It is so easy to fool yourself -

I knew I had gained a lot of weight.  I knew I couldn't fit into most of the clothes in my closet.  But for some reason, I had fooled myself into believing that I hadn't gained THAT much weight over the past two years.  Some of my past posts were about how I was going to take off the weight.  But, in my eyes, there wasn't enough urgency because I still had clothes that fit, I still thought I looked pretty good.

That was until I put on a swimsuit from a year ago to go to a pool party at some friends, and (a) it barely fit, and (b) I looked huge in it.

That was a real eye opener!

It does sneak up on you doesn't it? Be healthy and know that most of us have the same struggle.

    Hi Jersey Goddess~
It's because we're from Jersey, and we have to store fat for the coming winter. I'm convinced that's the reason even though I haven't lived in Jersey for a decade.
I've gained 30 pounds since I stopped smoking 7 months ago!
Can you imagine how much food I've eaten?
And now I'm insulin resistant again!
I went shopping for clothes to wear in Jersey the end of the month, and I wanted to cry. The jeans I bought last September for my vacation were size 8. The new ones are size 12.  I haven't worn a 12 since I was pregnant.
I saw it happening, but the strange thing is that I could eat like a truck driver for 3 weeks, and the scale didn't budge.  All of a sudden....bam!  5 pounds!
I long for the old days when I could miss one meal and lose 5 pounds!

oh i'm so glad there's a logical explanation for this 20 lbs i have on me from last year!  i'm just storing fat for the upcoming winter.......whew!

um, I am just more cuddly now?
actually, I am intrigued, Twyla...if I am insulin resistant, it is a thing that I can change? how? I am all for getting offa meds if I can....do tell!!
I am not even 'from' Jersey but I guess I picked up the winterizing effect from when I lived there.....peace! mamie

LOL ya all - Thanks for the smiles!

Woman:  amazing, ain't it how it just seems like one day your thin and the next, wham, ya can't fit into any thing you own?

Twyla - so glad to see you - and I wish that I had the excuse that I had quit smoking - I am still smoking like a chimney and still eating like a pig... YIKES!  I remember when I could eat 100 calories per day for 3 days and lose 10 lbs - not anymore....

Secret - If I store any more fat for the winter, I will be moving from NJ to Alaska because I will truly be a whale....

Mamie - I wish I could blame NJ, but no, alas - it's me!

I just call it built in botox. only trouble is, some of it isn't quite where I wished it would be! LOL

yup, I've got my "winter coat" from last year and I fear that I may add more "coat" to it this winter if I don't get off my arse.

Denial is a wonderful thing.  Well, wonderful until you have to face the facts.  LOL

  • FutureGoddess said on Aug 18, 2008....

Q1 - I wish that were the case....

UI - Well, it's time for me to face the facts!

one more thing I wanted to add....bathing suits should be outlawed!
  • polarheart said on Aug 18, 2008....
FG, its a good place to be. . .where you are right now.  I had that same realisation when we came back from vacation end of  Jan this year and I looked at the photos. . .I was huge.  So, I said "that's it!!  I am 37 years old and I WILL draw the line right here and make a positive change to my body".  To date I have lost 24+ pounds.  I feel wonderful now.  I have joined the gym too (start tomorrow) just to get toned now the weight is off.

    You can do it too.

A few extra pounds creeped up on me, too--in the two years since we moved up here.  But I wouldn't dare test it out by trying on my old bathing suit....so you are ahead of the game!
  • Fallyn said on Aug 18, 2008....
we could all go to the old style bathing suits. *laughing* that would solve the problem.

Polar - Congrats!  Yes, It defintely is a good place in a way - It's given me the motivation to finally say: "NO MORE!!"

Thanks Catch22 - I agree - I do want to do it right this time and not use any Fad or starvation diets - even if it takes longer than a week to lose 45 lbs ::grin::

Fallyn - Are we talking turn of the 19th C bathingsuits made of wool? With long sleeves, full length skirts, etc?

Wombie - I had this party on Saturday - I got into my suit and almost called my friend up to tell them I was not coming: "I was calling in fat" - but I realized how silly that was.  So I went - tried not be tooooo self conscious and had a good time.

Oh - and Mamie - I am not against bathing suits per se - just me in one right now.... and there is nothing NOTHING worse than going bathing suit shopping no matter how thin you are!!!
