I've noticed a certain pattern between reasonable liberals and disgruntled conservatives. Instead of just stating they like Obama because he is a smart charismatic guy who speaks well, they try to diminish Republicans as justification for voting for Obama.
The excuses are the same. Civil liberties, the economy, our image around the world. I think people should be honest with themselves. If you are a Republican voting for Obama you should just say that you are willing to take the gamble. Perhaps Obama being inexperienced and young is a good thing, a sort of new blood kind of vibe. I can understand this and it is not that unrealistic.
Instead of being honest many come up with the excuses, which are illogical. If you are going to state Republicans under President Bush have hurt civil liberties then you have to include the whole of government. Every supposed civil liberty infraction, from the NSA thing to the Gitmo the Democrats were right there, involved and aware. The economy under President Bush has shown unprecedented growth and employment even after the pitfalls of natural disasters and terrorism.
Personally I don't give a crap about our image around the world. Simply because it doesn't matter. People are going to hate us no matter what and there will always be propaganda machines spreading lies. With that said lets actually look at our image. President Bush liberated 50 million people, tore down a large part of Al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations, ridded the world of a murderous dictator and his psycho sons, and managed to unite certain sections of Arabs against radical Islam.
Now lets see, did President Bill Clinton hurt our help our image abroad? He turned around and ran in the other direction in Somalia, refused to take out Osama bin Laden, was President during the Waco atrocities (ya wanna talk civil liberties), got caught in a BJ scandal in the White House and was impeached for lieing about it. Do Democrats really want to go down the image road?
