I thought it was hilarious! But are you really surprised by it.

I personally thought that we have things in our own back yard that need cleaning up, before we start criticising other countries.
  • papajack said on Aug 07, 2008....
I know what you are referring to, and it is a matter of opinion.  I don't think we have done anything that remotely resembles things that China has done concerning its people.
  • crybabylu said on Aug 07, 2008....
there are many things we are lacking in our own country.  we have children that go hungry and we have the homeless.

    This?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush on Monday criticized China, Saudi Arabia and Iran on religious freedoms, but said progress had been made in some countries, including Vietnam.

    Or this?

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Just hours before flying to Beijing for the Olympics, U.S. President George W. Bush on Thursday will use some of his bluntest language yet in publicly pressing China to clean up its human rights record.

Bush, on the eve of the Games' opening ceremonies when the eyes of the world will be on Beijing, is to deliver a speech in Bangkok voicing "firm opposition" to China's detention of dissidents, human rights advocates and religious activists.

    By Matt Spetalnick

    Or this?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush offered a mixed assessment of China's role in the world but said in an interview published on Tuesday it is "important to engage" the Chinese.

In a Washington Post interview, Bush praised China's efforts to curb the nuclear ambitions of North Korea and Iran, but said it is "really hard to tell" whether human rights in China had improved during his eight years as president.

    Beijing: Bush-Dalai Lama meeting negative

    (China Daily/Reuters) | Updated: 2005-11-11

China criticized US President George W. Bush yesterday for meeting the Dalai Lama this week, and dismissed Washington's annual report on religious freedom as groundless.

"The Dalai Lama is not a simple or a pure religious figure. He is a political exile who undertakes secessionist activities abroad," Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said at a regular news briefing. "We oppose meetings between him and other leaders."

Bush's White House meeting with the Dalai Lama on Wednesday came just days ahead of his Beijing visit scheduled for November 19-21.

"Other leaders should not provide a platform for him to separate the country," Liu said.

On Tuesday, the Bush administration, in a report to Congress, labelled China a serious violator of religious freedom along with Myanmar, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Viet Nam, Iran, Sudan, Eritrea and Saudi Arabia.

Liu said the State Department's annual report on religious freedom, which said China restricts religious practice to State-sanctioned groups, made groundless accusations.

"We urge the US Government to stop interfering in China's religious affairs under the guise of the religion issue," Liu said, adding all people in all regions in China enjoy religious freedom in accordance with the law.

But Liu stressed the two incidents would not overshadow Bush's visit to Beijing.

"The importance will not be diminished by a single incident," he said. "The visit will achieve its planned goals."

Undeterred by a 100,000-strong security force in Beijing, small groups of protesters have popped up this week to demonstrate over Tibet, abortion and animal rights.

In the latest, plainclothes security officials dragged away three U.S. Christian activists on Thursday after they tried to protest for religious freedom in Tiananmen Square. And 40 competing athletes petitioned China for peace in Tibet.

Despite saying he was coming for sports not politics, President Bush delivered a speech in Bangkok en route voicing "firm opposition" to China's detention of dissidents, human rights advocates and religious activists.

"The United States believes the people of China deserve the fundamental liberty that is the natural right of all human beings," said Bush, who will meet President Hu Jintao on Sunday.

Beijing defended its record, saying people enjoyed a range of freedoms. But it added a warning: "We resolutely oppose any words or actions which interfere in the internal affairs of another country in the name of issues such as human rights and religion."

Many Chinese have been offended by criticism of their nation ahead of the Games they view as a moment of national glory.

"Through the prism of the international media we are getting a pretty negative impression of China," said John Dewry, at the Asia Society in New York. "People who watch things closely in China will see the real story was the world being a bad guest."

America's Sins are Coming Home to Roost

    By Jo Scott

In America's schools the name of Jesus Christ has been outlawed unless it is used as an expletive, while allegiance to Satan, sex, lies, homosexuality, abortion, suicide and evolution is considered "progressive" and enlightened. God has been thrown out and primordial ooze has been elevated to "creator". There is no longer any thought of one's personal accountability to the righteous and holy God. There are no consequences for sin in this ill-conceived primordial scenario, and therefore, no limitations to what evil can be spun in the mind of the Godless sinner.

