Of course Chavez is a dictator. Anyone who takes the actions within his country that he has done is going down the road to dictatorship.

Not that he's as bad as some, and I personally think that he's all three stooges rolled into one, only with more influence over the masses.

  • D6fer said on Aug 06, 2008....
I think he is taking advantage of the fact that the U.S. has too many Irons in the fire currently....and that no other country will do anything either.....maybe we should just let him be untill he reaches our border....maybe by that time Iran will have taken the middle east, China and Russia will have taken Asia and Europe......won't that be a wonderful world to live in?
  • TinSoldier said on Aug 06, 2008....
Well, I'm not taking him any more seriously than a joke, although he is worth keeping an eye  upon.

Right now the guy has it so that any action taken by the US, real or imagined, plays into his propagandistic hands.

the voice of sanity you are kickingbird the us media is demonizing chavez...not that I agree with his megolomaniac moves in his country, but the CIA did attempt to assassinate him as Pat Robertson openly calling for his assassination. That would make a person pretty reactive...I know that I would start reacting if the CIA was after me!

In his clumsy way Chavez is pointing out our own corruption and denial as he himself falls into the very same pit...The US will not allow socialism in its back yard because they feel threatened by this movement to give land to people who actually work the land, instead of allowing land barons to create a slavery system those of you pointing your fingers at chavez are ignoring the fact that agri-business has replaced the family farm. US citizens are dying and obese because they laid down to agribusiness. Chavez was brilliant when he got rid of land barons. Unfortunately, he has fallen into the pit that all dictators fall into. I understand his land distribution ideals because they are founded in truth and freedom.

The US citizens that think agribusiness and oil cartels are improving their lives are in danger of falling into the propaganda of a soulless big business system that does not give a shit about them - they support a system that has broken the food-chain already as they dodge mad-cow and the various national food-scares we have on a regular basis (some of which are symptoms of corporate sabotage).

I've been watching the gop pundits try to defend the administration and it is obvious that they are at a loss for words as they fruitlessly try to defend a system that would simply dehumanize them and discard them without flinching. Any so-called 'conservative' that defends this admin is not a conservative, more like a neo-con obsessed with world domination. But hey, you can't help it, you were hard-wired to be Alexander the Great! Not that Chavez is an answer to these issues...he is simply reacting to a multinational corporation called the US of A that uses assassination and pre-emptive war while calling itself the standard bearer of human rights. Gawd it is repulsive to listen to willfully ignorant rhetoric!

kickingbird......if you want to post fantasized comments.....do it on your own threads.....I'm not going to have people reading made up crap, made to look like a real article.....even though you said  "It could read".....I know how some dont take the time to see those little details.

Andora....I nearly deleted your post, but I kind of prefer to let socialists like you rant.....people can see them for what they are....a joke......liberalism is a mental disorder....seek help....take kickingbird/sheltercrow/whatever with you he/she/whatever needs help too.

  • andora said on Aug 08, 2008....
I am not a socialist, a liberal, a democrat, a republican, a whatever you want to call me to help you make a pointless statement

threatening to delete peoples pov shows that you have no argument whatsoever

it is not a socialist idea to take those who work the land out of a slavery system, it is actually productive and humane...something fake conservatives have little interest in...

A true conservative is open to productivity and fiscal sanity

prior to the fall of Rome, many senators were freeing their own slaves and bequeething land to them to farm simply because the senators knew that those who grow food from their own land have a better quality of produce and a much higher yield. This move threatened those senators that did not want to give land to slaves for farming - Rome collapsed - the US has many of the same problems that Rome had and unfortunately, people like you D6fer do not wish to learn from history as much as you swing upon the coat tails of power.

Agribusiness is making the breadbasket of the world a toxic slough...
  • D6fer said on Aug 08, 2008....
Andora....who the hell is a slave in this country?....unless you mean all of those that are on welfare and dont want off! They are enslaved to liberal socialists like the representatives you help elect.

