A talk show host is my hero. Yes, you're hearing me correctly.
When I was stuck in my unhappy first marriage, I flicked on the tv when my ex went off to work. The topic of the day was marriage. Are you happy in your marriage? Is it worth staying, or something to the effect. At the time, I had been so abused by my ex that I was wearing thin. I had been called every name under the sun (use your imagination on this one). I was terrified that sooner or later I'd be pinned up against the wall with my husband beating me. I had spent many sleepless nights lying next to a man who preferred keeping me up until 4 a.m., while he played on the computer. Many nights I stayed up just to appease him. Otherwise, there would be hell to pay.
Yes, my talk show host is my hero. I went on his website and took a quiz to find out if I was happy in my marriage. Sure, I hung in for a while, but as the days ticked by, I realized he was right.
It was time to fly.
Moving on, I did meet someone while I was separated from my ex. I was on the path to divorce, and somehow I found myself watching my favorite host again.
This time, he taught me that women deserve to be treated with respect.
As he went on about how to meet people, I was in the process of getting to know my now husband. He was right. We took our time exchanging emails, and finally came the invitation, the email: "Do you want to meet?"
It wasn't an affair. I met my now husband on the internet, and like my talk show host said, I had found someone who loved me, respected me. I'm sure many people would disagree with me on that one (that I was having an afair), but I really wasn't.
I met the love of my life while I was getting a divorce. My family accused me of cheating on my first husband. Then again, he had his profile back on the internet sooner than I could sign the separation papers.
My talk show host saved my life.
I could have been beaten, murdered.
But again, I was not having an affair. Technically, I was, but for good reason. I had found everything I wanted. And apparently my ex had as well.
So thanks to my talk show host for saving my life. And don't dismiss him as being another talk show host who is full of hot air.
