i zonked out really early last night: it must've been before 10 that i put away the glasses and fell asleep. i was awake at one point when it was dark out but rolled over & went back to sleep, then next thing i know, i'm fully awake, and it's 6ish.

i actually got around 8 full hours of sleep instead of being woken at 4-5 or so for the first time in i don't even know how long.

and because i usually have to start my day around 7 or so, this means i have little time to catch up here on SC.

the car repairs, as i mentioned, proved to be more expensive than i would have liked so it's gonna be rough going for a bit.

hm...this coming weekend, we're going to my wife's mother's family reunion. it's quite a ways, but we bagged out of the last one and there've been a few deaths in the family in the past few years so more people are making the effort to attend. there's also an unspoken sense nowadays that for the older family members, each reunion might be their last, sadly.

my MIL's family is deeply religious and doesn't approve of alcohol. i mention this b/c the mrs and i will be cutting short our visit to the reunion to attend a wine festival. :D

i'm around 2 days behind on my users so bear with me guys, i'm getting there slowly but surely!

Family reunions are way more fun than funerals Ed.  Go and enjoy.  Family reunions can also be a bit of putting so the wine festival will be a perfect wind down.  Have a few sips for me.

    ed,

Sounds like it could be fun.  Keep us posted on the reunion arena.  Have a sip for me too.

Ed- Perhaps you should put some thought into what made you get that eight hours. Maybe then you could make it a regular thing, you insomniac.

I got out of going to my wife's mother's birthday party this year, but family reunions I generally like. Everyone is happy, food is good, and my wife's family performs (music and singing). Both sides are great storytellers too.

Family reunions are a mixed bag.  (much like families)  There are some neat aspects and cool people and then there are the others.  Not having alcohol at the reunion is plain foolishness in my book.  Perhaps they're worried that they are a bunch of mean drunks ;)

You'd like my dad's family's gatherings a lot more, I think! ;-) They have several coolers set up outdoors and usually at least two ABC store runs in there somewhere.

It sounds like fun anyway. :) I hope you guys have a good time when the day rolls around (is it just me, or is this week dragging? :-p). And holy wow on the sleep, my insomniac friend. Nice!

Family reunions can be lots of fun...enjoy.  Even without the wine or beer.  And going to the wine festival can be even more fun !  ☺
Hope you have a good one.

Oh, Ed you need to catch up! There is exciting things going on in SC pages. Well, at least in my world.

This weekend...absolutely nothing. I won't be going anywhere or doing anything. I get to slow down and take it easy.

Hope you can get the car repairs done and out of the way soon.....

We had a family reunion (hubby's side, of course) recently here at our home.  It was nice that people were together that hadn't seen each other for awhile, and we made plans for a Christmas gathering.  But the wine festival does sound more like the ticket!

I need to "zonk out" myself, but it's hard to make yourself until the body says, "Enough!"  I try to squeeze as much living as I can into a day.

I definitely understand where your wife's family is coming from--we hadn't had a reunion for years, and my grandma's death was the reason we did it this year.  So many of the past attendees are gone now.  :(

Have fun at the reunion and wine-festival!  The only thing on my calendar is a mandatory two-hour soccer skills evaulation on Saturday afternoon.  My eight-year-old has moved up to a different age group this year, and she's never had to do anything like this before, so we're not sure what to expect.

    Ed,
I have several relatives who are older and every event 'may be their last'.  It's a heavy mantle to live under and visit under.

That aside...I always right for just me (even though I LOVE comments).  But there is nothing more worrysome or irritating to me than to think someone is reading my stuff because they have to.  Take it easy, man.  All this should be fun, not a chore.  And if you have to skip a little (or a lot) do it without regrets.

I guess it's the same thing about family re-unions.  Go because you want to, and to have a good time.  Not because you have to.  Trust me, if the memories you have of a relative are not good or non-existant than the family reunion is not the place to fix it, improve it, ect.  (I would, however, get names and numbers to improve relations at a later, more sedate, pace.  Or, better yet, take an autograph book and extra pens with you.  That way you can get people to write in their own information.)

    Big hugs, be safe.

botoni: i don't mind going to the reunion--they're good people, and with a few exceptions (what family doesn't have those?), i like spending time with 'em, fortunately! :> sadly, i'm not sure we'll attend the wine festival though: the temptation to buy altogether too much wine will be quite high...

    day2day: i'm sure it'll be fun! :>

beyond: thing is, i don't know what i did differently! and i'm glad your family reunions are that much fun!

u-i: heh...OTOH, in some families, a reunion's an instant fight, just add alcohol! :D

infernal: weirdly, this week just flew for me--i can't believe it's already friday! but yeah, the sleep was a welcome surprise!

rollingc: thanks, man! i think it'll be fun too. i'm just looking forward to tomorrow night: hotel rooms tend to bring out our naughty side... :D

vm: well, it seems to me that slowing down for you right about now is just what the doctor ordered! :>

wombat: the repairs fortunately were done quickly--just expensively, into the bargain. ah, well...btw, was reading a recent issue of consumer reports, which touts the advantages of sound machines that create white noise to help you sleep. i may need to look into that...

    sis: we will, thanks!

eilan: i'm sure your daughter will do fine at the skill evaluation! and i'm sorry about the losses in your own family, of course. :<

sammies place: nice to see you again! about soulcasting: i read because i want to, never because i feel that i have to, so don't worry. :> and the reunion will be fine, i'm sure--but i'm gonna need the drive to make sure i know who's related how. :>
