I had the choice to go to a birthday party to a family number in the Country . I could not go as Adda did not want to. The whole family went even the old lady.
Adda and I  went out at 10 am and came back at 9 pm. What a day. We were walking the whole day and in Herbertstrasse Adda went to the shops. We meant to go to Legoland in Sony Center and we did. Coming out of our train you see Sony Center like this.

Everything is new here and build after Berlin was one city again. Except the clock. This clock is old and famous. There are even songs about it. Lovers used to meet there. All this was no mans land when Berlin was divided and now it is an elegant center.

Sony Center.

In Sony Center.
berlin 2008 059

We found Legoland in Sony Center and in we went. We did not stay long. I bought a T shirt for Thor and Adda some lego for him. He loves to play with it.
berlin 2008 061

Legoland is good for kids that like to play with legos but we left. We wanted to be out in the sunshine. Outside in Sony Center we had  lunch. We had the same as the office people there and it was not on the menu. We just asked what the ladies there had and said we wanted the same. It was very good.

Leaving Postdammerplatz and going on a walk
berlin 2008 092

The green man which the East Berliners had and is a symbol of Berlin  now.
berlin 2008 097

I met him in Friedrichstrasse , Europes biggest avenue. Which is in East Berlin. Berlin is much more fun since we could go to the East again. I love coming there all the beautiful old houses are there.
berlin 2008 102

Adda with the Berliner bear and I had to be quick because people walked between us.
berlin 2008 104

We are on Unter den Linden.
The old main street of Berlin. There we have the opera and many important buildings. You see the Dom the cathedral and the TV tower in East Berlin which is seen all over. Do you see the cross which the sun reflection makes. The west Berliners used to joke about that.
berlin 2008 113

Here was a very ugly house called The palace of the republic. Before that here was a real palace there and some people want to rebuild it. I don't know what they will do. Some Est Berliners liked the Palace of the republic.
berlin 2008 139

Berlin has many rivers and channels. It is fun going on  a boat trip but we did not do it this time.
berlin 2008 141

You know you are in East Berlin if there are trams there. The west Berliners did not keep them. They are so charming, the trams.
berlin 2008 144

The famous red city hall. You can see the Berliner flag on it. Berlin has many city halls.
berlin 2008 146

Now we were on Alexanderplatz or Alex like they call it. It was the main square in East Berlin when the city was divided and still is very important. The clock tells the time of cities in the wold, among them Reykjavík They call it die Weltuhr. World clock,. Many people meet by the clock.
berlin 2008 148

Years ago I went to this shop Saturn to buy CD´s for Gummi. It was not so simple then. Adda wanted to go there now so I went in and I phoned Gummi asking him if I could buy some CD for him. Yes, he sent me a sms and I bought him one.  I then waited outside because Adda needed more time.
berlin 2008 152

There is always something happening on Alex and they played such nice music.
berlin 2008 153

We took a bus and went to the center of West Berlin. Kudamm as they call it. Kürfüstendam. and we had dinner there. The church was bombed down and is now a reminder of war. How stupid wars are. The Berliners call the gap  the whole in the tooth. There is a new church by the old one.
berlin 2008 157

Now we took the bus number 100. It is a double decker and we sat upstairs. The number hundred goes the same way as the city tour but we went out on Unter den Linden and now we went into the other direction to the Branderburgertor. After that we went home. No one was back from the country when we came.

skald -- these are great pics!  Is Legoland a museum?  I assume it's also got lots of shops.  My son would have loved it as a boy.  Legos were his favorite toy, and my vaccuum sure did eat a lot of them over the years!

Joanna.  Thanks I am glad you liked the pictures.
Mimi.  I am also glad you like the pictures Legoland is an amusement park but there in Berlin it is all inside and in a cellar without windows and was not appealing to me and Adda,

Skald.....Another batch of wonderful pics!  Now I want to take a boat ride in Berlin.
  • skald said on Aug 21, 2008....
Botoni.  That would be fun  on a good day. You could also have nice meals on the boat. I saw a small boat this time as I sat outside in a restaurant, It was full of young people cheering, having fun and we were waiving to them. Oh, we would have liked a trip like that years ago, now good eating and good wine and looking at the sights would be good, lol

skald, those are extraordinary pictures! there's some extraordinary architecture in berlin, both more recent but also of older vintage. i was rather struck by the glass "ceiling" of the sony center--did you get a picture of the sony center from the side? i'd be curious what that looks like.

oo, legoland! i've had a lifelong fascination with lego--my wedding gift to my wife was actually a lego castle. that giraffe was amazing!

Ed.  It is very hard to get a picture of Sony Center. You can go around it and get the entrances but it is really hidden between the big houses there.

I would have liked to be outside in a Legoland. I hear that they have a garden like that in Munich and there is one in Copenhagen. I would love to go to one. What a wonderful gift a lego castle. Thanks for the comment Ed.
