I have always been active.  I love sports and outside activities.  I have never had a broken bone and always thank God as I am riding my bike that I am able to move without pain.

Well tonight, my high school tennis partner and I decided to get out and play.  (We were tennis partners 30 years ago....we always laugh our first time out each summer......yelling to each other, hey do you even know how to play this game...you are looking good for a BEGINNER.  )  We were just getting into our groove when whamo.....I went down.  I have never twisted, sprained, or broken anything.  I felt my ankle twist and turn in two different directions.....I screamed and down I went.    Lucky for me that I had brought a bottle of frozen water.   So my friend came running towards me and I yelled get my ice.   I took off my shoe and we watched the ankle get big.

So here I sit on my deck......two motrins in me and an ice pack on the ankle....and I am pissed.  I hate getting old.

I will baby it for a few days but then my body better not fail me and get better.  I swear I am going to be back on the courts by next week.   I refuse to give into this age crap....lol.

Hope all is well in your world.
Jen

jenna- I don't think you're getting old at 32, I think you had an accident.

Take it from someone who...well...knows what they're talking about. You will know when you're getting old. Heal well, you'll do fine.

Beyond.....I am still 32 in my mind.   But my body isn't buying it...lol.  Thanks for the support!

You are as old as you feel !  Good thing it's not  as old as you look (LOL) for as you get older you still feel young if you're young at heart but looks will give you away as time is unrelenting.
I think you're doing great just don't overdo it.
I got myself a stationary bike couple of years ago and now I'm starting to use it regularly.  No fixed schedule yet but do use it every day and I feel the difference in the legs already.
Hope you are well my friend and don't kill yourself out on the court. My brother played tennis for many years (as a hobby sport and he was even the team captain) but he's had to give it up because of the knees.
    Be well,
    :^)

I am more like 52, but try to be 32.  In my mind I am 22, and in my actions, I am sometimes 12....

(My elderly mom told me one time that she just didn't understand it----she still felt 18 inside)

Lob one over the net for all of us!

i did the sprained ankle thing when i was 42.
it was the first time i ever broke/sprained anything in my life.

since then i've sprained it twice more just WALKING- missing a curb once, and just a mis-step the other time.

once you mess up your ankle, it's always going tobe a weak spot.

when the swelling goes down, head to the nearest drug store and buy yourself a brace.  they sell them especially for the ankle.  use it the whole week whenever you walk. and ice as much as you can take it for the next 24 hours.   the first time i did it, it took about 3 or 4 weeks to heal.  i wore that brace the whole time!

    feel better.

awww i hope it heals soon jenna...

Sprained ankle. Pls get your self checked.  As you grow old  - healing process slows down and could complicate the issue. Better safe than sorry. No point in proving yourself less than your age. After all you will only have to bear the pain.

That doesn't sound like getting old. I know junior high kids who hobble around with injuries like that. I did a number on my ankle a few months ago. It wasn't as bad as yours but I felt it for two months each time my foot tilted to the outside a bit. Take care of it and then get your buns back into action. Hope you'll be clubbing the balls soon. (Better than balling the clubs anyway, right?)

have I mentioned how great it is to see you posting? Feel like a long lost friend has swept into town!
Sorry about your ankle...I am so stiff today from just throwing out trash that I will need some of that motrin. If you are 32 then I am 31, so there.
I bet your tennis partner had a blast getting on you for the injury...last I saw her she said:
"are you damn happy to be alive? well then drink the damn beer!"

    Now that is love, love.

Secret is right. Once your ankle is injured it will remain weak. Please make sure it heals before trying to go ahead full stream. And yes. Getting old is not my idea of a good time!
  • gingersoul said on Jul 30, 2008....
    Jenna.......old?....who is getting old???
    Not you, lady...
Get back on those heels and star kicking asses again..lol..

This is not your body slipping away.....its just a stupid accident..ankles are prone to twist and break...
So dust the mind from this silly thoughts and have another set ....or a younger lover.....they do miracles......mmmm......lol...

awe, sorry to hear about your ankle Jenna.  I hope it heals quickly, but yes, unfortunately, it will probably be weak for a very long time.  I would hate to see it get injured further by bucking age! LOL.  I agree, you are only as old as you feel... even if the body is fighting you every step of the way!!  Wait til you get as old as me!!! ha!!! in my mind I am still 32 also.  :)

[passes Jenna a bag of frozen peas and some chocolate]

I'll echo what Secret said.  Ice and an ankle brace.  Last time I twisted my ankle it was because I fell out of the wheelchair -- how dumb is that?!

It's just one of life's insults that in our minds, we still feel like a kid, and then when we stand up, the knees and the hips pop and remind us that that time marches on.  It sucks.

Hope you heal up quickly, Jenna.  :)

Hey RC.....good to see you and I remember you telling me about your stationary bike.  Why not get an outdoor one and find some trails.  I tell you, it is good for your soul.

Wombie....isn't it funny how the body keeps getting older but our mindset doesn't seem to match up.  Thanks for checking in.

Secret.....I remember you telling the story about your ankle.  I am sure once weakened it is always vulnerable.  Now get this one.....I was in a meeting all day and decided to stop at CVS on the way home to pick up and ankle brace.  While there, I picked up some make up....I am almost out,  Some travel size tolietries,  a magazine, oh saw some coffee.....I remembered I am out of coffee.  Came home...NO ankle brace.  Now I know that is NOT a sign of getting old.  lol

    queenie...thanks sweetie

scipio......It feels much better today, I once again have ice on it.  Thanks!

Hey hottie......thanks for making me feel better.  LOL at balling the clubs.

Mams....actually tennis partner is quite caring and was really concerned.  I do remember that concert we all went to when she made her famous comment.  I still laugh when I think of that night.  Good luck with the house stuff.  xo

woman....I will baby it, but I so impatient, but I will try.  Thanks!

ginga....give me a moment lady and I will be right back out there kicking some ass.  And so please do tell.....about your advice....a younger lover.....Hmmmmm...something you wish to share?????

hey quiet....thanks for checking in.  Don't cha just hate the way the body keeps fighting our mind?  Nice to see you Q.

Mimi.....I laughed at the peas.....because when I looked in the freezer last night to find my ice pack...(which was not there because daughter left it somewhere....but that is a whole different story.)  I saw a bag of raviolis that I thought would work well.  Nice to see ya mims.....thanks!

    Jenna.....you are a stinker....it's all i can say......for now at least....;-P
  • Alyss said on Jul 30, 2008....
Take it easy Jenna, ankle injuries take a goodly while to heal properly and sadly are never quite the same so do be careful and rest it now.
  • secretlife said on Jul 30, 2008....
    ok, i'm laughing!
    everything but the brace?
go back tomorrow for JUST that brace.
    honest it'll help.
  • Jenna said on Jul 30, 2008....
Ok gingergirl.......you don't need to say anything.....but by the way.....you seem to be glowing....lol

Thanks Alyss....I will take it easy.....and by the way...is that a glow I see in your face too?  xo

Secret.....got it....I will head to the store....Ankle brace, ankle brace, ankle brace..... can you believe it?   Love ya!

jeez, jenna, sorry to hear about your ankle--but i agree with the others, that's not a sign of getting old! heck, my then-girlfriend sprained her ankle exactly 1 year before our wedding and she was in her 20s at the time! i say chalk this one up to a sports injury. :>

    how's your recovery going?
