It seems to me that the divisive methods of the Republican and Democrat parties have now consumed so much of our time and resources, that reform of our parties is greatly needed.......While I may spend 99% of my energy pointing out the problems I see on the other side of the aisle, I do feel that major reform is needed on both sides.

Here are some of the problems as I see them......I am shooting from the hip here, and I'll try to acheive some balance, but remember I do have a bias, so feel free to add whatever you like as long as you try to do the same and provide some balanced criticism.

Democrats: Use Social / Economic division to garner power, without considering the damaging effects on the economy and sovereignty of our nation.

Republicans: Cling to cash cows, such as the Saudi's, and are beholden to their desires over what is best for the country.

Democrats: (mostly) Do not seem to have a code of ethics when it comes to members of their own party during scandals....he most glaring example would be that of William Jefferson of Louisiana
Why is he still in office?  Republicans usually throw trash like this overboard, Democrats seem to be more interested in keeping that power intact.

Republicans: I really wanted to list another here, but can't think of any off hand and want to get this posted....so go ahead and fill in the blank.....but please remember the one rule i posted......try and be balanced....list at least one problem you have with both parties.

Democrats:  Are very slow and reluctant to say that a given act is wrong or evil.  They are the people who say that America has no right to judge other nations based on their behavior (see Crybabylu's Bush's Criticism of China for example)

They are quick to point out our own faults. (See pretty much anything by bloc)

Republicans: Are quick to judge and very reluctant to change their stance based on new evidence or changing times and often claim that any change of stance is "flip flopping" no matter how long it took or how rarely it happened.

They are seemingly unable to believe that America could do anything less than perfect.

Democrats:  Seriously pander to their chosen "religion" enviromentalism.  There are good aspects to this.  Ex.  We should be pushing for better regulations, higher gas milage, less smog, less oil spills, less ocean dumping, etc etc.  But they push it rediculous levels Kyoto Protocol comes to mind.

Republicans: Pander to religion.  This can clearly be seen hindering science in studies of evolution, medical science (not only stem cell, but cloning, and medication in general as it is often seen as "playing God" how many times a year do you hear about a child who died because their parents refused to give it medical care for it's condition?  As often or more than you hear about hippies chaining themselves to trees to stop loggers.)

Both:  Seem to have a difficult time understanding that we are now a global economy and that means things are much more complicated than is usually protrayed.

Democrats:  Believe that money is the source of all evil and are quick to leavy taxes, or point out how much money so and so made as a reason to be upset.

Republicans:  Refuse to admit that there might be value in things that slow the gathering of money.  (Example, FDA and other regulations)

Both: Have a difficult time understanding that free speech means free speech.  Dems tend to attack religion, and focus on political correctness.  Can't say the N word (ALIEN once deleted/censored me for using it), can't call a woman the C word I could go on but I won't.

Repubs sem more focused on I can't watch a man. . .(carefully choosing my words to prevent censorship.). . .sodomize a woman then relieve himself in her open mouth.  Or that I can't play a video game where I relieve me enemies of their lives via decapitations.  *I've never understood why graphic violence is ok and graphic sex isn't.*

actually, i think there's tons of evidence that no matter which party, politicians are always happy to sweep an embarrassment under the rug every chance they get.

the old wisdom was that democrats have sex scandals, republicans have finance scandals. these days it's a lot more egalitarian.

one observation i have that i don't think you guys hit: republicans as a rule are much more willing to dress up something in the flag and call it good; democrats as a rule are much more willing to dress up something in the name of diversity and call it good.

mind, i don't see the second half as a problem... :>
