“What would be the perfect age of a man for you?” Lolita asked me.

“32,” I answered without a moment’s hesitation.

“Why?”

“I don’t know.  Maybe because that’s the age that I still see myself as.  It’s weird, because I was dating 32 year olds when I was 18, and now that I’m 48, I’m still attracting a lot of 32 year olds into my life.  The number 32 must have some special significance for me.  But I can’t imagine what.”

“Why don’t you ask Lorenzo?”  Lolita had suggested that I consult with Lorenzo on so many different topics including dream interpretations, childhood fears, and whatnot, that I had scheduled an extra appointment with him just to get some answers.  So, I added the number 32 to my list.

When I saw Lorenzo, I asked him,

“Does the number 32 have some special significance in my life?”

“Yes,” he responded immediately.  “But before I tell you what it is, why do you ask?”

I told him about the conversation that Lolita and I had had.

“What comes after 32?” Lorenzo asked me.

“Ummm… 33?”

“A!  And what is the significance of 33?”

“Beats me.”

“33 is the age at which Jesus died.”

“Oh?  So, what’s the significance of the age of death of this mythological man?”

Lorenzo looked at me as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

“But Jesus was a real man of flesh and blood.”  I got the feeling that it wasn’t important to Lorenzo whether or not I believed that Jesus was the son of God, but…

“See, I don’t believe that.”

That really blew his mind.

“Why don’t you believe that?  There’s evidence…”

“There’s no evidence…”

And a short discussion ensued in which we agreed to disagree.

“At any rate,” Lorenzo continued, “33 is generally considered to be the age of spiritual maturity.  Jesus worked on himself spiritually for 32 years, and then he started to teach others what he had learned…”

“So, if 33 is the age of spiritual maturity, and I’m attracted to 32 year old guys, that means that I’m attracted to guys who are on their way to becoming spiritually realized, but have not yet arrived?”

“A!”

“And if I see myself as a 32 year old, that means that I am also spiritually immature?”

“A!”

Mystery solved.  Except that most of the really spiritually evolved people that I know are still in their 20’s, but there I go taking everything literally again.  Just goes to show how spiritually immature I am.

So, how about you?  What age is your perfect mate?

    I'm 32.  [waggles eyebrows]

    Sorry.  Couldn't resist.

I feel like it's been a while since I commented on your post.  My apologies.  I'll have you know I always make it a point to read your posts, though.  I'm glad to see that you've had an interesting summer(to say the least) and doubly glad for sharing with us.

As to your question, I don't know if I have an age.  It's not how old you are, but how old you feel, you know?  I've been accused of having the maturity level of an 8 year old(and that's being generous).  I still giggle at poop jokes, you know?  :D

A woman who still has room for laughter in her heart, the one who appreciates joy in the little things, has the ability to savor the moments...  She's the perfect age for me.  I hope you find this answer satisfactory.

    See you around.  ;)

Don't think I have a perfect age.  But then I am not out to meet anyone since I already scored a wonderful guy.  It's been three years and we haven't killed each other yet! ;)

But when I was still single I never really imagined the perfect age.  The closest I can get is to say I've always preferred men older than me by at least a year or two (my husband is 7 years older).  I can't say I ever went out looking for a mate among strangers - I was usually pulling from the pool of guys I already knew through other activities, so it was more about "I hope he likes me" then "I hope I meet somebody tall, dark, handsome, and 26."

So I find it interesting that you have a perfect age/significant number to begin with!  I also find it odd that someone into tarot and such would also be using Jesus as a reference.  To believe that Jesus' age has significance you have to believe that Jesus himself has significance, not just historically but universally.  I would've thought someone open-minded enough to give tarot readings would be past refering so rigidly to any particular religious figure?  But I suppose that's a bit prejudiced of me, too.  That's just not something I would've expected to hear!

    Coincidence?  I think not!

Hey, Grape, you still laugh at poop jokes?  I still tell poop jokes.  If you don't believe me, take a look at some of my comments on hotaka's Origin of the Feces, or my own Toilets Around the World post... lol

nytquill:  Yeah, I guess having the age of a perfect mate in mind would be for us life-long bachelor and bachelorette types.  :)  About the Jesus reference, I believe that Lorenzo regards all the prophets of all the religions as different manifestations of the same energies.  He doesn't limit himself to Christianity.  He probably started there because he assumed I was a Christian.  I think he backed himself up with statements about the significance of that age with other religious/spiritual figures as well.  I just don't remember the details (it was almost two months ago).