    [...]

You have to remember things and people like...

The Great American Streetcar Scandal, the "Iran-Contra affair", the case Nicaragua v. United States, the secret funding of the contras, torture at Abu Ghraib prison, McCarthyism, Pentagon Papers, Tongsun Park "Koreagate" scandal, President George H.W. Bush's (R) pardon of 6 Iran-Contra affair figures, in 1837 the United States Army deliberately infected Mandan Indians by distributing blankets that had been exposed to smallpox, Genocides in the United States of America, in the wake of the Malmedy incident at Chegnogne that on New Year's Day 1945 some 60 German POWs were shot in cold blood by their American guards (unpunished), American food policy in post-war Germany violated international law by directly and indirectly causing the unnecessary suffering and death, from starvation, of large numbers of civilians and POWs in occupied Germany.

China should have never been given the privilege to host the Olympics.

Shelter-why exactly do you hate America so much?  Is there any country in the world that has spotless record?  America has far more positive things on their record than negative but you seem to have this bizarre obsession with highlighting every negative thing.  How sad.  Its also funny you never mention the men, woman, and children planted under the Clinton administration during Waco.

We gave the Olympics to Hitler.  I guess by contrast China isn't the worse nation ever to host the olympics.

entirely ironic that bushbaby is criticising china, while bushdaddy is defending china

they speak out of the side of their mouths and contradict one another because they are heavily invested in china retaining its position. china has become the new 'Wild West' where multi-national corporations can indulge in overt forms of slavery, money laundering, corporate sabotage. China is the head-quarters for the international cartels to blend in to the inhumane landscape and act with very little impunity. this is why google jumped on board so eagerly. Unadulterated Capitalism is a whore - plain and simple.

Sean R, I don't think you understand how many babies are killed each day in the US? We have been pointing fingers while pretending to be different, but we are fast approaching a china style society. Maybe you do not realize that you live in a police state yet.

my daughter just got back from an extensive tour of china and she said that the place is unbelievable. For as much as I hate the corruption in my own government (crybabylu, u and i are in agreement here) china is beyond comprehension! I guess the reason I have such hatred for the corruption in my own gov is because they pretend to be standard bearers of freedom and human rights, when in fact, we have stripped the checks and balances that could have made us world leaders in human rights. China does not pretend to care about its slaves/citizens, so why act surprised. In the US there is a lot of lip service about this when in actuality we are getting closer by the day to china's reality.

  • SeanRenaud said on Aug 07, 2008....
We don't live in a police state, not even approaching one by any realistic standard.  We aren't even similar to the Chinese lifestyle and it's highly unlikely we will ever be anywhere close to China.

Again where are people a freer?  It's like saying we can't claim to be at the cutting edge of technology despite MOST major breakthroughs coming from this nation.  But you know what, we haven't got flying cars in mass production, George Bush didn't built a Deathstar, tsk tsk.

soulless capitalizm trades with nations like china. in the US we were taught to believe in freedom and human rights. however, we are buying their goods en mass because we allow compromise and hopelessness to design our trade laws. Self-sufficiency means not having to patronize communism - we didn't trade with Russia, why China.

If we were smart, we would stop trading with china. Bush only offers empty words while kissing their backside. I am in absolute agreement with crybaby, clean up our own backyard - I believe we have more people in prison per capita than does China. Refer to the story about the Maryland Mayor (house was rampaged, mother and wife bound on the floor while his dogs were shot over suspicion of marijuana!?!) if you do not think we live in a police state.

Compromising our freedom because "its the best we can hope for" is a way of sanctioning corruption that gives the appearance of freedom. Hell, the AMA gets laws passed against alternative medicine that actually works. My own doctor agree's with this observation...what sand are you putting your head into sean? Trained Doctors are even admitting that we live in a police state...yet you deny it...what is your payoff in this denial? I doubt that comparing ourselves to despots and feeling good that our despots are not 'That Bad' makes it all better
  • SeanRenaud said on Aug 07, 2008....
God your a fucking idiot.  Still you actually made something that resembles a solid point even if it is wrong.

"If we were smart, we would stop trading with china."

