Crisis averted! Or at least I hope so!
I think that McCain will win in November, now that he has chosen Sarah Palin as his VP running mate.......yeah it was a political maneuver....everyone knows that.

I am interested in hearing what the women have to say about this......A woman a heartbeat away from the Presidency!  A weak heartbeat!

Will she draw many of the Hillary supporters from Obama?

Will she get the N.O.W. support? Shouldn't she?

In my opinion it is time for the womans movement to shit or get off the pot!

If you read the women's comments over at Republicans for Obama, then you know that the reaction is highly negative.

    In some cases, vehemently so.

See especially this post and the accompanying graph.

Of course it's still early. While I think there are things worthy of criticism I'm not gonna write her off as a light weight until the debates. I've seen enough commentary about her that says she's more than she appears at first glance.

Personally, while I think it was a mistake on McCain's part, I kinda hope I'm wrong, and that even though I don't think McCain will win, maybe Palin will be set up favorably for national office in the future.

Will she draw many of the Hillary supporters from Obama?

Will she get the N.O.W. support? Shouldn't she?

You're kidding, right? Most Hillary supporters see this as a political ploy, and most NOW supporters are very liberal and doubly so when it comes to the abortion issue. If McCain picking Palin helps him any at all, it will be amongst conservative evangelicals and maybe among some moderate-to-conservative women.

It will do nothing for either liberal women nor for moderate-to-liberal women. And as I posted above, even many moderate-to-conservative women will be less than impressed.

I think that the Republicans for Obama site is a joke.......I would love to see the funding stream for that one!

fact of the matter is...most of Americans are basically conservative....this will play well with them.....they are silent, but vote.....that is where the groundswell of female support will come from.

The comments about the womens movement were designed to bring out your response.....I know who they are.....they are communists....they supported Clinton despite his womanizing ways.....they are so transparently corrupt, I don't see how any woman with a grain of integrity would want to associate themselves with that organization.

I think you are wrong tin....they will win big.

On a side note.....I think this is Hillary's biggest nightmare right now.....now she has to actually really try to help Obama get elected! instead of undermining him!
  • SeanRenaud said on Sep 01, 2008....
American's are only basically conservative if you compare us globally where.  If Obama were to run for office in England or France he'd be right wing (and rather extreme right at that) Bush and Pelin. . .they'd just be laughed at.

On abortion American's are roughly evenly split and lean towards pro-choice and Pelin wanting to teach Creationism is like an albatross (it's fortunate for the right that neither her nor Biden really matter) because there are democrats who are pro-life.  There are virtually known who are pro-creationism or ID.  what's more is it's viewed as a political ploy rather than a legit move.  Early assessment show this being bad for McCain, most of the polls have him losing as well.

Personally I think we need another week.  I'd be shocked if McCain won but I was shocked when he beat Kerry as well (I called his name brand recognition carrying him the first time and was acutally shocked Gore put up so much of a fight that we got the controversy we did)  Should have been a landslide.

I can only hope your viewpoints are correct. If Obahma gets in there we're up the creek ! Unfortunately Michael Savage does'nt see it your way. I'm hoping he is completely wrong.  Recently I returned from a trip to South Carolina. I was getting plenty of thumbs up by passing motorists.  I pulled over to find out what was up.
There it was  . . .somebody had put an Obahma bumper sticker on the back bumper of my r/v while I was parked at a truck stop. I did'nt waste any time trying to peel it off I just took out a can of black spray paint and sprayed over it. Unfortunately I had been driving for miles before finding this out.

She is a joke and so is his nomination of her. I might have given him  an honest look had Romney or some sensible person of respect been his pick but I don't like when people play on my intelligence. I hate being taken for a fool. His pick of her still tells me he's out of touch with me the average Joe working stiff. It's like he took a Soccer Mom off the street and picked her to be his running mate.

She has TOO much to LOSE. Vice Presidency IS IMPORTANT in this particular election for 2 reasons.
#1 Obama even with his mixed race background is still considered the 1st Black President which will bring the nuts in FULL FORCE(especially the racist ones which is why Powell will never run while his wife is alive.). Which means Bidden could Possibly see Presidential time.

#2 McCain is in his 70's and has had previous medical problems. Should he bow to a medical illness, old age,or anything like that this woman with 5 kids(one infant with special needs) id going to find time to manage a household of such and manage Billions of Americans? Give me a break. My middle son has adhd,I have 3 kids and 2 full time jobs and I feel like I'm losing it. As a working MOTHER there are times that it comes down to Job or family. Someones going to lose and as much as I wouldn't want it to be her children I don't think it should be me,or mines or any of you and yours either.
Besides I want a leader who could command respect from world leaders. Not be told to cover their head or change into a BURRKA before discussing world events and policies. Will  we be ready for a Woman President? In 4-8yrs perhaps but not in the current climate. That is part of Why Hill LOST! They should have also paid attention to that FACT!