If you would have asked me this question 5 years ago I might have guess that 35 was a good age for a soulmate for me.  Now, with some real life experience (that's what they call but kicking these days) under my belt I would say that about 50 is a much more compatable age for me and the imaginary soulmate.

I've come to a place in my life where I appreciate a mature mind, a settled soul.  Most men under 50 don't seem to have both.  Perhaps I am destined to meet a true soulmate in the later half of my life.
  • kruuyai said on Aug 28, 2008....
uniquely:  I would agree with you that most young men don't have a mature mind and a settled soul, but I would add that a lot of old ones don't either.  I've been fortunate enough to have met some outstanding 28-32 year olds (males) and some outstanding 20-25 year olds (females).  Chronological age doesn't always seem to be directly proportional to emotional or spiritual age.  Of course, experience counts for a lot, and there's a lot to be said for diminished testosterone... hee hee

kruu- First, to the meeting with your seer. It kind of bothers me when a seer has to ask questions from the student to guide him into the answer he might make. I'd feel much better about his conclusion if he had not asked you "But before I tell you, why do you ask?" Am I wrong about that? If they require answers to questions before answering they are therapists.

To your question. I have always considered myself blessed to have married the perfect (as perfect as can be) mate. The age of my perfect mate is the age she is at the time. She was 26 when we were married, turned 52 yesterday, looks no older than 38 and I can't pick one year over the other.

Is 33 considered to be the age of spiritual maturity among Christians? That makes sense, but doesn't hold much water with anyone else, does it?

I don't think the mystery is solved. I think you are attracted to guys at or about 32 because they are old enough to have left immature ways, young enough to not have adapted old ways, but fit where you feel you are mentally, physically, and spiritually.

beyond:  That was the only time I can think of when Lorenzo asked me a leading question.  My only other moment of him watching for clues was mentioning the pain in my shoulder before I told him about it, but I had been clutching it at the meeting the night before. However, as Lorenzo explained in the medium class (more to come on that), what we are really tapping into is our own intuition.  There's nothing magical about it.  So, I guess he was just looking for a context.  With the shoulder thing, the leading part seemed less significant than the fact that he picked up on the "presence" of a Muslim man in my past when he had no reason to believe that there had been such a person.  But like I told Lolita, it doesn't matter all that much to me if he's tapping into the spirit world or just using his intuition, because the result is that I made more progress with understanding myself in those ten days than in over eight years of therapy.  You're right that therapists ask a lot of questions... and do little else.  Notice, however, that Lorenzo often contradicted me.  I'm not always sure how much of that was projecting his own opinions on me, but almost always, the things he said made perfect sense.  And as you'll see later, he was able to see into me in ways that most people can't.

Regarding the age of spiritual maturity... I don't know all that much about other religions, but I have read some comparisons, and I know that all world religions share an amazing number of similarities, and this may well be one of them.  As I mentioned to Nytquill, I think Lorenzo mentioned stuff about prophets from other religions, but I can't remember the details.

About your explanation for why I'm attracted to 32 year olds, I think that's basically how I interpreted what Lorenzo said.
  • beyondtheveil said on Aug 28, 2008....
kruu- I read your explanation again and I agree they are pretty darn close. I guess we were on the same wavelength.

I didn't know that was the only time he asked a leading question. It makes a lot of difference. My wife is impressed with John Edwards, but he asks so many questions I don't know what to believe about him.

I don't think it matters what he's tapping into either. If he works for you and doesn't question his way to the result, I'd stay with him. In fact, I wish I knew someone around here I could try like Lorenzo. My wife would go too. She has had 'events' that she doesn't understand and scare her.

    hmmmm, that's really interesting.

i was always attracted to guys who were younger than me.......what does that mean?

till i left my ex.....and then i never wanted to have anything to do with guys younger than me......but much older guys still scare me.

    hmmmm.

my lucky number is 4. for the lucky age number, i have none. i look at their soul with my soul. i'm an old soul too.*smile* so if i met someone who was older or younger than me, well so be it. but Mrs. Robinson had it going on! *smile*

well, that certainly is an 'interesting' interpretation. kind of a stretch tho, isn't it?

for me, it's not about age, it's about personality, how we interact, how we resolve problems. age doesn't enter into any of those things.
  • evil_twin said on Aug 28, 2008....
I don't think I've ever had a perfect age that I look for. Although I am almost always attracted to younger women. But not too much younger. Maybe because I'm a little immature at times and like someone who's more on my level? I don't know. Nat's 2 years younger than me, but I don't think her age ever would have been a real factor anyway. Mostly I always just looked for a woman who was compatible with me and at the same stage in her life, regardless of age.

hey there~ i don't think there is a perfect age. it's more of just finding someone that "gets me" and i "get him."
  • hotaka said on Aug 28, 2008....
Perfect age mate? I don't know. But my wife and previous girlfriend are both four years my junior.

