    LOL!!!

Oh man that's good...  Thanks for posting this.

When my cat was sick, I ground up her pills and put it in her wet food.  Pill #1, I sprinkled on top, and she just ate around it.  Pill #2, I mixed in with her wet food, but she didn't eat it.  :)

lol!  I've seen it before but it was SO worth reading again.  VERY true.

I've heard the difference between cats and dogs described this way (think it was in a newspaper comic):

Dog: The human feeds me, loves me, and cares for my every need.  The human must be a god!
Cat: The human feeds me, loves me, and cares for my every need.  I must be a god!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 03, 2008....
grape - cats are the most obstinate creatures next to women.  I was lucky to have never had a scuffle with my cat more serious than over her taking a bath.  I think she might have won the fight about not taking pills with me.

nytquill - LOL that's probably true.  I think one of the things I admire most about cats is their superior attitude, for reasons I really can't explain.  Must be the cat using it's telepathy on me. :)
  • CayenneMan said on Sep 03, 2008....
Wow that just goes to show how much I know about cat maintenance. I always thought it was better to just give the cat a soapy sudsy sponge bath. After 5 minutes under the blow drier they were good to go.  Geez I guess like I recently heard live and learn.
  • beyondtheveil said on Sep 03, 2008....
unique- My friends have told me of entering into mortal combat while trying to medicate a cat.

If your dog gives trouble, which is unlikely, a dab of peanut on the pill and its gone in a flash.

    I love dogs.
  • GrapeKoolaid said on Sep 03, 2008....
I was also told that "Dogs have masters, and cats have staff".  :D
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 03, 2008....

CM - one would think they would enjoy the warm water and suds, but those ingrates just have one thing in mind when they come in contact with water.  Blood letting.

BTV - Dogs are so selfless and devoted.  It makes you wonder considering how unworthy most humans are to have them.  Cats make you earn their mild distain. ;)

Grape - true.  I think being a little masochistic goes a long way if you want to have a cat.

  • secretlife said on Sep 03, 2008....
    LOL!  oh how true!

i had a kitten when i was a teenager (only for a few weeks, my mom wouldn't have it) but i remember it had allergies.....it was always sneezing and wheezing....

so my dad got childrens allergy medicine and cut the pill in quarters and told me to give it to the kitten...

i finally figured out that if i put chocolate milk on a spoon with the quarter pill, the cat would take it.  go figure!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 03, 2008....
SL - cats insist on making us bribe them.  Even if the pills are for their own good.  I'm a little surprised the chocolate milk trick worked.
  • quietone said on Sep 03, 2008....
LOL, yup thats a cat for ya!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 03, 2008....
quietone - you have to give them begruding respect for having such focus in refusing the pill.
  • Battycat said on Sep 03, 2008....
I love it, I've got two cats who are a nightmare to give tablets to.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 03, 2008....
Batty - I think they're in good company.  It makes you wonder why vets haven't invented an easier method of giving cats medicine by now.  We can put a man on the moon, but we can't make medicine easier for cats.  Go figure.
  • evil_twin said on Sep 03, 2008....
This was hilarious and so true! Cat's are not the easiest creatures to take care of sometimes. I've had fairly good luck giving pills though. Minimal bloodshed! But I can just imagine my cat Misty pooping on me if I tried to do that.....let's hope she doesn't get sick any time soon!

ET - you'll have to share your secrets of success with us.  I'm personally in favor of taking my cats to the vet daily if neccesary to get them medicated.  Good thing Misty is healthy, huh?

UI....vets DO have a better way. *laughing* they sedate them first and give it in a shot.

  • gingersoul said on Sep 03, 2008....
Unique....dogs are such simple souls....so easy to trick...just show them food and they will open the mouth to anything......lol..

But cats........one can only surrender to their nature..no way to force a cat to do anything they dont want to do......not even for their own good....lol..

Hey, a couple of shot with a cat is not a bad way to spend the evening anyway...
    Pass me the bottle.
    You keep medicating the cat.......:-D

  • travelr712 said on Sep 03, 2008....

