So last night, I got myself home and in the house eventually. It had been a long day - all i really wanted to do was crawl into bed and tell the rest of the world to fuck off - it had been one of those days.
But I have started to draw seriously again, and I am working on 2 separate pieces of still life. One of them is a vase of some very colourful flowers that I have in my lounge, that has been begging me to draw it for the last,I dont know how long. Then there is my small palm tree on my porch with the most beautiful looking leaves - that I have wanted to try and capture for a while - this one is more of a challenge,as ever time I sit on the porch to get it on paper, the wind picks up,and the leaves keep moving,so its a bit frustrating.
I decided instead of putting on the TV and  looking for some arbitrary music channel,to listen to,on my satellite TV.i thought I would troll through the collection of cd's that I have.
I ended up finding one, that I thought had been lost along the line somewhere, which i put in and played.I sat back on the sofa and tried to relax and suddenly all the memories had come flooding back.
You see, after the band that I had split up - I spent a good couple of years playing with various different bands, but never on a permanent basis.
Then one weekend,a couple of years ago,one of the guys that I had been jamming with, who worked for a recording studio in town, suggested we all get together at the studio, and see what we could come up with.We were all familiar with each other and we all knew at least the same 30 or 40 songs. So we knew that we would be able to put something down.
So the Saturday arrived, and we all arrived at the studio - some of us in a less than sober state after having had a 'night out with the boys' - having left all our gear there earlier in the day.
We decided to write out a short list of all the stuff we all knew, and had an idea on what we wanted to play.
This list contained songs like - 'Get a haircut...' by George Thoroughgood,'Sultans of swing' Dire Straits 'Tears from heaven' Eric Clapton 'Baracuda' Heart 'Tubular Bells' Mike Oldfield
'Voodoo Child' Hendrix.....'Hotel California'......sung by a female no less !!!!
'Sweet Home Alabama' .....and the list goes on.I will post the full list a little later - but it is a real mish mash of stuff.
I was playing 6 string most of the night, and was given the opportunity to play lead on a few too, which was a lot of fun.we had contemplated our own rendition of 'Stairway to heaven' but we then decided that was a song better left for another day.
We had arrived there at about 10 30pm that night.I think we ended up leaving at something like 4 am the next morning.
It was a lot of fun,and a real chance for everyone to let there hair down - which was good.
we had an even bigger surprise on the Monday when we were told that our friend had managed to record most of the shit that we had played - raw just like that, and had given us each a CD recording of it as a 'momento'
I would love to get back into music full time again......but its the same old thing.....how do find the time .....?

Wow - no wonder that was a night to remember :-)

I know so many people are always saying don't waste time looking back, look to the future but, it is our past that shapes our future.  I LOVE reminiscing about old friends and old times.  There should always be space and time in everyone's present to remember the past occasionally.

I for one would really love to hear that live jamming session.  What a lovely thing for your friend to have surprised you all with.

I've only been on here a short few days and this will be my first ever comment to anyone on here...so I hope I do your "memories" justice...

... we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well….and it is said that time changes things, and although we know that it is us who actually has to change them ourselves… there  never seems to be enough time to do everything, but there is always enough time to do the most important thing…not so?! …for events and people who come into our lives happen in a “sequence” in time, but in their significance to ourselves they find their own order the continuous thread of revelation…so I hope that you will find the time to do what makes you happiest…life is too short not to nurture our dreams.

    LadyWillow - welcome to Soulcast.

May I say that your first comment here is quite beautiful.  It took me a little time to find my way round here but just ask anything you like.  We're a pretty mixed bunch but quite harmless (most of the time :-)

The tabs at the top of your home page - My Users, My Conversations and My Interests are very useful, especially for being able to follow comments that have followed your own.

Now that is a night to remember...I only wish I could've been there to see and hear it.
I lived in Montevideo, Uruguay and went to High School there.  Some of my friends had a band going for some time...they were locally known but never in the big time for some reason or other.  Once in awhile they would get together with their musician friends and jam the afternoon away and I sat in on one of those sessions.
Too bad that nobody had the foresight to tape those sessions as they might have been able to cut a record out of that or at least have something for the memories.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane Cuppa.    :^)

I had to buy another pack of cigarettes this morning, not really knowing why I did because just recently I was praying so hard to God to help me quit…and I did-for about 3 moths....
If I only knew then what I know now.
Maybe E and I would have played hide and seek instead. : )...
I remembered....
We are going to New Mexico for Xmas...
