For some of you, this post will be a total repeat since I already emailed you all of this!  My new glasses came in yesterday, two days ahead of schedule.  I picked them up yesterday afternoon.

First off, they look a LOT better on me than I remembered.  And the magnetic sunglasses are just too cool!

Second, I can SEE!  Well, more or less.  I was walking home from the doctor's, thinking "OMG!  Trees have leaves!  Grass has blades!  People have facial features!  ...whoa...what are my feet doing way down there?"

It's great being able to see again.  I needed new glasses for such a long time I'd stopped noticing all but the biggest vision issues.  Now I'm realizing all the little things that are better too.

I'm still adjusting.  Not only is this a stronger prescription and a smaller, different shape frame (square instead of oval), it's also my first prescription for astigmatism, as far as I know.  So that's a lot to get used to all at once, mostly in the side and peripheral vision.  It's getting better already though!

Beyond all of that, the major thing right now is that they seem to slide around a lot and the arms seem to stick out more than I expect (I keep snagging them when I brush my hair which didn't happen with my old ones).  I'll have them adjusted, but I want to wait a few days and make sure it's not me that needs to adjust first.

Anyway!  They're here, and I can see!  It's really exciting and SUCH a relief.  No more squinting and struggling!  Woot!

That's great!  Nothing like getting a fresh pair of glasses to remind you of how long you put off the inevitable, huh?  Which of course reminds me that I really should stop procrastinating and go get a pair for my "long arm" syndrome.

Well.....good for you!  I have two pairs of prescription glasses, and I have worn them for maybe 10 hours total in 5 years.  I hate the way they look on me, so I just do without!  Vanity strikes again!  But you know---the only thing I have trouble with is really small print, even though the doc said I couldn't see far away either.  I just get by.....and I am of the mind that by not relying on the glasses, my eyes have gotten stronger.  I think it's a conspiracy....ha.  But no----I am glad you got the glasses you need and are so happy with them.  Happy seeing!

UI: I think that's the hardest one to get.  At least for nearsightedness like mine, there's no ego involved.  You just can't see, plain and simple!  But to break down and get reading glasses...well I think everyone puts that off to some degree!

Wombat:  I totally understand that for people who have some degree of vision without glasses.  I've worn glasses every waking hour since I was 10 so I'm not bothered by them anymore.  In fact I find that my face, since it's round and kind of babyish, actually benefits from the definition of a pair of frames.  But for people who need them less and aren't suited to them as well, I totally understand not wearing them.  And in some cases I'm sure it does help keep the eyes in shape!  For me, I could lift weights with my eyeballs and it probably wouldn't be enough, lol!

I feel I should apologise here....I am not knocking glasses....not at all!  I know I am soon going to have to break out the case and put them on.  Or get the lasic surgury....Some people actually look better in glasses, and I wish I were one of them!  I think I was rushed when getting my glasses "picked out" for me, also.  It was almost closing time!

It's okay, Wombie, I wasn't offended!  I knew exactly what you meant.

I think I was just reflecting on all the people I'd run into IRL and online who talk about only wearing their glasses part of the time if at all.  For me that was never even a question so I always find that odd.  "Of course I wear them all the time, they're my glasses!" Like, what else would I do with them?  It's so funny for me to think of having glasses but not wearing them because it's completely outside my universe :D

But that really had very little to do with what you actually posted, it was just kind of where my brain was on the subject, laughing at myself.

Yeah it really sucks if you don't have good help picking out your glasses.  Then they don't suit you and are uncomfortable and all sorts of yucky stuff.  One of the things I'm most pleased about is the great service I got where I went.  When I was choosing my frames, the poor lady stayed with me into her lunch break and never said a word or lost her patience with me (and I spent FOREVER going back and forth between choices!).  I didn't even realize what time it was until she said she'd have to unlock the door to let me out.  I felt terrible then!  But they took really good care of me.

Glad you weren't offended.....I get off on a tangent sometimes here.......I can't sleep sometimes wondering if what I said was wrong.

I am not in the same boat as you, as I have not worn glasses "virtually all my life."  But if I had, I would hope that by now I would have found a pair I liked.

Hubby still says...."Well, put on your glasses!"

One pair is in the truck.

The other pair is in an old purse in the closet.

I say, "Yours are closer....."   Ha.......

    But still, no offense!

    Great!
I hope you don't realize how *ugly* I am now that your vision is so clear............
    :-D H.

Congrats on the new specs. ;-) I wear mine from the time I get up to the moment I go to bed so I understand the importance of having the right ones.
