The smog watch that was in effect for a four-county area, including Kitsap, was canceled Sunday by the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency.

An onshore flow moved into the region Sunday, clearing the pollutants from the area and restoring the air quality range to the "good" designation. Air quality is expected to remain within these levels for the remainder of the week, according to the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency.

The watch was issued last week to serve as a warning for people sensitive to pollution to stay indoors and as a suggestion for healthy people to limit their outdoor exercise.

While the Puget Sound region tends to have some of the cleanest air in the country, when regular onshore flows are interrupted, pollution can become trapped between the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges.

That's what happened over the weekend, resulting in the "moderate" air quality designation.

To help keep pollutants low, people are encouraged to drive less and choose non-gas-powered yard and recreation equipment.