At least Chelse is grown. Which means you don't stop worrying but her Mom could focus on other things. Your asking a "woman" with 5 kids 1 in Iraq,2teenagers and 2 small,1of which is a special needs infant to manage all of that, husband and country? As sexist as this may sound but as truthful  as it is. The role of a father is different from a mother, even in todays' woman's lib society. That is how JFK could run around and have 2 small kids in the Whitehouse. Jackie did the child rearing which left him free to do his job and help when he could. Now children need their dads but there is nothing like needing MOMMY.

Besides she is too conservative. She wants to take away the right to choose and I'm not confortable with the government lording over my or anyother person's body. Like Nelson from the Simpsons says:"HAHA" That's what I say to this.

I've already seen a lot of smears against Palin, and I think it's really sad.

It was already rumored that Palin's fifth child was actually her daughter's when that was patently untrue.

And now people want to make hay about her daughter being pregnant. How many of us think that that is really that unusual, even though teen pregnancies are down in the US?

But whatever. Other people can focus on the negative. I'm not gonna do it.
  • dailyachesandpains said on Sep 01, 2008....
Tin:  I don't think it's unusual at all.  However, asking for privacy???  Ummm...yeah, I find that unusual.  McCain knew her daughter was pregnant and I just don't get a good feeling about his picking.  Picking a woman...history, picking a woman with a pregnant teen daughter...appealing to many young voters because her teen daughter's pregnant and maybe appealing to anti-abortion/pro-lifers.  However, how will the old school elders feel about it?  Conflicted?

I saw that story about the fifth child actually being her daughter's child...that was sad and totally uncalled for.

I honest to goodness don't care for McCain or Obama at all.  I do have to vote though.  Or do I?  That's what I'm conflicted with right now.  Does my vote REALLY count?  I don't live in Florida, so I'm guessing it doesn't.  I don't understand much about politics and the Electoral College and I have been trying to learn and understand more in recent years.  Someone pointed me to the Wiki about the Electoral College and it may as well have been written in French.  I still don't get it and don't think I will ever understand it.

Now, I leave this post actually feeling sad about not having a TRUE understanding of politics and my history teacher was a jerk and taught us NOTHING (I'm really serious).  My Mother went in front of the school board along with other parents and he still remains a history and govt. teacher to this day.

N.O.W. will not be swayed by Pallin's gender because women are essentially in agreement that they do not want reproductive decisions to be in the hands of  government, whether it is run by men or women. Reproduction is personal, why doesn't the gov instead get involved in creating an economically and environmentally viable reality that encourages women to have children? Rather than police personal decisions, we should be involved in creating a society that people wish to populate! Back Asswards thinking to go after the symptom of a broken society (abortion) rather than addressing the deeper issues.

McCain amazes me...he gets away with straight faced lies and double talk, while Obama gets unbelievable scrutiny. Recently there was a study that showed how the politics of the red and blue divide is actually genetic. Since we are all hard-wired to polarize politically and, in many ways religiously, I am less surprised that there are people in the world that would re-elect W and elect McCain. Those that would allow W to shred the constitution, trash the military, abort the Geneva convention, make pre-emptive war and occupation an American standard etc...must be more invested in power than integrity. This explains why I moved to a remote island in the middle of the Pacific because that type of consciousness self-destructs with regularity!

The GOP was saved by this hurricane...they could not have come close to the type of support and love that Dems, Independents and Republicans showed Obama! Funny enough though, there was an evangelical leader that openly asked Christians to pray for rain to spoil the Dem convention. Now, this so-called 'man of god' gets to find out what kind of voodoo he was really involved with as two major hurricanes pre-empt the Grand Ole Party. What a stupid pig! Is that what Christianity has come to in the US? These people are not only stupid and fat...they are godless!
  • andora said on Sep 01, 2008....
yes, I know there are Christians that are not stupid pigs - or even fat, but they have stood by while the ones that are pigs call themselves compassionate conservatives and instead show themselves to be wolves in sheep's clothing. Like Pat Robertson calling openly for political assassinations as he prays like a pious loving minister of Christ's gospel. If I were a Christian, I would make some effort to call bullshit on types like this, rather than roll over and let war mongers associate themselves with Christ.

Those that think W was a uniter instead of a divider or a compassionate conservative, are simply insane or trying to hide behind an image of Christ that has nothing to do with their true agenda: power. Christ may have spoken truth to power, however, he did not advocate using power as a means of implementing His gospel. Christians who support the republican ticket simply because they are against abortion have allowed the scum that would use their sentiments for life's sacred tenants to implement torture, cronnyism, dishonesty, secrecy, slavery and international intimidation in the name of Jesus Christ!?!. To deny this shows that this type of person has no conscience...or, in other words, is a socio-path!

