hi guys! i haven't posted much of anything at all this week, largely due to the fact that i've been sleeping more and when i haven't, i've had a hard time with my network connection in the mornings. i hope you guys are all doing well.

so my wife sent me an imdb link about the newest TV project by buffy, angel & firefly creator joss whedon: dollhouse.

what's interesting to me is that 1: it's joss whedon doing TV again, and 2: 2 of the cast are eliza dushku, a buffy alum, and amy acker, an angel alum.

what's depressing to me is that apparently the show was picked up by fox, the network whose utter incompetence ended firefly before it had a chance. one would think that joss would know better by now.

it's joss, so i know the characters will be good & the dialogue will sparkle.

but it's fox so now i have to prepare myself not to fall in love with this show because those morons at fox will likely run the episodes out of sequence, change its time slot at least twice every 2-3 episodes in a seemingly deliberate effort to deny this show any traction or ability to draw repeat viewers--if history's any guide to such things.

gee...you don't think i'm...bitter about this, do you?

:D

I think after Firefly, we have every right to be bitter. ;)

Poor Joss, though.  He's so good...so how is it he still doesn't have enough clout to get on another network that WON'T treat his work like crap?  It's like he's going with Fox because that's all he can get or something ><

I read an article about this awhile ago, back when it was just in the planning stages. Apparently Joss was very reluctant to establish any sort of contract with Fox again. But they assured him that he had their full support this time and would give the show a fair chance. Who knows though. I certainly wouldn't trust them myself!

But I guess the Fox exec's were really excited about this show and were dying to give it life. I read the premise back then and it confused me, so I have no idea what the show will be like. I will watch it because I watch anything Joss Whedon does, but I won't get too attached, like you said. In fact, in general I try not to get too attached to new shows because the ones I like never make it!

Ed- What Fox did to him, its like selling out a friend and then going back and asking for help. I think ET must be right, they convinced him somehow.

I'll definitely pick up on the show, just like I have on his others. He's, well... addicting, you know? I'll inform my daughter about this. She squeals when she hears his name.

fox is so inept! i started watching firefly from the pilot, and after the 3rd episode, they changed the day and time and didn't announce when the new time was! i never saw it again until the movie came out, and then i found the collector's set.

what ever happend to joss trying to make a second movie? he seemed pretty attached to the project.

I've seen Buffy and Angel, but I've never seen Firefly.  I'll have to watch for the new show.

nyt: heh...OK, i can get behind being entitled to bitterness. :D i imagine that, since joss is the producer, he's gonna go with fox b/c their offer is substantially more attractive than anything else on the table, sadly. he does have a fiduciary responsibility, i suppose--but still!

kyle: i read the premise and you know, i'm not sure i get it, either so i guess we'll have to watch to find out, huh? i swear, while i think i understand, that doesn't mean i have to like it, i say! i guess i'm glad that amy acker & eliza dushku are working with joss again. funny thing, joss has a few actors who've appeared in all 3 of his previous shows, his "hat tricks". what's he gonna call it if he gets one of 'em onto dollhouse? four of a kind? :>

beyond: i completely agree with your analogy! and yeah, i'll definitely watch it, too--joss shows tend to reward repeated viewing more than other shows, you know? :>

trav: seriously, it was a serious case of ineptitude! i don't know what happened to a second film--my guess is that joss isn't satisfied with the script he's got. i wish we got to know the history with shepherd book, you know? my theory: he's a former operative himself.

CW: that's too bad about firefly, but then again, fox didn't make it easy when they were airing it! if you participate in netflix or blockbuster's programs, i recommend adding it to your list sometime. :>

i've started seeing ads for dollhouse, and while the show looks good and i know i'll watch at least the premiere, i'm worried about when fox will schedule it.
