

Ask it yourself........

what can a government do to alleviate poverty?
it takes mindset changes- it starts with having jobs- and education.
you're right, that we can probably solve the problem of starvation by giving food, but unless we look to solve the root cause of the issue(i.e., poverty) we'll be feeding people forever rather than teachting them to feed themselves.

It is sad that there is such starvation in this world.  there is no need for it in my eyes.  I see so much food wasted here in this country, it is a shame, a real shame!  As far as poverty, I think education would help - knowledge is a key to opening many doors.

secretlife and quietone.......its true that education is the basic training ground for individuals to uplift their lifestyle. And then looking for jobs to support for their basic needs.. teaching them to feed for themselves rather than feeding them all through out....

    thanks for the comment.....

That dam Amelda Marcos. I remember her and her theiving hubby from when I was a kid. She had the most unbeleivable collection of shoes and had the most expensive taste. She often visited our country to shop on 5th ave.(Where the rich and beautiful people shop and occassionaly live.) It was her,him and others that tore that country apart with their greed and selfishness. Along with here(NOTE: See Bush and Iraq war).
Housing grants cut in 1/2,money airmarked for children and healthcare averted to the war.

When will our world leaders wake up and do the right thing for the people?