D6:  I think I was misunderstood with regard to her daughter being pregnant.  I'm sure she was pissed.  My Mother was pissed when my sister was 21 and had a baby and single. I just thought it a little odd that McCain knew her daughter was pregnant and chose her.  Almost like "See...Told you so" when it comes to being pro life.  The fact that he picked a female almost seemed like "Got 'cha Obama!"   I'm not digging either of these candidates.  I just don't like the jabs going back and forth at each other.  As far as I've seen (remember, WHAT I have seen) McCain's done a bit more of it.  How can she even think of asking for privacy when on the ticket?  That is something I do not, and will not, ever understand.

Speaking of cops getting into trouble (I know you were referring to their youth)...one of my old friends was a detective and is no longer (as of a month ago) because of embezzlement charges brought against him by a bookie!!!  The bookie reported it!  Funny, sad, but true!  The bookie went to the station to press charges and they didn't arrest him at all. Agree with you there D6, although, he was never in trouble growing up, but became to be!  I don't feel bad for him, he made his bed...

Again your welcome Daily.  Never be afraid to admit you don't know something or ask for an explanation on things you don't understand.  IF it's something that I can explain I will, if not I'll see if I can direct you to someone who can .

D6 I highly suspect 2 (conflicting) theories on cops and preachers and their children.  The first is that it is a highly exaggerated that they are always in trouble and probably are in trouble no more often than anybody else it's just that you expect them to be perfect and so everytime it happens we hear about it on the news.  Just like there are thousands of women who shouldn't be parents but we hear more about Britney Spears in six months than pretty much all other bad motehrs combined (save the murderers)

The other is that Preachers and cops probably make really strict parents and the children rebell against them so when they get out of control it's probably worse.  I admit I only knew one of each.  (One preachers daughter and one cops's son.)  The daughter was pretty well behaved exactly what her dad wanted.  The boy was a drug dealer.
  • dailyachesandpains said on Sep 01, 2008....
D6:  I see, sorry about that.  DUH! on my part.
I knew a few kids I went to school with that were children of policemen.  They weren't much different from the rest of us.  One of the girls I was friends with, we couldn't call her during the day.  Her dad was on the night shift, and that's why.  I know of no preachers or preachers children around where I grew up.  I actually didn't know anyone that wasn't Catholic.  I just realized that as I was typing this.

When my Grandmother passed away, she had a picture of John and Jackie Kennedy in a frame.  Black and white, not an actual photo, but reproduced.  Inside that frame, she had kept an invitation to the Inagural Ball for JFK that was sent to her with a stamp on it and everything.  Is that much of anything?  I'd never sell it, but I was just curious if it's junk or something I should take out insurance on or put in a safety deposit box.  She did leave it to me...but she also wore costume jewelry.

The reason she should think twice about the office to which she aspires has only to do with the fact that she's made her choice already by cranking out the crotchfruit.  Particularly the "special needs" one.  If she was really thinking about what's best for her kids, she'd be home with them.  If she wanted a political career, perhaps she should have considered using birth control so she could focus instead on the business of government.  But then, condoms make the baby jesus cry.

D if she is claiming Soccer Mom status then she is saying that she rears her own children. And by running she is saying without words that the husband(Who just quit his job with Big Oil) is going to be switching roles. It is not about being selective. As I told you before her family is not the usual nuclear family. Her family comes with unique challenges that add as Distraction to her working. Andora Woman and others are telling you and others from experience that with or without help it is hard.

Listen as we tell you nannies or no nannies this is not ideal for our current world situation. Her oldest son is in Iraq. Suppose Binny and his Alqueda boys decide to make him a target and in some way shape or form was able to get a hold of him or McCain's son? Lets just use her son. Tell me as a mother she's going to tell them that our country doesn't deal with terrorists? Tell me that she'd be able to turn her back on her son(In light of our policies)? I think McCain would do it before she would.

Personally she is more conservative than him in her views which boarders upon scary. I don't think that everyone is meant to be a parent. And I don't think that if you are raped weither it be stranger or relative that you should have to carry the child if you don't want to. It may lead to a mental breakdown. This woman thinks that you should. Could you honestly see her picking a supreme court judge in the next couple of years? I can,one who will help to over turn Roe vs Wade then where will that leave our elustrious "ENLIGHTENED" society?

Can she do it? In a couple of years just not now. We need a man for the job as we  are dealing with those that have little to no respect for women. In some way shape or form she will have to deal with these people. And them snickering or disrespecting her just isn't up to game plan. I always say that this is a ploy and as soon as McCain gets elected she will suddenly want or need time with the children and his real pick will step into view. Then we will really see our rights trampled on.

  • D6fer said on Sep 10, 2008....
it is commonly assumed that rape victims who become pregnant would naturally want abortions. But in the only major study of pregnant rape victims ever done, Dr. Sandra Mahkorn found that 75 to 85 percent chose against abortion.1 This evidence alone should cause people to pause and reflect on the presumption that abortion is wanted or even best for sexual assault victims.

Several reasons are given for not aborting. First, approximately 70 percent of all women believe abortion is immoral, even though many also feel it should be a legal choice for others. Approximately the same percentage of pregnant rape victims believe abortion would be just another act of violence perpetrated against their bodies and their children. Source
