I'll tell you what, kids, I was really into my domesticity today.  I didn't go anywhere, and actually slept pretty late, if you don't count being awakened at 5:30 a.m. by the phone.  (mrMimi's job is one of those that requires being on call 24 hours a day every few weeks.)

Usually I avoid being in the kitchen any more than I absolutely have to, but I puttered around all afternoon, cleaning the stove, washing every dish in the house it seemed like, and cooking.  I made pasta salad -- well, I call it macaroni salad.  The old fashioned kind with chopped pickles, onions, and hard boiled eggs, with a ton of mayo and mustard.  This was from before they had all those la-di-dah recipes for  pasta salad.

I had some old squishy bananas hanging around so I made banana blueberry muffins.  But they were healthy sort of.  I snuck in some wheat germ.  What he doesn't know won't hurt him.  Mmmmm... Warm muffins with a little butter.  I have all but stopped baking because I don't need all those carbs calling my name, so these were a real treat.

I spent some time doing the hand sewing on the binding of the quilt I made for the daughter of a friend, but honestly?  Working with a quilt in your lap in the middle of summer is more efficient than a sauna for getting a good sweat going.  mrMimi was complaining that the AC was too cold, and I was ready to pass out from extreme sweating -- a typical evening at la casa de Mimi.

I even ironed.  At that point I knew I had reached the limit of my domestic free-for-all.  So I took a shower and logged on to SoulCast.  Ahhh...  much better.

Ironing is something that I have not mastered at all.... I'm not that experienced at cooking but at least I got enough sense to pull it off the fire before it burns.

mimi- I wonder what causes these spurts of ingenuity and creativity which induce sweat and exertion? I've actually done this too. Its just not normal, I tell ya.
  • botoni said on Jul 27, 2008....
Missy!  You only made one small error with that wild burst of domesticity.  You did it at your house instead of mine.  Ahh....such is life.
  • CreativeWoman said on Jul 27, 2008....
I use my iron as a paper weight.  :-)  Sounds like you had quite the energy burst, Mimi.  The muffins made my mouth water.

Those muffins sound delicious. Hope you get to enjoy eating them!

Fallyn -- yes, when I caught myself ironing, I knew I had crossed the line.  ;)

queenie -- no, he didn't.  He did his thing, whatever that is, and I did mine, and we co-existed very peacefully.  :)

quilty -- Thanks for the ovation, but it was only three things, and it took me all of aout 30 minutes.  But still.  Usually when the iron's on, it means I'm sewing.  Gotta press those quarter-inch seams... lol

skald -- I would have loved to have you over for dinner.  Please consider yourself invited, whenever you like.  :)

MeMy -- These bursts of domesticity are becomeing more infrequent.  But I woke up yesterday ready to go.  I even did laundry.  You have a great day too!  :)

Rc -- I'll be honest, I'm not good at it, either.  Shirts defeat me every time, therefore I don't buy very many clothes that need ironing.

beyond -- I've wondered that too.  It may have something to do with getting enough sleep.  But I agree, it is abnormal and scary.  lol

botty -- now if I came to visit, you mean you'd put me to work?  Hmmm.  What a tempting offer.  I was hoping to watch you play construction worker.  ;)

CDub -- LOL!  Mine does duty as a pattern weight, a ruler holder, and even an envelope opener-upper.  The muffins were tasty and small, so that my blood sugar numbers didn't go as crazy as I thought they would.

Alyss -- thanks!  I froze half of them, otherwise I would have almost certainly enjoyed way too many of them.  Come and join me for muffins and tea!

I've got a better idea Mimibabes.....lets just have a good sweat under the quilt together.

    Mimi,
I find that adding the fiber like you did with the wheat germ offsets the total carbs and how they absorb.  I never new that diabetes was going to turn me into a mini-scientist.  lol  It sounds like you are doing great.  :-)

Mamie -- I saw that my MIL was into quilting, and it appealed to me, so I taught myself how to do it.  Lotsa mistakes...  Lotsa swearing...

I now have whole wheat flour and wheat germ.  I found out that you can replace some of the white flour with those and sneak in the fiber.

yakacha -- You're welcome for the free advertising, but spam ticks me off.

pcakes -- I saw your wedding blog.  You looked luverly.  :)  After a big weekend of socializing, I would have no energy for cleaning.  I vote for only doing what absolutely must be done.

botty -- oooh-la-la, you little flirt!  LOL  Sure baby, come on over!

CDub -- that's what I heard that fiber makes the carbs more easily metabolized.  Excellent news.  I plan on sprinkling wheat germ on my Hershey bars.  ;)

thanks for the scoop on wheat germ on my hershey bars! Phew! That will make a big difference! LOL about spam....you are simply delightful, do you know that? I can't wait to meet you in person someday (yea, yea, I know, no oprah...but she would like us, alot!)
  • CreativeWoman said on Jul 28, 2008....
    Mimi,
I have found that cucumbers have been a magic stabilizer with my meals because of their fiber,  especially when I find myself  eating out at a buffet.   I wonder how they would be dipped in chocolate?   lol

  • MissMimi said on Jul 28, 2008....

Mame, when you said spam, my first thought was ugh, wheat germ sprinkled on Spam!  LOL  Sharp as a tack today, yes indeed...

CDub -- For me it's raw carrots, well, really most any raw veggie, but carrots are most often what I have.  But fiber does seem to have an effect on my numbers.  Chocolate-covered cucumbers are just wrong on so many levels.  Can we switch to pickles instead?  Now that has possibilities... lol

  • CreativeWoman said on Jul 29, 2008....
    Mimi,
I'm not big on carrots, but I'll stick with my cucumbers before they become pickles. lol  I really  hate the tast of anything that has an accompanying vinegar smell.  That really turns off my taste buds in a hurry.

This is a GOOD one! I still can't believe this one myself........
does it matter???...
because i'm fat......
One of my friends at work was telling me about this date she went on the other night, and she wanted a man's opinion about the whole thing. I was more than happy to tell her what I thought, but I am curious what other people might think too....