The fact is that if we put our morals ahead of our well being (short term for certain, long term possibly) we'd stop trading with China.  No nation will ever be self-sufficient again.  That shit just isn't realistic so you can put it right from your head.  It's just a question of if other people need you more than they need you.

Link to the story of a Maryland Mayor and the proof that it was the government.  I call bullshit until and unless.

It is important that you realize that freedom is only an appearance adn that is all it will ever be.  Trained doctors are admiting we live in a police state BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. You are almost to fucking stupid to converse with.   I never said we should compromise our freedoms either.  Nor have I said that America is perfect and is no need of improvement (though to be honest the vast majority of things we seem to have the best system every imagined for) but it's not that we can't get better.  It's the rediculous notion that only a perfect person can criticize another person that I'm attacking here.

It's the basic notion that the two of you are espousing that if I know my neighbor is beating his wife I should do nothing because I've lied in the past, or I've run a red light.  That if I see a woman getting raped I should keep walking because you know I did shop lift when I was twelve.  It's ignorant to such a dangerous degree.

better country. And, from your sweet perch, watch all those that are doing whatever
it takes to get here. The liberal media has fed you gullible twerps so much stupid
crap, you are beginning to just accept it. This is the greatest nation and the best
system on earth, but I fear it will not be for long. The Pepsi generation will fall for
anything. Falling for Pepsi should be a pretty good indication of that. I really think
we are headed for another civil war. Probably the liberal Pepsi drinkers versus the

excuse me for thinking differently and not believing that US is the "greatest" nation and the best system in the world. i personally am not fond of nationalistic urges. this leads to fascism. loving your country does not equal to being a fascist. i, personally, don't believe that any "system" or government necessarily express the people's needs or wishes. but really, when i come across these kind of thoughts, like the belief that US is the greatest nation and the best system, i start laughing hysterically. please don't tell me you are defending a non-sense war, violence and millions of civilians dying. i, personally, hate this war-loving world-view and these "systems" so much that i don't know whom i should be sorry for anymore... i feel really bad for the soldiers and their families as well. but not for mr. bush or his full of shit officials. i don't have a problem with americans, like i don't have any problem with any "people" of this world. politicians, generally, just suck this world's blood. and i think it's really important that everyone starts being much more sceptical and adopt much more questioning attitudes. asking "why does it have to be like this?" or "how can it get better?" or "where did the government do wrong?" may be a good start.
  • ALIENated said on Aug 08, 2008....

I think we all see where the "emptyplaces" are ... between your ears. As I
said, do us all a favor. Find a better place to live and go there. You will not
be missed. I know some people who fought in a war, too -- a war to keep
this country and the world free. Thanks for barfing on their memory. Maybe
you should talk to some of those desperate troops for which you so arrogantly
speak. I was just thinking the other day that no matter what the politicians
were thinking, I was in Vietnam to help keep those people free from
communists like you while the morons back here were undermining what
we were trying to do, and never quite letting us do it. Wars should be
fought to win. So I agree we should pull out if we are not going to try to
win. We have become a nation of whiners and tree huggers. Those other
nations, and people, you so stupidly embrace will gladly come here and
kill us to take what we have. And the strange thing is, the people they
hate most are liberals, people who do not believe in God, people who think
    anything goes.

don't you question my faith and my concept of God and right and wrong.

i will not support war, fuck your war.
and by the way, "tree-huggin" is not that bad. you are not a realist, you are incapable to imagine and think of a better world. it's a shame.

Actually yeah, I did nee to resort to name calling.  The ideas being thrown around here are so stupid that not to make fun of them elevates them to a level of respect they don't deserve.  Somethings cannot be tolerated on any level, like Creationism.  When somebody tells you that evolution is false the only appropriate response is to laugh in their face until tears pour from your eyes.  It's the fact that we've taken them seriously that has allowed them to get the foothold they have.  Inteligent people took them seriously.

A dislike of nationalism is uh dangerous and just keep watching Europe.  If you don't love your country someone will take it away from you.

yes crybaby I like being on any blog with you...got my back sistah?

emptyplaces, it is refreshing to hear some reason with heart...mahalo

I do not wish to get into which country is better etc...its a useless question. I also believe that nationalism blurs reality with arbitrary lines in the sand. If social groups were cohesive they would maintain their culture, which is worth salvaging. Nationalism leads to militarism and the whole world is suffering from that.

