About two months ago I made contact with an old friend of mine, PC, from school via Facebook. We had matriculated together 20 years ago in 1988. Matric being the 12th and final year of school in South Africa, it is now known as Year 12. . .its the year in which you would have your prom, do your university qualifying examinations and leave to enter the big wide world.
We were very close at school as saw each other every day I am sure even during the school holidays. I moved out of the house and away when I left school and invariably we lost touch. We did however see each other briefly at our 10 year school reunion in 1998, but did not take each other's details.
So another 10 years down the line, thanks to modern technology, I found my friend again. And wonder upon wonder, she's been living in Scotland for the past 7 years. How amazing is that??
Anyway, we arranged for her to come and visit us for a long weekend and this past weekend was IT. We had a super time and did a lot of catching up. And honestly it felt as if our relationship needed no "mending" at all. This is a woman with whom I have history with. Someone who knew me before I became a woman, before I met MrP, before my life as an adult started. It is so nice to have her back in my life.
PC booked a hotel room for us for Saturday in Holborn close to Picadilly Circus. We went into London by train in the afternoon and got the tube to the hotel. Booked in and then went for a few drinks at a nearby pub (that's where the above photo was taken). Then we went back to the room to titivate and then we went to Covent Garden by tube for dinner and then on to Picadilly Circus to a nightclub, where we danced until they closed at 3am. It was an absolute blast!!
We got back to the hotel, via cab, at 4am and then had about 3hrs sleep. Up again and then went exploring London, first stop Camden Town market, then Leicester Square and then we went to the all the attractions at the River Thames - Trafalger Square, London Eye, The Houses of Parliament where Big Ben is. The weather was fabulous and we just went where our feet took us.
