So today was my last day at work. Well, yesterday was the last day I actually did any work because today I just went in and waited for my exit interview and my final check. I was out of there by 10:00am.

However, the next few weeks are going to be so busy that it almost doesn't matter!

Today I had two doctor's appointments. The first was with a urologist for a consultation about the "big V". Heh. I like that nickname.

When I first set up the appointment the idea really didn't bother me too much. Now that I've had the consultation and have had the list of what kinds of things can go wrong with such a simple procedure explained to me in excruciating detail, I must say that I'm a little more nervous now. But still determined to see it through. That's on the 22nd.

My other appointment was a followup to a physical exam that I had a couple of weeks ago. My blood pressure was a little high then and the doctor was kind of concerned. At the followup my blood pressure is a little bit lower and that's good -- I still need to work on it but I shouldn't need any medication right now.

My cholesterol is a little high, and my good cholesterol is a bit low. But my triglycerides are way too high.

Doctor thinks (and I agree) that my problems are linked to my heavy drinking. I have cut back but by less than half. I have to keep working on that.

Tomorrow my homework is due for the computer science class I'm taking, by 9:00pm. I've been lazy and I really need to catch up on it.

Plus I have to make sure and pack my pack because on Sunday I go to Boy Scout summer camp with my boys.

Unfortunately I won't be able to stay the whole week! And that really sucks. Because on Tuesday and Thursday I have employment transition classes -- they're not required but they have been paid for by my previous employer so I'm gonna go. Plus Tuesday is my computer science final at 6:00pm.

Wednesday though I'm going to head back to the Scout camp because they're doing a chili cookoff! And I really, really want to participate.

Friday, we head to Central Oregon for my twentieth high school reunion.

Then next week as a family we are going camping at LL Stub Stewart State Park for a couple of days. Then that Friday is when I go in for the "Big V".

After that it will be a weekend at least if not a whole week of relative rest.

So see, I really don't have time to work or look for a job! Heh.

I have seen some interesting openings here and there, though, and I've even put in for one of them. Because of the outsourcing I'm eligible for Trade Adjustment Assistance. If I had my druthers I'd go to school full time and get a degree but I really don't think that's gonna happen.

A fellow can hope, though, and I do hope to continue schooling regardless of my employment situation.

sounds like the next few weeks will be busy and fun for you tin-
then just a little snip snip and not so much fun for a few days....my husband had that big V thing, and in two days he was back to normal.....

do you have ideas for your next career?
  • TinSoldier said on Aug 08, 2008....
Well, I would like to be an engineer working with computers and electronics, instead of just a technician. But for now I think that being a technician is about all there really is.

I've considered other things but nothing else interests me as much.

Tin.......wow.....talk about having a busy week!

I hope everything will turn out good with your work ......
I didn't know about that outsourcing thing....i might need it in the future if my company keeps giving our jobs to India .. in a little while all of us will be living under the bridges...dammit......

Good luck and have a great vacation!

    Thanks, skald and gingersoul!

I think I'll pull through. I applied for Unemployment just this morning on the computer.

Enjoy your camping TS. I'm hoping that the time you now have will be profitable for you in many, many ways.

You're gonna be busy!  Make sure you get bags of frozen peas for the, uh, you-know-what.

Oh, and just for fun, check out this thread from a board that I lurk on.  :D

Eilan -- oh my, that was hilarious! Heh.

And don't get me started on the Lidocaine...

Alyss, thanks! But right now things aren't looking too profitable since I'm behind on my homework and it's due by 9:00 PM Pacific time -- and I'm here reading this stuff instead.

Then you'd best get to it TS hadn't you? < cracks the whip > Good Luck!

    Eilan, ROFL!

TS, i've been thinking for some time that a political science major would suit you beautifully, to be honest.

    how's your drinking these days?

Political science? Nah. I just try and be an informed voter.

But I always learn something new and try to be open to questioning my own preconceived notions and assumptions even when it hurts to do so. I'm really not all that interested in political science though. If I was going to go that route, I'd be far more interested in economics or history.

My drinking is a little better, but I still need to work on it.

Right now I'm really taking stock of where I am in life, where I've been, where I should be going, etc. That's sounds cliche, I know. But true.

Ah... the "big V": a surgical procedure in which the vasa deferentia of a man are cut for the purpose of sterilization.

Does the "big V" Reduce a Man’s Sexual Drive?

There are some variations on the procedure such as no-scalpel (keyhole) "big V"s, in which a sharp hemostat, rather than a scalpel, is used to puncture the scrotum. Another type of "big V" which may reduce the risk of chronic pain is called an "open ended" "big V". A "normal" "big V" typically seals both ends of the vas deferens with stitches, heat, metal clamps or a combination, after cutting. The open-ended vasectomy obstructs only the top end of the vas deferens. With this method sperm leaks out from the lower severed end of the vas deferens and into the scrotum, thus hopefully avoiding a build-up of pressure in the epididymis. The likelihood of long-term testicular pain from "backup pressure" seems to be reduced using this method.

Seven emergency room visits with two that ended in the psychiatric ward have convinced me that drinking too much is a sure shot to losers lane. Up until my fifties I thought I could control my heavy drinking. Then I got a horrible case of the DT's.

The visits to the psychiatric ward were to detox from horrible DT attacks. It was there that learned how to walk again.

    Good luck my friend.

What is the cure for a loss of appetite? Recently, I cannot seem to eat much food, nor do I have the desire to eat. I am not sure why exactly, but I have experienced this in the past and have no idea how I got back to eating....
