I liked seeing Wanderlei Silva knock out Keith Jardine. Rooting for the Axe Murderer all the way. I don't have anything against Jardine, except for the crappy sportsmanship he showed before this fight.
I don't get it. Why does Keith Jardine come out to the center of the ring and put on this mean stupid face as he glares at Wanderlei? What the fuck is that about? Worse, why does he refuse to tap gloves with him, and instead gives him a shove in the chest? What kind of crap is that? He thinks he's going to intimidate the Axe Murderer? What is he, stupid? Why such poor sportsmanship? He thinks it's tough to be like that? Fedor Emelianenko averts his eyes out of respect before a fight, and humbly touches gloves with anyone. Come on. Are we in the ghetto now? That bullshit doesn't work. It just reflects badly on the punk.
Jardine fights weird. He's all gangly and disorganized. I used to think Chuck Liddell fought weird, which he does, but Jardine is a lot weirder.
One piece of advice I would give Jardine. Keep your fuckin hands up, you idiot. It was a clear shot for Wanderlei, right in the overly exposed jaw. Jardine's hands were nowhere near high enough to protect his face. He's no Muhammad Ali. He can't dance around with his hands low.
Who can fail to appreciate Wanderlei Silva? Even when he loses, he's great. His face can be a bloody mask, he doesn't care, he keeps coming forward with bombs. He really doesn't care. I see nothing to dislike in this guy. He's humble, he's a real warrior, he never stalls, he's exciting, he's a family man who loves kids, he's a softie and at the same time a hundred times tougher than a punk biker.
Can't paint Jardine as a villain. Just tell him to cut the crap, he ain't scaring anyone, he's just making himself look like an asshole. He didn't look all that scary when he was on his back, glassy eyed, after the ref crouched over him and protected him from Wanderlei.
It was also strange to notice that Jardine is older than Wanderlei, by a year. Wanderlei has been in this sport forever. I don't think of him as such a young man. I think of him as a guy who peaked out a few years ago and is now still holding on, 90% of his former self, still tough. I think this sport ages you.
The one person I really can't stand in the UFC is that announcer Bruce Buffer. What an annoying phony he is. His idiotic movements and pet phrases. His idiotic and phony vocal bullshit. Now and then he changes his phony annoying bullshit shtick into a different phony annoying bullshit shtick. He used to emphasize the word "Fighter" all the time. And in the blue corner, the FIGHTER, ...." Saying that word louder than the rest. Shut the fuck up.
Now he stopped doing that, thank God, Jesus and Mary a thousand times. Instead he moves like a puppet on speed, suddenly, shifting his whole body in the phoniest, stupidest way, as he focuses on the first fighter. He makes this sudden move, this sudden twist of his body. Oh I just want to kick his ass. Stupid fuck. These stupid little formulas he adopts, so damn phony. The phoniness reeks like the cheapest perfume poured straight from the bottle.
It used to be a tie for me, between this idiot Buffer and the idiot announcer Mike Goldberg. He has his phony formulas too, and he is sooooooooooo phony. But my antipathy for Goldberg has decreased to only 80% of what it used to be. I still can't stand him but I tolerate him a bit more. He still sucks. Carnival barker Mike Goldberg, raising his voice suddenly like he's talking to young kids and trying to keep their attention. Just the way the first thing out of his mouth, after the fighters and ref are introduced, is always "Herb Dean our referee". I say it along with him. "Steve Mazagatti our referee". How come I can say his line before he says it. Change, for Christ's sake. Actually I can accept his predictability, but what I can't stand even worse is the way he raises his voice in such a phony carnival barker way, like that is the way you are supposed to announce a fight. It's PHONY. That disqualifies it right there. PHONY drives me nuts.
Rogan is pretty good. Frank Trigg is good. Frank Mir is good. That idiot Mauro Ranallo is about done, for me. The wrestler Goldberg is okay. Couture was always a good commentator, really excellent actually. The theme is that the guys who actually know how to fight make good commentators, and the network guys like Ranallo and Mike Goldberg suck, they think they know what they're doing, and they give us bullshit. Drop the network guys and just keep the guys who know something and feel no need to be phony. Why do they need a network guy anyway? They don't. They just think they do. Put Rogan with Trigg or Mir, you're all set, you get a much more enjoyable and knowledgeable conversation.
Oh wait, how can I leave out Stephen Quadros with those mad eyes of his. The Fight Professor, as that prick Mauro Ranallo calls him. Quadros of the crazy eyes. Is he human or is he from Mars? Can you look at that face and be sure? One thing Stephen Quadros can be counted on is to say "that submission hold won't work, it isn't deep enough" and then the guy is tapping. Like clockwork.
