Travelling with my husband is always fun, we never book our accommodation, we don't ever really know where we are going just a rough idea, a game plan, hazy foggy kind of around 'there'

So we headed out to a place called Herberton, as with most places in QLD the best place to get local info on great places to either stay or see is the pub! we walked in the doors and this publican was an ass! attitude over load and I walked out the door hubby followed.

We spent the rest of the day driving around all sorts of old towns, wandering in and around rural areas which we love doing for stock footage.  Anyway as the afternoon wore on we realised... bed? where are we sleeping!  It ended up being a place called Crater Lakes cottages, cute little one bedroom cottages set in the rain forest at the edge of a crater lake.  The lakes were formed millions of years ago by volcanoes and have this irridescent blue colour, quite pretty.  We spent all of our time there feeding the locals and as a first I got to hand feed a Rifle Bird who was cheekily grabbing a red grape out of my hand.  Kookaburra's turned up later for a feed on our balcony they also let us hand feed them.  I know they're use to it, every guest offers them food and the owners leave specific notes on what to and NOT to feed them.

Little wallabies (wablies) came by for a taste of kiwi fruit, a tasty morning snack! all in all the wildlife were better fed than we were.  Such a pretty place, we left there the next day for some more exploring around the tableland area, went out a wind farm which of course was windy! silly... man it was cold, freezing cold, red runny nose cold.

The next day we did more travelling out to a town called Ravenshoe, tiny little place.  Its the tallest town in the whole of QLD, needless to say we went to the local and noticed they had rooms available, this is an old world pub built in the 1880's original in all ways except the toilet and shower facilities, although you would not have been mistaken for thinking you were in the fifties, the amount of laminated surfaces in the showers was laughable.

Last night we spent chatting to locals and tourists and one lovely couple who were up from town just for the night to get away, we ended up getting drunk with them te he hee big night, huge hang over this morning, in fact it was so bad we slept in until 9am and I was dizzy for half the day! (shut up! I know what you're thinking)

We got to film/photograph quite a few original buildings from the mining boom era, the weather is dry up there, unlike the coast the wood doesn't rot away so the buildings are in amazing condition.

I could go on and on at what we saw, there's loads of photo's but one thing we realised while away was that we have to create a coffee table book with all of the images we have of the area. I'm going to start researching for a few facts, match them to photo's and price out the printing.

All in all we had a magic time, we slowed down, hubby had a big break from his pressures and I slept like I haven't for ages.  Th kind of sleeps that aren't neccessarily long just very restful.

Bluey, it always astounds me the kinds of people you meet on the road, hardened way of life out there with old world values and manners.

Uni ~ Don't be jealous, if you ever get out here I'd take you on a week long tour of the real Australia, away from the coast where dogs are for working, rum is for breaky and the sky just keeps on going and going and going.
