I woke up this morning,as I thankfully - well sometimes not,do every morning.........but with the heaviest head I have had in YEARS.Not heavy from a hangover or the flu.But a plain-old- fashion-run-of-the-mill-nasty-migraine headache.
It felt like I had been hit on the back of the head with a baseball bat,and I had fallen over, only to get back up and that bastard hit me over the head again.
so,the next challenge was to then open my eyes and switch the lights on.....
No chance of that happening. So there i was walking around the house in total darkness wondering what to do with myself. The first slivers of sunlight were starting to come through the windows,so i relied on that to get around.
I thought about trying to swallow at least a mouthful of coffee before I did anything, but then realised that coffee would not be good.
I got ready and said good bye to my cat for the day,and trudged out to the car.
Driving to the office was ok.But people were still driving with their lights on as it wasnt full light yet - and my eyes dont like that kind of glare very much, especially with a headache like that.
My job entails computer design and draughting work....again,no good for the eyes - but then I have no choice really.I have to come to work and show that I have at least got some thread of responsibility.
As I am typing this, the ache is still heavy in my head.
i am not sure what to take for it,as i didnt even take my tabs for my condition this morning, which has only made matter worse.
I dont normally suffer with headaches, but when I do,they are bad......
Any suggestions....................?

It may or may not work for you but I sit in an upright chair and massage the back of my neck, then my back as far down the side of the spine as your arm will allow (right arm stretched across your front and massage the back left and visa versa)

Then, stretch you arms as far as up as you can as if reaching for something - hold for a few seconds then, keeping them fully stretched, slowly start to bring them down to your sides then relax.  Repeat this 3 or 4 times.

Then stretch your arm out in front of you again as if reaching for something, slowly bring them down to your knees but still outstretched, then relax.  I repeat this a few times.  It does sound like what I call a 'tension headache' and i fully relate to the "being hit on the back of the head with a baseball bat".  This will help release the muscles that are causing it.

It works for me 90% of the time.  I really hope it starts to give you some relief soon cuppa.  So many wouldn't have gone into work in the first place so, if you really can't stand it, you must go home.  I'm sure the delightful (not) Shakira will be only too happy to cover for you.

I can't believe you went to work either!  Please take good care of yourself, CJ.  When I have a migraine, sometimes, ice to the back of the neck right near the base of the skull seems to help.

If it is tension, PC has some really great suggestions - and I will add one more.  It's based on a shiatsu technique.  If you can get your hands on a couple of tennis balls - yeah right, I am sure there are a couple hanging around your office!  LOL - but anyway - put them in a sock.  Push them down towards the toe and tie a knot so that they can't separate.  You want them side by side.  Lie on your back and place the tennis balls at the top of your neck, right near the base of the skull.  Let the pressure of your body weight release the tension in the muscles.

Also, there is a large acupressure point in the hand that helps alleviate pain.  It is located in the webspace between your thumb and index finger.  Rub there and sometimes you will get an endorphin release that can help diminish discomfort and promote general relaxation.

    Feel better!  Hugs - Wishy

When I have a headache I will take my thumb and first finger and press the point at the top of the nose where it meets the brow ridge and hold it for 30 seconds.  It seems to help.

The other thing you can do is drink a caffeinated soda.  The sugar will help keep your stomach settled and the caffiene will open up the blood vessels to increase blood flow.  Lots of water.

    You should be home.

u-i & wishy - I suffer with tension headaches and they sound like really good techniques.  Think I'll try them myself :-)

pusscat - I get tension headaches too and those two things with a couple of tylenols usually makes life better. :)

This isn't related to wearing pants that are too tight, is it? There's a joke about that.
But seriously, your condition isn't funny. That's really too bad but I hope it will go away on its own soon. You don't have stiff shoulders or a stiff neck, do you?

Aside from telling you to go to the doctor and getting your eyesight checked...but then you were sleeping so okay just get everything checked.....the only thing that has worked for me is the ole drinkers cure for a hangover.
No not the one about having another drink although that does work like a charm.
You have to go relax, or lie down, and close your eyes and put an ice bag on your forehead (or top of head).  Concentrate on the coolness and before you know it the headache is gone.
Good luck and have the doctor check you out.

    hi cup,
The best thing that i've found is to have a massage. Mainly on the back of your neck and rub upwards toward the ears. This releases a lot of congestion that makes your head hurt. Good luck and i feel for you

Hiya cuppa, im sorry that you suffered a bad headache/migraine this morning, 1 thing i do suffer with is bad headaches, they seem to come an go like the rain, some times thy are due to my seiezures in which case im on dihydracodiene, but iv also take tramadol a few times, i know you cant get them without a perscription before i was given them i had ibrofen/diclofenic,,,as they are non optoid form, i find by sleeping in a dark room for a while with the window open so the freash air gets in at the same time,or a fan if its hot, drinking loads of water to hydrate yourself as heaaches can be due to dehydration,,i hope it gives you a option to think about,,dnt drink any tea or coffee for the day if you cant go wthout them have the decafe instead,,,,,,,lionesss x
