I decided to leave work and take Dasha for an eye check-up today. I called and left a message for the office manager and told her that I could bring Dasha in for a check-up today. I told them I would be home by noon and they could leave a message on my home answering machine about what time to bring her in. Olia said the office called and said she has to come on Mon. so I guess all of the appointments were taken for today. Dasha's eye looks greta and she said that all of the colors looked right today. Yesterday everything looked pink to her! Dasha said her eye feels fine but she is moody today. Maybe she is still scared and overwhelmed about the surgery. The other family told me that she cried alot coming out from anesthesia. I guess there are still side effects the next day so I will try to be really patient with her attitude.
Olia got her cheerleading outfit yesterday and it is so cute! She looks adorable in it! It is black with a white band and white and orange print letters. I have to take her to a sporting goods shop today to get bloomers and a liner(whatever that is). I think the girls will be really cold in these outfits during the Fall. The cheerleading outfits are very lighweight. I am going to buy Olia under armor for under the shirt. Renee wore underarmor under her band uniform and she was fine in cold weather. And, of course, we have to do fundraising. I hate that stuff. I wish they would just add a fee to the cost and give that option instead of fundraising. We have to sell pizzas and cookie dough. Olia has to sell 16 things. I hate bugging friends to buy stuff, so we will probably buy most of it.
Dan told the girls he would take them to the movies later today. Dasha wanted to see High School Musical 3, but we told her that it wasn't out yet. She insisted that her friend Alonya had told her on the phone that she was going to see it today. Unless they have a bootleg copy, that is not going to happen because it is not being realeased until the Fall. Dan is taking them to see a mummy movie. Dasha and Olia love scary movies!
It is so lonely without Renee. She is happily back at college but we miss seeing her on a daily basis. Dasha is chatting on the phone with her friend Alonya. They call each other a lot! Dasha is definitely just like an American preteen! She loves the telephone. One of her other friends is with a family in Colorado. They want me to call everytime that Dasha wants to speak to their host child. Dasha's English is certainly good enough for her to make a phone call and ask to speak to a friend. The idea of hosting children is so that they get use to family life. Parents don't call and ask other parents if their child can speak to another 13 year old. My friend Maggie told me that that family does not have any children. I still think they should know that it will be odd for their 13 year old hosted(and soon to be adopted) daughter to have her parents make phone calls to ask if she can speak to another child. That child's English is definitely good enough to make phone calls. I think that they had her tutored because they are adopting her. Dasha did not get to speak to her much during the summer. I called for Dasha several times and the family said it was not a good time; they were making lunch or sitting chatting, etc. It seemed strange to me that they didn't welcome their hosted daughter speaking to one of her best friends, but, oh well. All of Dasha's other friends seemed to be able to use the phone to call her.
Olia's best friend Katelyn is coming over to play with the girls today. I cancelled my afternoon students and my babysitter because I was going to take Dasha to the eye doctor. But now that they don't have time to see her, the girls can play together with Katelyn.
