I hate to ask such dumb questions, but here goes:

I already have Firefox on my opening screen as an option, but have still been using IE browser and Yahoo as my home page--out of fear of losing what is familiar to me.  I only click on Firefox to use the search tab, and always click "no" when asked if I want to make it my home page.  My question is....

If I click "yes" will I still have IE and Yahoo to go to if I choose to when I first turn on the computer?  All my familiar stuff is there.....email, local weather, news, horoscope, radio.....you probably know what that page looks like.  Will all that stuff appear on  my new browser home page?

There are so many options to choose from to set up Firefox, but for example, it says G-mail--which I don't have.  All my addresses and saved emails are on yahoo!

Any comments or advice is welcome.  I am a computer phobe who once lost her old email address and everything with it.  People asked me, "How could you do that?"  I don't know, but it's been gone for over a year--ever since I was playing around trying to upload photos from MySpace and created an account to get in to flickr.  I went to my home page and got this:

Welcome to Yahoo!  Everything I had familiar was gone and I was a "new person."

What will happen if I choose "yes" and make Firefox my home page? IE won't disappear from my computer will it? Please don't get too technical if you comment.  I am like a 3rd grader on instructions!

Thanks!

good luck, wombie, I amd sure there are many people here that can help.  I have a problem dealing with "new" on here too.  I think you'd still have the option of IE but it just would not be a home page..but don't take my 3rd grade level word on that! haha......off to work ~

quietone:  Hope you are right.  It sounds logical, but I am not a logical person....ha.  I would still want my old email for certain.  Would I have to add my addresses all over again myself, I wonder?

Firefox is a pretty cool browser although sometimes I get some kinks in it I think because I put too many add-ons and whatchamaycallits on it.  I'm thinking that maybe I'll delete it and install it again but just the plain Jane version.
I am no expert I assure you so please take anything I say with a grain of salt (and pepper).

I E (internet explorer) is another browser (Microsoft I believe).
Two distinct browsers and the home page on one doesn't necessarily have to be the same as on the other.

That applies to your settings also...like mail etc. I try not to download anything (like mail) any more like I used to and I check the mail on the internet.  If something has a virus (even though I have anti-virus) I prefer it on the internet and the carrier's anti-virus is better than mine I'll bet any day of the week & twice on Sundays.

That's about the extent of my knowledge base (heh) and since I have comcast I let the service technician sweat it out when it comes to anything complicated 'cause I'll just screw it up even more.

Hope that helps in any way....

Thanks....so I assume it means, when I turn on my computer to the front page of log-on options (where my background image is)  I can still choose Internet Explorer, and it will take me to my home page of yahoo, with nothing missing?  Even if I had gone to Firefox and clicked yes to make it my home page?  See, I just don't get that....I am sorry.

I mean, if I do click yes to make it my home page....can I still choose either Firefox or IE off my background opening page?

This is such a dumb question, but I can't help it....ha.

(all those add ons made my head spin....I did click on a few things and they are in my toolbar now, such as CNN----and oh, I see I have "search your Yahoo mail from Google.")

Thanks, but I will just let my head spin a bit longer....Ha....!

Okay let me see if I understand correctly. You can use any browser you want to get anywhere on the web. So if you used Firefox, you can still login to your Yahoo account and have that be set as your home page. By default, when you first download Firefox, it has their website set as the home page. But you can change it to anything you want. Just type in the address of Yahoo and go to the top of your Firefox program where it says 'Tools' Then click down to 'Options' Then 'Main'. And choose to set the current page as your homepage.

Then whenever you open Firefox, it'll be opened to whatever page you specified. And if Yahoo comes up, but none of your personal stuff is there, just choose the option to login. Sometimes it logs you out and gives you a generic page. But nothing is lost. You just have to login again and it'll all be there.

As for losing IE, you won't. You can run as many different browsers as you want to. And you can set any of them to be default browser, but it won't get rid of the others. So if you set FIrefox as your main browser, any time you click a link, it'll open in Firefox. But if you want to use IE, you just open IE and use it.

I hope this helped and I answered your question. Let me know if you need more help.

evil twin:  Thank you, too.  All that makes sense--I just don't know why I am so dense with these things!  I will experiment later and see what happens.

Thanks again, and you also, RollingC!

You can have 5 different browsers set to 5 different home pages. It won't affect anything.

silverwhisper:   Still haven't made it my "home page."  I don't get it.  But I did notice that if you log onto Firefox and search for SC, when I get on there, it looks alot better and seems more "modernized."  That's as far as I have gotten.  I am not on the bandwagon yet, but am tired of the old ruts.

    gotta' jump sometime.........
