Who's reading Miccah (5):
Do you travel the road of destiny or fate? I often wondered that myself.  I read this book called "The Alchemist"  don't remember the author, but it was a book recommended in a psychology class.   What's the difference and if there is one, which is the wiser choice, why?  Later, Miccah

Miccah.......the author of "The Alchemist" is Paulo Coelho.
    I loved that book.

Reactions to past thoughts and actions become our fate, destiny and karma. An individual's fate is simply the rebounding effects of previous choices remembered by its soul. The reason the effects of these previous choices often seem unfair to the conscious mind is because the personality doesn't see beyond its own life for sources of current conditions.

The law of karma is not some fierce god in the sky keeping track of everything so that it can zap people when they least expect it. Most karmic reactions in fact come from the individual's own deep memory of what it has done.

Once you make your decision, you have set a direction that can be almost totally predicted. In this way your fate is decided; but it was your free decision that cast it in the first place.

I like to use the term "coincidence"....it seems less imposing....there is a book of Milan Kundera 'The unbearable lightness of the being" that is all about coincidences and how we react to them.... I have read it so many times....

    Nice post...:-)

I forgot to talk about the difference between the terms......

Very shortly....lets say that karma is what happens due to a action a person takes during his life and that comes back to influence them in a way or another one..
Destiny is considered what happens during ones lifetime that is predetermined.

So, if you really want to find a difference, fate is where your life and actions will eventually lead you.

But......its you that makes your life.

Ginger ~ well said.  To add my own two cents worth here.  I adored that book, in fact I've read all of Paulo Coehlo's work.

In my HO we are in control of our own fate, it is our choice although there is a fine line between the fate that is waiting for you and the one you create.  In essence certain experiences must be had weather today, tomorrow or last night, your choices change the timing (coincedence) of these little fates/experiences.

For me Karma is like my whole beings memory, every smell, photograph (minds eye), taste, touch, everything our hearts song, sorrow is all remembered by Karma.  Ever wonder why De Ja Veu happens in the oddest of times? I call this karma remembering, like a sign, omen or kick up the butt!

    I like this post alot. *-}

i think that the difference in the words is subtle, yet massive.

to me, destiny implies a thing of which a person takes ownership, reaching towards something, whereas fate to me implies a thing a person seeks to avoid.

therefore, i don't think either is necessarily wiser than the other: i think that knowing which one is most important in a given moment is dependent upon the situation, myself.

I am a simple person, still, in that there is so much I do not understand.  I agree with all of you, in some aspect, and some of your thoughts are ones I will be pondering.  But in my novice perception of fate and destiny, my take is similar to silver's.   Destiny is in our own hand implying, perhaps, an active participation to orchestrate, or navigate its outcome, while fate is what happens to us when we let go, adrift, almost, a resignation to it's outcome.  Me personally, I once was a woman careening toward fate and today I am a woman destined for much more.

To Lucy, I'd love to know what other books this guy has written, I am intrigued.  Thanks so much, I had no idea how much I had no idea about.

To Ginger, Wow, ditto, to Lucy's comments.  You all have obviously a much larger lead on this subject than I, thank you for so much insight.  And at the risk of being awkward, what is a "HO"?  Thank you so much, God Bless, Miccah
