I was reading mimi's post 'Examine your underwear' and you know how one thought leads to another. I ended up thinking about who sees my underwear.

It also led me to think about how people dress around the house.

My daughter has her favorite heavily over-sized t-shirts. If she's in the house and not going out, that is her apparel.

My wife loves her 'special soft' jammies. She will go outside with me to sit at the patio table with her 'special soft & lite' robe.

I have a couple friends who don't see any reason to wear anything (they tell me).

I'm different than these people. I must be psychologically damaged. I have no jammies and haven't had since about eight. I have never owned a robe. I have no junky, comfortable piece of clothing I've fallen in love with.

If you came to see me at midnight unannounced right before I was going to bed, I'd have on the same thing I spent the day in. The only time my three kids and wife have seen me dressed any different is when I come upon an emergency kitchen trip and not yet in my comfort zone (now they see my undies).

Here's the psychologically damaged part - I only feel comfortable in my jeans and western shirt. And I need those cotton briefs and t-shirt underneath. Maybe its because I was raised around my grandfather and ranchers. You wouldn't have caught them walking around the house in a robe, undies, or an over-sized t-shirt.

Another question I have is do you sleep in your 'comfy in-house apparel?'

If you are wondering, no, I don't sleep in jeans and western shirt.

After spending the day fully and appropriately clothed I enjoy a nice refreshing shower before pulling on a very old pair of sweat pants and baggy T.  Usually it's late in the evening and it comes with a cup of hot chocolate.  I sleep wearing nothing but a dash of deoderant.

I have several pairs of leggings, nice stretchy ones that are very comfortable, and either a big t-shirt or a tank top, depending on the weather.  And no bra!  If I want to be totally comfortable, that is the first thing that goes.

I think I mentioned that I'm no slave to fashion.  If it isn't comfortable I won't be wearing it.  Or not for long anyway.

Believe it or not, I was young once and slept au naturel, but nowadays, it's usually a nightgown, preferably oversized and soft.

I dress like a slob at home.  If I know I'm "in for the night" I will wear shorts/sweats and tshirt/tank top sans underwear.  I usually have my hair in one of those sloppy ponytail buns.  It's not very attractive, but it's all about comfort.  Regardless of what I am wearing, I rarely wear shoes in the house.

I sleep in whatever shirt I end up in or nothing at all depending on the room temperature.

  • beyondtheveil said on Aug 12, 2008....
bot- That does sound comfortable. I can imagine these things, especially the hot chocolate. I can't get to sleep with nothing on. I have fallen asleep with nothing on (after in bed pleasantries) but feel..um..naked otherwise.

mimi- My wife has told me about the bra thing. In the evening after work, that's the one she gets rid of too. She flips the latch, looks toward the ceiling with her eyes closed and makes this heavenly sound. I'd hate to have to wear one of those.

unique- I'm thinking t-shirts and tank tops are looking quite popular for many people. When you mentioned shoes, that's the one thing I change for comfort. My boots or big tennies go and one of two pair of house shoes find my feet.

I usually dont get home till late and on those nights i stay in my clothes until bed like u do.  Somedays the exact same outfit is less or more comfortable so if i get home late and still wanna watch a little boob tube but dont wanna get my jammies on bc i ll go to bed soon and its one of those days that those same clothes are less comfortable ill just take my pants off and wear the shirt i had on for the day with my undies.  Im allowed to do that because i live only with my Phil.  When i lived alone i was like ur friends.  The second i walked into the house i was stripping down to nothing.  My mom could never figure our why i chose to "keep" my "dirty laundry" by the front door.  I sleep with nothing on but my underwear, i wake up naked though and my undies are usually bunched up under the blankets by my feet.  Im not sure how that happens, good dreams i guess : >

Unless I have to leave the house, I dress more for comfort than appearance.

In the summer, I'll wear shorts, preferably something comfy-waisted, and t-shirts or tank tops. At the moment I'm wearing the tank top and cotton Bermuda shorts that I wore to yoga this morning, but I have to meet some friends for dinner in a couple of hours, so I'll throw on something a little more presentable.

In the winter, I wear lots of men's flannel PJ bottoms around the house, along with a tank top or t-shirt underneath a sweatshirt.

Regardless of the season, bras and underwear are entirely optional if I'm not leaving the house. I don't wear anything to bed, either.