Those that believe that the world will ALWAYS be shitty are doomed to have a shitty outlook. I have found a better country its called Hawaii. I have the biggest mote in the world and am helping my family to be self-sufficient, while also helping my larger community become self-sufficient with my reforestation plan. These are very proactive moves we could all make locally as a means of FEELING safe in a terribly self-destructive society that shits in its own water supply. These are not pie in the sky liberal pinko ideas because they are realities that I actually get to live in - not a theory - this is quite REAL and satisfying. To all of you who let hopelessness keep you from designing the future you desire, I feel sad and angry that this mind set assassinates options in the name of being smarter, better, etc...after all that is what the conservative vs. liberal argument is. Nothing more than kindergarteners wasting their time trying to prove they are not dumb, narrow-minded, uninformed or plain wrong. If we could get past this conversation to nowhere, we could begin to act locally - because this is where you get your water. GOT WATER?
  • SeanRenaud said on Aug 08, 2008....

Sean-----How are you defining nationalism???Are you saying that love for country is nationalism???
  • SeanRenaud said on Aug 08, 2008....
That's practically the definition Crybaby.  And when a country loses that spirit it is doomed to cease to exist.  In America we don't have a huge problem with it, most Americans do in fact love America and are nationalist.  The majority are still upset about illegal immigration and are not open borders, the majority believe that if you are in America you should speak English, not Spanish, not Mandarin, not French.

    na·tion·al·ism
1: loyalty and devotion to a nation; especially : a sense of national consciousness exalting one nation above all others and placing primary emphasis on promotion of its culture and interests as opposed to those of other nations or supranational groups.

Alien-they sure are scrapeing the bottom of the barrel for liberals these days.

Empty-I would like to try to understand your logic here, here is a quote from you:

please don't tell me you are defending a non-sense war, violence and millions of civilians dying. i, personally, hate this war-loving world-view and these "systems" "

The war in Iraq was a continuation of the previous Gulf War because Saddam broke the UN deal to disclose, destroy, all prohibited weapons. That was the primary reason.  There are a whole host of other reasons including his two phsycho sons next in line for power, his torture and murder of his own citizens, and the chance Saddam might sell prohibited weapons to terrorists who showed they wanted to kill us all on 9/11, etc etc.

You constantly cry about death and mayham in this war, when the actual war (which has been won) was to liberate millions of people from one of the most brutal regimes in all of history.  You also go on and on about America, a country that has been the greatest source of good for a very long time (not absent from the knowledge we have made mistakes.)  Look at the Nazis, Communism, Terrorism,  and foreign aid, support in times of disaster.  The United States' role in these issues is far above anyone else.

And please....could you point to the people in this country that love war, I'm not seeing any members on my side that love war, so tell me who are these people.

Sean-Evolution is just as wacky and far-fetched as creationism, both are theories.

CB-*sigh* If my comment offended you, you should just call me a prick.  To try to limit someones obnoxious comments tarnishes uncensored blogging.  Do you think Alien was offended when you referred to his supposed "thick head?"

Sean-So it is scientifically proven that if you rewind humankind eventually you will discover the same beings who build Buicks and Skyscrapers were once monkeys or chimps? Wow, and we have the fairy tale.

Evolution just like intelligent design is an opinion, a theory, a stab in the dark to the complexities of exactly how we got here.

  • ALIENated said on Aug 09, 2008....

No, I was not offended. All ALIENs have thick heads. We have to. Who
    wants a soft head anyway?

I heard that human DNA is closest to dog DNA, not monkey DNA. If Man
evolved from monkeys, there would be no monkeys today. Early Man
would have killed them out. However, I do not think it is inconsistent to
believe that there were some sort of apelike people before God created
Adam and Eve, which would explain a lot. And what does it matter?

Evolution and creationism are both based on faith: we will never have a
solid answer. So it boils down to a belief in God or a belief in nothing. As
I always say, I will take the sure bet. Either there is a God and an
afterlife or there is death and nothingness. Those who do not believe in
God simply want a free ticket to do whatever they want in this life
without consequence in the next life. It is really that simple. Jesus told
us how it is, and we can either take it or leave it. Me, I am not a
gambling man. I take the sure thing.

