I read about this story yesterday.  It appears to be an act without provocation, which totally stuns me.  I can't imagine how someone who was apparently behaving normally one minute becomes a derranged killer the next.  I can only imagine what would have happened if the bus had been more full or the killer had escaped.  It just makes no sense.

For those of you unable to use the link, a man who had been peacefully riding the bus for over an hour suddenly turned on his seat mate, stabbing him to death.  After the driver and other passengers fleed the bus and locked him in, he decapitated his victim.  There was no altercation between the killer and his victim.  The killer appeared to be calm and methodical as he continued to dissect the body before police arrived.

I just don't get it.  I'm sure as shit not going to ever ride the bus.

unique- I guess the guy lost all touch with reality and succumbed to his dark side. I'm curious as to what he told police, if anything.

BTV - I have a sneaking suspicion he hasn't said much.  The follow up about his first court appearance said he didn't enter a plea, which is never a good sign.  I just cannot understand how you go from normal to cold blooded killer in an hour.

This horrible incident shocked me to no end.  The first thing I thought of was a book a had read about "remote control" mind control and this kind of violence, but I can't remember the book off hand.  Anyway----he had the knife on hand.  It had to be rather premeditated to some extent---then he picked a victim I suppose?  Too  horrible to begin to understand.

U-I : you probably don't (go from normal to killer in an hour).  People can hide some really dark stuff while still acting normal.  Ever hear of someone committing suicide and friends and family had no clue anything was even wrong?  The "normal" is a mask or an act.  My guess is that this guy has some kind of mental derangement but was able to "play along" until the moment came to act.

Of course they will in a politically correct big government fashion impose screening, i.d requirements, checks, etc. instead of keeping those people out of society by removing them before they do something and placing them in jails and institutions or giving them mandatory treatment.  They continue to deny a right to self-defense and do not have a policy of refusing questionable bus riders on demand by the driver.  It is not necessary to harass and hold up the average bus passenger.  Common sense would take care of this situation.

wombie - I hadn't even thought to wonder why he had the knife with him.  Yes, this changes how I see it.  I'm less inclined to think he just flipped out.

nytquill - that's scary.  Now you have to wonder which of the normal acting people is really a psycho killer just waiting to act out.

cotter- but he wasn't a problem when he initially boarded.  Even at the rest stop there were no indications that he would be violent.  Even during the slaying he seemed calm.  There's no way to screen for a first time killer who appears normal.

I was going to post this story the other day too after wombie had mentioned it to me.... seems this world has really gone crazy.  :(

SW - that was my first thought.

quietone - I waited until the killer was arraigned.  It was like I couldn't believe it was real.

UI ~ I found it hard to believe... still do.  Its more like something you'd see in a horror movie.  I think this is where some of these crazies get their wacko ideas from to be honest.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Aug 03, 2008....
quietone - yes, it does seem like an Alfred Hitchcock kind of thing.  That crazies use this kind of thing as "fodder" for thought is even more frightening.
