John: It was right on time, wasn't it?
Joanne: "Right on time"?
John: yeah: you said that the two... your daughter and her.. thing there- have a
need for some major upheaval: every 6 weeks or so: you know... either
a fight: which results in arrest or contact with authorities/ as well as major
or minor injuries... or a move: complete change of surroundings... or-
some form of major -- event. To break the boredom.
Joanne: yes, well, I suppose it is a problem with lots.. the majority of people.
most people identify with "holidays"... and "holidays" are.. rememberances
of times, or moments: when.. major events or upheavals took place:
I guess it fills the emotional need we all have.. one way or another.
John: Remember, you were asking as we headed down the road: and were
realizing that today is Sunday "= no heavy trucks roaring by/throwing stones
and dust and noise and gravel...etc" ... and you thought -"I wonder whether
the animals ever care about a day being a "Sunday"... in the way some humans
do... religious conviction and all of that...
Joanne: yes, well: I know that many animals are aware of when hunting season
begins. and they know which properties are protected: and which are not.
as to Sundays: variations in traffic patterns and the presence of humans
at home... or their movement to camps... I am sure the animals make mark
of those distinctions.
But it is that... space : the whole feeling of... you know-
the difference between the man who gets up, showers, and dresses and drives
to church... (and I barely have the strength to even THINK about what women do:
dressing and organizing all the children, and themself, and the right clothes for
the man... have the afternoon feast simmering in the oven,.. the house having been
prepared in spotless wonder... all laundry cleaned, dried, folded, and stashed..
ironing (where applicable).... and the car vacuumed and washed,... and ...
it is no wonder I have a problem with "church".. like my mom said: "Sunday is a
day of rest for the man:- - - and she was chided for sewing (which was an activity she
enjoyed- - ) on a Sunday.... she was not allowed or supposed to do that: - but, it was
ok for mom to have to cook all day... and serve and all that...
and of course, sundays and holidays are double or triple duty for the women: but
a man who "Works"... on a day like that: gets extra pay. Woman gets none.
Usually not even a "thank you".
John: I have taught you well, I see.... you are holding your thoughts much better
these days.
Joanne: yeah, well.... yes.
John: oh, and as you were saying..."sewing... was something your mom enjoyed..."
and I thought.. "It is just like sex. Everyone wants it, and most everyone does it
at one time or another... and many do that more than others... and all... and, it
is like... ok - you can have sex: as long as you do not enjoy it. you know.. the
rules and regulations that 'sanitize' the activity for the 'morally best' people...
Joanne: and that brings us to the loop about.. all the abundance of negative and derogatory
generic names that exist for women: but men who do the same and worse things are
exhonerated for their actions. It is what makes them a 'real man' or a 'man's man'.
John:well, it is like you said.. that thing about "balance"... you know- the natural balance of
the universe... all things... or whatever... you have this grand.. agrandizing of males
for their sexual prowess.... and the utter humiliation and defamation of the female:
Joanne: I guess that has something to do with "Who's 'on top'..."- - -
John: Which is really all that ever REALLY matters... to men. ;(
(..or as your dad would say:"..which is a problem neither you nor I am going to be
able to solve here tonight.)