Who said you can't criticize your government Crybaby?  There is a vast difference between criticizing our government and claiming that we have no moral superiority, or even saying we aren't the best (though the best is objective)

Evolution is a theory which means it's pretty much a fact.  You wanna talk about theories being guesses?  Gravity is a fucking theory!  So is fucking relativity, so unless your claiming that Heroshima and Nagasaki are fairy tales.  . .  Nuclear power, yeah that shit didn't happen either.
  • stopmediabias said on Aug 11, 2008....

Gravity is a proven theory.  The logical reasons you can list to prove that gravity exists contain no holes and are fairly clear cut.  Evolution has holes it, in some areas like fossil record, massive holes.  Statistically evolution is impossible.

Evolution is also a well thought out brilliant answer to how we got from way back when to today.  At the same time the inconsistancies, holes in the overall theory, it's founder not really believing it himself, etc.. makes me not 100% toe the line as to answering the question.

  • SeanRenaud said on Aug 11, 2008....
There are inconsistancies in Gravity.  Actually from a purely scientific stand point gravity is less solid a theory than evolution, but of course you knew that.  You knew for example that there is no explanation for why gravity exerts such little force on us and why the universe doesn't collapse in on itself.  You know all about about "dark matter" and the theories around it, and string theory and all the other theories for how the universe functions and how unlike evolution there are actually competing theories in that field.

Evolution doesn't really have holes (and the fossil record doesn't produce holes in evolution anyway, it just means you don't actually have a transitional animal, as if it were that simple anyway.)  Its not like computers where one day they just start using Vista and Pentium Dual Core instead of Windows 98 and Pentium 2.

Vestigal Organs.  Examples of this are hip bones on whales which prove they are decended from land based life forms at some point during their past.

The Human Appendix which is theorized to have once held bacteria helpful in digesting celluous today it pretty much just sits there (unless it gets infected in which case it can kill you but we just yank it out cus it doesn't actually do anything.

There are the so called "super bugs" which are  you know things like penicillian resistant bacteria.

That's just off the cuff without looking stuff up.

There is the progressive complexity of life throughout the eons from simple water based, to land based, to more complex critters.

There are plenty of example of transitional life forms between "monkeys" and men also.  If you are looking for one exact thing you're never going to find it because such a thing doesn't exist.  Evolution is GRADUAL.  Domestic dogs are basically wolves, so close in fact that they can interbreed and produce viable offspring (Which is rare, Lions and Tigers can mate but their young Tigons and Ligers are sterile, much like donkeys and horses produce mules which are also sterile.  And in nature that's a best case scenario.  Dogs and Cats for example simply can't breed.)   But if you were to look for a "transitional" animal between a St. Bernard and a Daschund you'd never find it, you'd just assume they were different species.  This is particularly important because dogs were bred intentionally by humans over the last 12,000 years and presumably some of them were intentionally buried which aids in fossilization.  Not everything, or even most things that die fossilize.  It requires very precise situations.  The same could be said for Danny Devito and Arnold Schwartzenegger, they are the same species but you wouldn't know it by looking at them.

In short what your asking for is almost impossible by design.  Its like claiming that because you can't SEE and atom we didn't drop bombs on Japan.

Micheal Phelps is a great example of evolution

The Urantia book is a huge book about earth and cosmology that details our evolution. It was first published in 1955. since its publication many of its extrapolations were proven and considered "Scientific discovery". This book is the most fascinating read, (it took me 7 years to read it the first time) it says the missing link for the human genome from monkey to man is the Lemur. Makes perfect sense to me.

Micheal Phelps isn't an example of evolution at all.  Not really.  I'm skeptical of lemurs being even really part of the equation, they clearly aren't the missing link as such a thing likely doesn't exist.

I just wrote a post on this that puts out my point of view.  While you are tossing it around try to answer the question: Where are the new species?  Whales have always been whales and random mutations didn't change a single cell to a whole new species of whales.

Clearly it did SMB it doesn't happen over night, if we are using whales for an example though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killer_Whales#Distribution there are at least five distinct breeds of Orca or "Killer" Whale each with unique behaviors, range, even appareance.  So we are watching it happen.

I could also quote Polar Bears and Grizzlies.
