This morning I called Walmart to renew my perscription.  I talked to the woman on the phone about their "new" 90 day plan.  Yes, I can get that too.. all well and good.  When will my perscription be ready.. "in an hour you can pick it up".  Oh, good.
So, I wait and did some other errands and then went to Walmart which I dread at that time of the late morning downtown because it is always so busy in that parking lot.  I just hate the hassle.
I had a few pictures to develop also so I went to the photo center first and did that, then went and got a few other items.  I then proceeded to the pharmacy.. (well over an hour now)
Your name, your birthdate.. bla bla bla... "oh its not ready"
I say "What???  I called it in and you said an hour, its been over an hour!"
"you called it in?"
"YES"
"well it usually takes 2 hours"
"THE LADY I TALKED TO SAID ONE HOUR"
"well, its in the line, and it will be  ah, . .. about 20 minutes"
"The person I talked to said ONE hour, that is why I shopped FIRST"
"sorry..... it will be about 20 minutes"

What the hell is with THAT????  I can tollerate some things, but today I was in no mood to deal with those people who think all I have is time to waste waiting for them.  I was so pissed.  I went and complained.  Something I never do.  I even rolled my eyes at the customer service person who said she'd talk to the manager.  I said "yeah, right, like talking to the air".  I think I may have set her day up well too!
Can't help it ... an hour is an hour... I have better things to do.. like go to work.  Morons.
Good thing I got my bloodpresure perscription filled... I think I needed it!!

quiet- I do little as possible at Walmart anymore. It seems the most difficult thing is getting out of that store. Usually its no checkers. All my pharmacy comes from Albertson's. They say fifteen minutes every time and its always ready if you are there or want to pick it up.

beyond ~ when I was out in WA I did shopping at Albertsons too.  I think the $4 perscription plan has a lot to do with Walmart and going there.  I usually use my mail order plan that I get through work, but this is cheaper at Walmart.  I guess I was having a "bad day" but ... still...  LOL

Quiet - I can see why you would be annoyed.  They shouldn't quote people a certain amount of time if they are unsure.  I would rather be told what to expect - like, we're really busy, 2 or 3 hours.

It was inconsiderate - your time is just as valuable as theirs.

Hope the rest of your day went better - Wishy

Good for you for taking a stand!  An hour is an hour.  I guess they think an hour is a ballpark figure when they don't have to worry about it.  I especially hate waiting somewhere like the pharmacy---not knowing if it will be "just a minute" or if you wander around, they will call you and you are off reading magazines somewhere....
  • wishyouwerehere said on Aug 04, 2008....
Too bad you didn't ask for the person's name - then you could have confronted them when it was more than an hour.  Of course, I wouldn't have thought of that until after reading this story, but it taught me a lesson for the future!

Sounds like the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing.

The medical facility that my family and I use has its own pharmacy, and that's the one I normally use because it's convenient.

I get my prescriptions at Wal Mart too.  I reorder through their automated phone system.  I don't even try to go pick them up until the next day or so.  I find they are usually ready when I go after them.  If I order Monday morning, the automated system says something like "You can pick up your prescriptions anytime after 10:00 a.m.  Tuesday.  If you need a quicker pick up time, please press blah, blah, blah."  Nine times out of ten they are waiting for me when I do it that way.

Did you get any satisfaction from the manager?

    Sorry to hijack this blog

    BUT!!

Eilan: is that from an Agatha Christie novel? I swear I just read that!!

It is so frustrating when you are tired and waiting, waiting, waiting, for drugs that you wish you didn't have to take anyway. Does that $4 thing work well? I am thinking of using that service when I retire in December.
  • quietone said on Aug 04, 2008....
wishy ~ I am usually not this bold and just "wait".. but today wasn't a good day for the receiver of my mood!  If they had said 2 hours, so be it.. ya know.  I didn't have to ask for the womans name as she was there when I went to pick up the prescription. The thing of it is, if I had just gone there... in person no phone call, it still would have been 20 minutes.. so whats the point of calling??

wombie ~ I hate waiting for stuff like that. I am not a patient person anyway.

Eilan ~ I usually use my mail order which is perfect, I call or do it on line and is shows up in my mailbox.. this one is cheaper at walmart though.