As for JC, I believe he lived and taught just as I believe Mohamad and Bhudda (spelling?) lived and taught. But I also believe that must of Jesus's life has been omitted from the Bible for reasons of reigning control of power. It's interesting how Lorenzo described the significance of the number in your life.

I would like to ask Lorenzo about the number 23. I wrote a post a couple of months back about how that number constantly crops up in my day to day life (most days anyway). It's a random occurance. I don't count the times when it follows in a sequence that I have been paying attention to. Like if I am walking past rooms that go 21, 22, 23... I don't say, "Oh, look. 23 again!" Well, anyway. It was all in my post. Last month my friend asked me if I was aware of the name of my tent while we were in the mountains. I hadn't thought about it. It was North Face. Yes, North Face Talus 23. Well, whatever. 23 has been with me since long before it was with Jim Carey and I haven't even seen his movie yet.

beyond:  I would recommend that you suggest to your wife that she ask the universe to bring someone into her life to help her sort these things out.  The answers are out there, and you'd be amazed what the universe is willing to provide if only you are willing to ask.

Fallyn:  I have no idea what that means for you... of course.  :)  What do you think it means?  (Gosh, I would make a great therapist, wouldn't I?  All I need is those two questions in my repertoire.. what do you think it means? and How do you feel about that?  And time's up, that will be $100, please.  When would you like to schedule your next session of financial abuse... er, therapy?).

MM&I:  Hopefully, it doesn't mean you're looking for a 4-year-old!  lol   I agree that a meeting of the souls is definitely what makes for the strongest attractions... but.. that Mrs. Robinson... koo koo kachoo!

    Obama:  Oy!

trav:  Of course, of course, but do you find that "by coincidence" some particular age group seems to find its way into your life more than others?

e_t:  Yes, from the way you love Nat, I guess she could have been 20 or 30 years older than you, and it still wouldn't have made a difference.

silver:  Yes.  I didn't mean to imply that I actually shop around for a certain age group.  I don't.  But that is the age of the men who have come into my life (more than any other age) since I started dating 30 years ago.

hotaka:  I once knew a guy for whom the number 39 kept cropping up.  I mean constantly.  I was with him for a couple of weeks to witness it.  And he was almost like an idiot savant with numerology.  Once, he came to visit me from Ireland, went for a walk and got lost.  Eventually, he found his way back to my house.  He had forgotten to note the address (even though we'd written lots of letters).  I told him that he had written that number 3930 on an envelope so many times, and the streets were in numerical order, so he could have just looked for 39th street, and he would have found it.  Without a moment's hesitation, he said, "I should have known that on the 39th day before the end of my 39th year, I should have been looking for the number 39."

I have a  PM for you.

hmm, my first wife was 2 years younger. my second was a year older. i dated a woman 17 years older for nearly a year (i was 32, she was 49), destiny is 14 years younger than me (we're not 'together' anymore, just good friends). i had a short fling with a 19 year old girl when i was 31. there hasn't been any consistancy in age to the women i've been with.

silver:  Yeah, I guess it means I'm not quite there yet.  (I think another reason is that men my age are not interested in women my age, so I have to go younger or much, much older).

I think you told me about that guy before but not about him getting lost on the 39th day before the end of his 39th year while looking for an address with the number 39 in it. Yesterday 23 cropped up again twice. It's normal. Once was when a student of mine told me her favourite singer is 23 and another time a student said her train was at 8:23 which incidently was the release date of the Japanese translation of the last Harry Potter book - 8/23.

hotcakes:  Dude!  You are really starting to remind me of that Irish guy. .. who pays that much attention to numbers?  By the way, have you noticed that 23 is 32 backwards?

Fallyn:  lol... was I being a tad cynical?  :)

ed:   I quite agree.  Still, it was a fun thing to take a look at those numbers.