LOL..  I very seldom laugh out loud when I'm reading something, but number 9 really got me going.   Thanks for the early morning laugh.  This reminds me of the episode of Will & Grace where Jack tried to give Karen a pill... they do this whole routine where she acts like a cat (and he treats her like one).  It's hilarious... and of course, Jack is inspired to study nursing after that.  I'll see if I can find it on youtube.  If I can, I'll post a link.  Personally, anytime I had the option of giving my cats an injection instead of a pill, I did it.  It was so much easier.
  • kruuyai said on Sep 03, 2008....

    Found it!
  • Hegemone said on Sep 03, 2008....
This is just too funny and familiar.  With one of my cats we had to resort to my husband holding his whole body so that he could not move, although the little sucker still moved quite well, all while I held his head with one hand and pried his mouth open with the other and with that same hand shoved the pill down his mouth, clamped it shut, blew on his face and rubbed his throat.  Then for about an hour after that he would disappear.  My other cat...she's got allergies and we have to give her childrens liquid benedryl.  I stupidly thought that perhaps putting liquid in would be easier...I found out my gag reflexes respond to having .5 cc of liquid spewed back out at me at high speeds.  It doesn't help that this cat weighs all of 5 pounds, maybe and is quite flexible.  We basically have to tightly wrap her in a towel so only her head is poking out, pry mouth open, stick dropper all the way to back of mouth and squirt.  At which point she comes flying up out of the towel and streaks frantically from one side of the room to the other and from floor to ceiling...all while drooling and being all dramatic about it.  The dog might take it with bacon...but the cats make it a hell of a lot more entertaining in hindsight.
  • badasianmom said on Sep 03, 2008....
LOL, I used to have three cats. One of them absolutely hated vets, and would growl at the vet every time, before the vet would even do anything. That same cat, called Wiley, would also walk on a leash. I had another cat that I had to give medicine to, and he hated it, too. This cat was a cute orange furball that would run into glass patio doors to try to catch a bird. It was hilarious.

Thank you so much for the post. My cat fell ill since 3 months and it is becoming a big problem for us to make her to swallow the pills, we have tried in different ways and it did not worked. I'll try this method and i'm sure that it will work. ___________________________________________________

    Here is another method:

Crush the pill into a very fine powder mix it with a few drops of salad oil. Smear the mixture with your finger on the cat's flank. Being the fastidious creature that it is, it will lick the whole mess off its fur. Be sure to check with your vet first. Some pills are intended to digested slowly, and the crushing method would give your cat a too concentrated dose too quickly.

    This was an entertaining post.

Should have been titled " How to pop a pill into the pussy"

  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 04, 2008....

Fallyn - my ex-cat's vet always dreaded her visits.  The assistants were always trying to get me to help hold her down, but I wasn't having any of that.

ginger - I'm surprised they didn't put a little nip in the cat water to prep the cat.

trav - great minds ....... (see above)

Lucy - wish I could take credit for more than just passing it along

kruu - it really is.  It also makes me wonder why they don't make more meds in those melt on your tongue strips for cats.

Hegemone - yes, if you count the entertainment factor it kind of makes sense.  In fact, it should be one of those adrenaline rush sports for thrill seekers.

BAM - I had a marmalade once too!  She would only sit on your lap if you promised not to do any cuddling other than petting.  She hated being cradled.

Julie - I'm familiar with the lick off method.  Hope this gave you at least a giggle.

scipio - I'm gonna check with you in the future for titles.  That's funny!

Once again I'm confused.  How does tossing the dog in the air help getting him to take a pill?
  • kruuyai said on Sep 04, 2008....
botoni:  You missed the point, hon.  First, you have to wrap the dog in bacon.  THEN, you toss him in the air!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 04, 2008....
RC - you're welcome.  I'd own a couple myself if I were in a position to do so.  I do miss the hand to hand combat with my ex-cat.  She still lets me pick her up when I see her at the kid's dad's house.

bot - you rascal!  Didn't you know the medicine goes down better in the air?
