So Yahoo just put out a list of the top 30 Sci-Fi movies as rated by Yahoo users.

I never realized that Yahoo users were so incredibly retarded. I've heard great things about Iron Man, but the TOP Sci-Fi movie? I doubt it. Some of the movies that made the list are downright stupid.

For instance, Predator makes # 18. Now I happen to like Predator very much, but as a "top film"?? No. It's strictly a B movie - the movie you watch on a rainy afternoon when there's nothing else on. Star Wars Revenge of the Sith sucked so bad I didn't even bother watching the following two episodes.  It does not belong on the list at all. And I'm under no circumstance going to watch his cheap ass animated releases. Serenity came in at #30. Serenity? I love Joss Whedon's stuff, but Serenity the movie was a TV script through and through. And it wasn't even that great a TV show to begin with. No way it deserves to even be on a top 50 list.

What didn't make it?
  • 2001 A Space Odyssey. Kubrick's classic ought to be in the top 5.
  • Men in Black. I mean, come on - you're going to put the Transformers and Ghostbusters on the list but not Men in Black? How retarded are you, people?
  • THX 1138. This for me was George Lucas' best film. Judging by the complete idiocy of their choices (BOTH X-Men movies???), I'd say that this Sci-Fi classic is a little before their time.
  • A Boy and His Dog. Young Don Johnson stars in a post-Apocalyptic world where his only friend is a talking dog. Great stuff.
  • Blade Runner. What fools! Fools I tell you!!

The choices on Yahoo's top 30 are so silly I just have to vent. So here's my top ten Sci-Fi Movie List.

10.The Empire Strikes Back

9. Star Trek IV - Kirk Saves the Whales

8. THX 1138

7. Batman Begins (Does this count as Sci-Fi? I'm on the fence)

6. The Dark Knight (SEE THIS IN IMAX!!)

5. I am Legend

4.2001 A Space Odyssey

3. The Matrix

2. Blade Runner

1. Aliens

I like your list and would have to give this some thought before settling on ten. I haven't seen THX1138 or The Dark Knight by the way. Its possible I might replace your #'s 4, 6, 7, 8(after seeing 6&8), and 9 with something else.

Off the top of my head, which isn't a good way to do this, I have four that come to mind. Understand I'm looking at this by personal favorites. The Abyss, Close Encounters, Star Wars, and Starman. Perhaps it was Jeff Bridges superb performance and the humor that makes me like Starman so much.

2001 A Space Odyssey is a well done film and usually ranks high, but I found it slow and a bit boring. Your top three are fine with me.

Pitch Black was good, but doubt it would make top ten, maybe top twenty.

I don't know whether to include Batman movies.

You have to realize that the Yahoo list is according to Yahoo users.
That means generally the same people that are stupid enough to fall for
Borax and the Democrat party. The same kind of people that think free
enterprise (big oil companies) is the problem instead of lame Democrats
in congress that outlaw the use of our own resources in lieu of high-priced
    foreign products.

bah, serenity definitely deserves to be in the top 10, at the very least. i would argue that comic book adaptations don't really belong in this category myself, though. although how you can possibly have star trek IV but not II on your list, i will confess i cannot possibly understand.

I tried not to pick more than one film out of a series (with the exception of batman, because both of those films are just awesome) and liked the save the whales movie better than the death of spock. but you do have a point - khan deserves to be up there.

yeah - comic films were a qualm of mine, too, but it is arguable that given all the technology batman uses there are some links to sci fi.

that's fair: i mean, i like star trek IV too, but c'mon, it's wrath of khan, man. :>

that's a fair point re: comic book films. :>

Ed- How in the name of blazes and bonfires could I forget Serenity? - Oh, I know, its due to the 'off the top of my head' thing. I should never indulge in that.
