If you read my previous post, you'll know what I'm on about.
Anyway, so we decided to go back to basics, which was doing 'quick tick' sport routes, and falling off stuff too hard for us.
The problem is we've ticked most crags that fit the bill locally, back when sport was what we did, week in week out (now we do trad, mostly).
We did noticed in our new guidebooks that a few new routes were up in a disused quarry at swanage. Bit of a walk, three buses, but the climbs fitted the bill for what we wanted, and cause we doubted there would be traffic we took some little speakers and a CD player (we were out to have a fun day!).
Anyways, being us, we didn't really check our guidebooks properly, or take a map, and walked about 2 miles in the wrong direction, couldn't find our quarry, then realised we were standing on it, and felt stupid. Usually we don't fuck up like that, because usually we're doing serious stuff, where we NEED to be absailing in the right place or we're in trouble.
I suppose gettting lost, taking shortcuts, taking more shortcuts, getting more lost - it was like when we didn't HAVE a map or a clue about navigation, just like when we were newbies in the game.
Still, had the desired effect, refreshed my passion for the sport. I'm too busy this monday, but the one after I'll be assulting something a little harder, bigger, and slightly more toe-curling.