My dad will only wear jeans and two-pocket short-sleeved button down shirts (which my mom has a hell of a time finding) over a cotton undershirt. The only time I have ever seen him in shorts was when he wore swim trunks on our vacations when I was a kid. My brother's the same way. They don't consider my husband or my ex real men because they wear shorts and sandals in the summer.

naked at home, in my garden, in my bed and especially naked on the beach. this behavior is somewhat new for me since I moved to hawaii. Prior to this great hawaiian climate I had not been outdoors naked until the age of 38. It was so incredible to be outdoors naked. Even so, I will not do this if anyone is around, even my boyfriend...I guess I was deeply indoctrinated with body shame when I was growing up.

when you said you are always dressed I got claustrophobic for ya. having the sun touch every part of my body is very healing. It would be interesting to hear what you would have to say after laying in the sun neked :0 give it a try and get back to us

At home I have my comfortable slouch about clothes and I usually change into them once I am back from work. Like Mimi the bra goes at the first opportunity. I don't usually slouch in my PJs, they are for bed.
  • secretlife said on Aug 12, 2008....
since i work from home, i've become a slouch.
i wear shorts and t-shirts and flip flops all summer-
i'll wear shorts til oct...and layer with tshirt/sweatshirt unitl my feet start to freeze-
then i'll switch to jean or sweats and socks and sneakers.

i do wear underwear even in slouch mode.

i wear nightgowns to bed.  and i put it on just before i get in.

star- You made me laugh twice. Once about your mother & the dirty laundry by the door and the other about the 'case of the missing underwear'. But I easily understand things like this because my wife does the strangest things in her sleep.

eilan- Real men, shorts and sandals, very funny to me. That's because in the Western high plains many men will wear them and just as many don't want to go near them. I don't really care so long as they don't weigh 300 lbs and go in public.
  • beyondtheveil said on Aug 12, 2008....
andora- In the desert where I live people are consistently warned about the sun. The media warns them and so do doctors. People still take in the sun, but I think they have a lot plain scared of it. I used to almost live in the water when young, had a killer tan.

alyss- Those bras must be the devil to wear. I've heard that from so many women. Are those slouch clothes t-shirts and tank tops? Does everybody have those?

secret- Flip flops wouldn't do it for me. That means I can't wear socks. And they make noise. Also, when I'm outside at night which is often, its not unusual for a scorpion or 6-8 inch long centipede to run by my feet. I need stomping shoes. That's in the city, by the way.

Its quite a sight. Me jumping up and down, the dogs barking, and my wife screaming "Kill it!  Kill it!.
  • secretlife said on Aug 12, 2008....
    it's a comforting sound beyond-
    flip-flop, flip-flop,flip-flop....lol

we don't have scorpions....and i'm a pretty good bug-stomper, even with flip-flops on!  you haven't seen a thing til you've seen me attack a june bug wielding my shoe!
  • CreativeWoman said on Aug 12, 2008....
I live in capris and cute but comfy tops in the summer.  I always wear my undergarments.  About dark I switch to a nightshirt and just my underpants.  That's what I sleep in.

In the winter, I wear jeans and sweatshirts/cardigans/sweaters, etc.  I dress for warmth.  After 8 or so in the evening, I switch to fleece pajamas and sleep in those as well.

LOL still laughing about you jumping up and down killing the creatures by your feet!  I wear tee's and jeans at work at home everywhere.  I either wear a oversize tee to bed or one of my comfy pjs. I am going to hate to give up my crocks come winter though ~

I wonder how people survived in the past with out all this great info from dr.s? Of course we should find shade when we feel the burn. I do not use sunblock, hardly have wrinkles because I use an umbrella at the beach and a hat on the farm. My upper body has been perpetually tan on top and white on the bottom, but now that I am on the farm with lots of privacy I wear a hat and something to shade shoulders and arms. I definitely notice a difference all around now that I have been getting the nutrition from the sun, that many forget to get a regular dose of, on my lower body.

Most people do not realize that each pore of our skin has a little sphincter that opens and closes, when we put lotions and oils on and go out into the sun this gets fried and stuck open lending to the leathery aged look that many think is inevitable.

BeyBey.. ...in the summer i like to wear a flowing skirt with t-shirt or tank top....

Or my ex husband boxers...no sentimental reasons here...only because they are sooo comfy....i kept 4.......i also sleep with them .....oh, and i have to have a t-shirt at night.........can't sleep naked......so usually is boxers and t-shirt......or only t-shirt and no underwear ...... and no sheets.......