Rome fell because of liberalism.....it is a metal disorder.

andora, nobody with 2 brain cells to rub together gives a damn what that moron pat robertson says. :>

Pat Robertson broke hate laws, while Gonzo Gonzales dismembered our Judicial system and no one seems to care...let's impeach the guy for getting head but we'll have no problem with the guy that trashes our constitution, tortures whoever he wants, creates clandestine prisons, kills innocent people, strands his military as he says he supports them, lied to everyone about Iraq and no one seems to care. Am I missing something here?

How can you make any sense out of this ed?
  • andora said on Aug 13, 2008....
    D6fer,
the only reason our border laws were not enforced was because big agribusiness was retooling our farm system and refused to include a living wage. So they look the other way as millions swarm into our economic structure getting free infrastructure, school, medical etc., while being kept on permanent illegal status. The status of these workers leaves them vulnerable to anyone that wants to screw with them. You know this, yet you look the other way and cry about welfare mothers. Our infrastructure has crystalized an uneducated underclass while dehumanizing them and blaming them for everything under the sun. Meanwhile fat cats steal from corporations by the billions each and every year.
  • andora said on Aug 13, 2008....
And you twisted my meaning about rome

Rome fell because of power brokers that insist on endless slavery

funny how you blame it on the progressive senators that understood the underlying problem and were willing to do the right thing. The neo-cons would rather destroy their own people rather than evolve.

before you say evolution is only a theory, let me point out Micheal Phelps
  • D6fer said on Aug 13, 2008....
Those illegals can leave when ever they please....they are not entitled to a damn thing!

I can remember growing up in this farming community that I live in now......People came from Mexico every year to pick the fruit.....they were happy....they were making far more money than they could dream of in Mexico.....most of it was sent back home, and when the season was over, they left.
Now since the liberals gave them everything, they don't want to leave...they have a sense of entitlement.....Bush is dead wrong when it comes to this issue.

Oh....and by the way...as far as a living wage goes for picking fruit.....I have known many pickers that could make a damn good wage for a days work....they were paid for production and they did a great job......if all jobs paid based on quality and production, we would have no debt....and....no competition.
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 19, 2008....
    andora: o, i'm in agreement. :>

d6: what precisely is the "damn good wage for a days work" that a picker could make? how many years of experience do they have?

    ed
  • RollingC said on Aug 20, 2008....
D6 - Yep, there's plenty of illegals that technically are not entitled to a damn thing as they're not part of the legal system and even though most of them (that's right, most) are here just to work to improve their lives and their loved ones back home, enough of them have come here with the sole purpose of exploiting the laws and resources of this country to give the rest a bad name.
I've known enough to know that the great majority of them are hard workers with no intention of exploiting, just to get ahead and have a better future.
There's enough bad apples to give the rest of the group a bad name and it's a shame that the laws haven't adapted/changed to give temp. visas to people like that. A simple background check system can be set up by any embassy to filter out most of the bad apples and there would be an added tax revenue in it for the goverment that would make it a worthwhile project.
It's a topic for long conversation.  The laws have been ignored or bent for so long that now it's a crisis.
    My humble opinion....

ed....how about in the neighborhood of 150 to 200$ a day? do the math.

RollingC......if they are illegal, they all give themselves a bad name.....illegal is bad remember?
  • RollingC said on Aug 21, 2008....
True that illegal is bad (as in breaking the law) but let me tell you if the shoe was in the other foot....meaning if it was me with none or at least not enough money to feed my family.  Rather than see them starve to death or suffer extreme poverty I'd be an illegal too, jump the border, get a job and find a way to send money down to my needy relatives.

The making of temporary work visas, like the migrant farmers but making it migrant workers instead, would cut down considerably on " illegals " and at the same time generate income in the way of fees and taxes. IMHO

d6: well, that doesn't mean much without knowing the purchasing power: in some areas, that's a decent wage; in others, it's crap. ?

  • D6fer said on Aug 21, 2008....
that is good here ed.....a 2 bedroom apartment rents for about 500 to 750 here

Rolling....I don't blame the illegals for coming here....I blame our government for not stopping them.....and I agree on the work visa thing.
