Just one night of solitude
Alone at the balcony, sipping a beer
Love songs from the radio
Rise into the silent starry night
It is then the loneliness strikes
Oh how much I really miss you
And wish you are here by my side.

Thoughts hammer relentlessly
Seeking for an answer, finding none
Philippines is the country
That I found my love, the only one
Opportunities abound for the both of us
Why, oh why are we then destined
To seek fulfillment so far away under the sun.

Patience as they is a virtue
Strength of character is in your soul
But you will have to forgive me if
I write elegies, because of my love for you.

Endure the parting we will, and we must
True love is not known to be easy, or just
But as long as you love me as I do
And work hard to be together again, forever
These nights of solitude will be lined with glitter.

Sorry chingform, we were talking a bit of Tagalog...... just trying to know each other better... You said you are from Penang? The IT industry has changed so much, there's not much scope for 'system programmers' 'administrators', etc, as the whole network/system can be put into one's pocket...... and my granmother(if she is still alive) would even be able to run the IRB systems, hahahahahah

Your poem brought me wonderful memories of my poem-writing years. I used to have small notebook full of poetry (mostly elegies). A few years ago, I threw it away. I lost the passion for writing. Sigh.
  • Susmaryosep said on Aug 16, 2006....
Suejeff... I like your comment, wistful maybe, but sick to the bone in love, that's what:-) DauntlessR..... Salamat Po. Only a Pinay can motivate such a poem! DurianShortCake: I never wrote any poems until I was 49 years, old, and until I worked in the Philippines. Now I have lost that ability, as that person has walked out of my life.. Poems #4 to #8 will show you the road to "misery" :-0

Durian.. Poem writing years? You can't be that ooold ? :-)))

Susmaryosep (may I just call you Kuya? haha), I know this may sound really funny, but the dictionary used to be my favorite book when I was in grade school. I used to be very fond of words. I started writing when I was 16. I only stopped when I was 23. There was a sonnet that I wrote that used to be my favorite among all my pieces. Unfortunately, I forgot the entire piece already.
  • Susmaryosep said on Aug 16, 2006....
Yes you may call me Kuya. One of my friends even called me 'matandang lalaki' .. Probably he is jealous that I can still attract where he can only ogle? :-) Why not post your sonnet.. think hard, you may recollect. BTW, philippine durians is half as tasty as Malaysian ones, and that is a real fact!

I like it! I think Philippines has a big influence in your poem.
  • Susmaryosep said on Aug 17, 2006....
Yes, more than just an influence..It also broke my heart. :-)