In the winter i wear gym pants and a sweater......i sleep with my favorite pj, a t-shirt and socks...absolutely socks .....can't stand to have my feet cold.......i just don't fall asleep........;-)

  • beyondtheveil said on Aug 12, 2008....
secret- Its a comforting sound? Flip flop? Whatever you say, dear.

cw- One thing I like about where I live is not having to switch for winter. We wear jackets, but don't change anything.

quiet- Ok. I give up. What are crocks?

andora- I've never worn a hat. Maybe that's why I look like a rancher.

ginsoul- When those boxers wear out, you can go to the mens dept. and pick the softest. Be sure and tell them its for you. I wonder why you and I can't sleep naked? Could it be feeling vulnerable?
  • gingersoul said on Aug 12, 2008....
    BeyBey.....i don't know....its always been like this...as far as i remember.......
    .
I know that i have some control issues...so  maybe its an unconscious way to maintain some sort of control even during the moments in which i cant control myself......lack of control equal vulnerability.....

You know...these boxers are incredible in good shape........great cotton....;-)
  • RollingC said on Aug 12, 2008....
My favorite hang out at home clothes are a pair of dark cotton boxers and sleeveless t-shirt.  I sleep in them too.  Can't really get used to hanging around the house naked and the only time that used to happen is with my wife but not often as she has naked issues that won't be addressed anytime soon.
Even when younger I didn't normaly romp about the house naked unless me and my girlfriend were playing around.
Shoes or sandals is something else entirely.  I have bad feet (and ankles) so I have had to wear inserts all my life practically.  Walking barefoot on soft carpet is one thing but on hard floors is another and to be avoided.
Got flip-flops and another pair of easy-on sandals for nightime walking to the kitchen and another soft foam-like sandals good for the beaches and hanging out all day at home.
Otherwise a comfortable pair of jeans, t-shirt or shirt and a good pair of comfortable shoes or my favorite hi-tech sneaks.

Beyond ~ Now that is really a thought to plant in a young womens head like mine.. all I can see now is you prancing around your house in your white undies and white t shirt.. hands covering certain unmentionables... te he he

I'm a naked kind a girl, as soon as I get home all my kit comes off! in Winter right now its a t - shirt and satin pj's... but generally I don't wear much of anything.. as for my nickers.. my friends have seen me in them pretty much everyone, workmen, actually I recall an art show I did as a nude model where my bosses were attending ( I didn't know) so even they saw all those bits..

In bed?? naked, winter or summer naked, can't stand the feeling of clothing when I'm in bed it also hampers the spontaneous nature of love making... or a morning quicky.

  • Expendable said on Aug 13, 2008....

Long t, a vest with pockets and sweats. I don't wear the vest and sweats to bed but sometimes the t.

Deshabille. (Sp?) I like to wear my Daddy's manly western shirts. But unbuttoned. With nothing underneath. Tee-hee. Daddy's shirts smell soooo manly. I wear them to bed when I want to fantasize. Tee-hee again!!!

    Bamboo girl is back!!!!!

  • FutureGoddess said on Aug 13, 2008....

I always wander around the house in a wife-beater t-shirt/tank top and a pair of pajama pants (flannel in the winter, cotton in the summer) but the minute I am ready for bed, I sleep au natural - nada, nothing, nude!  I always put a bathrobe or the pj pants and top at the foot of the bed in case an emergency exit  or trip to the kitchen may be needed.  Although I live alone, my blinds need replacing in the livingroom/kitchen areas and I would hate to give my neighbors a show.

  • beyondtheveil said on Aug 13, 2008....
ginsoul- I'm happy for your boxers. And you said it as well as I ever could, control = vulnerability.

rolling- I need to get some of those t-shirts I guess. The outer wear kind. Maybe with the Coyote and Roadrunner on them. Jeans and t-shirts would be comfortable for me.
lucy- You nudie modeled and you bosses showed up?! Did I get a laugh out of that, or what? And yes, I've done some 'prancing'. Any guy with a daughter has pranced regardless of how careful he is.

  • beyondtheveil said on Aug 13, 2008....
expendable- It took me a while in life, but  did eventually get a vest, a winter one. I'm very happy with that thing.

places- I'm calling you 'places' from now on. I don't like calling you 'empty', you're anything but empty. And I swear, my daughter has t-shirts that almost go to her ankles.

bamboo- Hey, you have been gone a long time, haven't you?

FG- Yes, I can imagine how see-through blinds could affect home wear. Wife-beater t-shirts! I've got to remember that.

  • beyondtheveil said on Aug 13, 2008....
memyself- When I was a little boy, I was dressed for bed in pjs. They did the same thing as you, I got all twisted up. That put an end to those things. But I never could shed the underwear for sleep.

  • beyondtheveil said on Aug 16, 2008....
Ed- I'm sure shorts are comfy, but I have this thing about shorts - to my eyes I look just plain stupid in them. So even in the house alone wearing them is out.
