Now one can know what it feels like to be an astronaut—sans the dignity of a spacesuit. Instead of rocketing to outer space, one only has to climb down the ladder of a boat with jazzed up inverted fish bowl over your head.
Sea walking is one of the attractions at the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park of Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.
Sea walking works a bit like those windowed brass helmets worn by dry-suited deepsea divers found in Jules Vern’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Instead of an air tank, regulator buoyancy vest and fins, one has air tube pumping air into your helmet, which is heavy enough to neutralize one’s natural buoyancy to allow you to walk though a shallow coral bed. The constant flow of air prevents air from entering the helmet.
