Why people blogging? When did it start when people revealed themselves to complete stranger? All my life I've known diaries (which I've never able to keep up writing), private diaries, with the lock and kept in secret places.

Since the things written in diaries are often personal stuffs, when did it start when people pouring their personal thoughts and feelings to everybody? With aliases maybe one way or another they may still able to guard the secrecy, but I'm talking about blog with real name on it!

Why people start revealing themselves to people they don't even know? Do personal things become not really important nowadays? Or they just simply want to tell to the whole world: hey, it's me, look at me, admire me, or pity on me! Is that a desperation? Do they have not enough real friend to share their thoughts? Do they don't have enough friend to bluff about themselves or take pity on them?

I have been thinking about this also.. I am one of those who writes alot on my "real" blogg, pretty personal stuff but it was not enough so that is why I am here. I do it because there are somethings I can not talk about or I am not comfortable talking about it face to face, but I want to get it off my chest. So I do it to a total strangers and I hope after a while people who reads my words online they get to know and know what to expect and people who dont want to listen to me they will only read me once and then never again. We live in huge cities, there has never been so many people so close to each other.. but still there are people who are lonely, who can not connect to those who are around them, people who can not find a mate, lover or even a cuddling partner... So online we all come closer, it helps us to fullfill us with our need of company.

I hope I did not offend those who have realname blogs. The reason I ask is just merely an admiration to those who can closure their personal stuffs to the world, as many great writers do... As you mentioned Dazlak, I agree that living in big city made people not too close to each other...maybe I just get used to hold my deepest feeling or thought sealed.. Maybe it's not the healtiest thing to do..but what the hell..everybody will die someday :D

Yeah you only live once so why compromise it. That is what I think. But many people dont agree with me, well that is theyr problem. But there are of course some boundaries. You never tell anything on a named blog. You dont want to have talk with someone you really dont know about your marragie problems.

That is one good thought, iciabruxelles. I love blogging because I love writing but I still don't have a concrete idea/answer as to why I blog instead of just write in my diary (which I also do update regularly).

270: yeah..tell me about it...I even don't have a diary..really lack of writing skills AND ideas :(. However in SC I just realized today (duh!) that this site more like public online chatting, with hundreds of topics and hundreds (thousands?) of members

well the reason why people write to strangers is that they wont be judged ....or at least they won't feel judged .......like that they can say anything and no one will feel offended and will be more understandind ......like maybe some days you just feel like your friends are stabing you in the back and you need to talk or be listened to.....so maybe for you it's weird but to some one else it's more then being heard .....it's being themselves without the judgement