CW ~ I will keep that in mind next time.  The thing is I was totally out and needed them that day.  No, I didn't stay around to see if the mgr did anything.  I did meet her as I was walking away with my perscription.  I didn't say a word... neither did she.  ha!

tbs ~ ha, not to worry...... funny how things like that happen huh?.. the saying not the hijack.. hehe

woman ~ I think the $4 thing works well.  Its not all drugs, but they have a list I think.  The Dr. knew these would be $4 there.. I even saved more with the 90 day plan.. it cost me $10 woo hoo!!  not bad!  wish I was retireing in Dec.  I got 7 more years give or take.  :(

tbs: It's one of those phrases I've always used.  I have no clue where it originated.

I go with CW's comment.  If I need to get it at Walmart or CVS then I'll try to give them the prescription and pick it up next day if I can.  I've never used the phone system.
And some medication I still go to the small mom & pop pharmacy from the old neighborhood.  They know me from years back and I get better service from them but I'll call it in and they have it ready for me. It's faster that way.

oh crap i hate that when that happened... hope your okay now...
  • MissMimi said on Aug 05, 2008....

Aw, quilty, what a hassle.  I'm glad you let them know that you were unhappy with their "service".  My pharmacy refills my prescriptions automatically if I have refills left.  All I have to do is pick it up the next day.

walmart and whatnut, we build up prisons for people to go in and shop. to waste time. unexpected amount of time. we employ other people to work in them all day. they become something else, lose touch with their humanness and become somewhat like zombies. it is this system friends. we are human beings and we made this system. then people get mad and angry over some stupid thing. it's really bad. anyway, quietone, i think it's always good to stand up for yourself. i think you did just fine.

Quiet:  I could NEVER imagine you getting so ticked off!  I fly off the handle when dealing with prescriptions though.  My beef is with my doctor that "forgot" to call it in, or, goes on vacation and has her covering doctor out on vacation too.  NOT GOOD for someone with anxiety!!!

I'm betting the manager was like "yeah....and?" if she even told him!

I hate it too when people don't stick to promised time. It is a disease of the modern times.

Invite people at a certain time for a party or function and see how late they turn up.  They think it is fashionable to turn up late. Just shows lack of respect for other people's time.

  • quietone said on Aug 05, 2008....
RC ~ I am sure going to do just that next time I am almost out.. I will call them a day before.  Ha, they will probably remember me!  "the wacko" just called!  haha.  No, I imagine they get a few people like that.  I think we only have one mom & pop pharmacy left here in my town, thats sad.

queenie ~ yes, I am okay.  I am glad I don't feel that kind of anger all the time.. I wouldn't like myself much!!

Meems ~ that is great service!  My mail order one will leave me an email when its time to refil.. thats better then nottin' ~

empty ~ I do feel badly for some of those "zombie" workers in those chain dept. stores.  They deal with some pretty wacko people on a daily basis.  But, they took the job, knowing that this is what they'd deal with.  But, thanks, I don't usually spak up like that.

daily ~  I can get ticked off.. but usually just keep it to myself and walk away.  But, it was just the right day and the wrong mood!  And, I also have had the problem when you really need to speak to your Dr.  they are out of the office, I hate that!

scipio ~ I don't know who come up with that "fashionably late" thing but I agree, to me it shows little respect for the host/hostess.  I am very punctual and also hate to wait for people.

I probably would have said something ignorant like  . . . oh so now I see why you're all going union. But I think two weeks vacation time is a bit much for one years seniority.   Once that rumor would take off maybe we would see 50 inch HD tv's going out the door for $ 50.00 ?
  • one_wired_kitty said on Aug 05, 2008....
I usually don't make a big deal out of it.
  • quietone said on Aug 05, 2008....

Cman ~ ah, a good one.. I will have to keep that one under my hat for the next time! LOL

kitty ~ that was me a couple of years ago too.  I guess I have become one of those "old bitties" that the younger generation complaines about LOL.. well I have earned it I guess!  hehe

  • one_wired_kitty said on Aug 05, 2008....
Another 20 minutes hasn't killed me yet. Besides - it gives me time to get more shopping in .... ROFL
  • quietone said on Aug 05, 2008....
kitty ~ I really think that is their plan anyway.. to keep you in the store so you spend money on things you don't really need!!!
  • one_wired_kitty said on Aug 06, 2008....
    Probably ... but it's fun.
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 06, 2008....
quietone: that blows! sadly, i guess that the default answer (1 hour) isn't always right and the employees don't bother checking on whether or not it is. gr...that always irritates me too when my carefully-constructed timetable cannot be honored.

so how long did did it take? was it just the extra 20 mins or something else

    ed
  • quietone said on Aug 08, 2008....
ed ~ it was about 15 minutes or so.  But that would have been the normal time to wait had I not called... about 20 minutes.. so whats the point in calling ahead I guess!  I won't next time.
