Obviously, I write about things I'm interested in. Of course, Adsense picks out key words from my blog and finds the appropriate ad for the content. Well, here's the problem. I see ads that I would be interested in, in my ow blog. Yet, due to the agreement with Google, I'm not allowed to click on my own ads. See the problem? I'm not going to click on my own ads, because I know that results in the termination of my Adsense account, but I can't help being interested in what I am interested in.

I just wanted Google to know that I REALLY want to sometimes.

Anyone else have this problem?

You know, Grape, that is funny you say that. I haven't been able to get my AdSense account numbers to take (SoulCast gives me an error message), so maybe my opinion doesn't count... Anyway, I mentioned a brand of condoms in one of my blogs--and because I didn't know if they existed anymore, one of my readers wrote me back and pointed out an ad. Curious, I checked it out. Are you telling me that if you click it, they'll drop you like a hot potato? I thought they wouldn't count your clicks--sort of like SoulCast having the two different view counts (have you noticed that?). I gotta say curiosity would have already gotten this cat. Oh, hi, by the way! Nice to talk to someone so mellow. I seem to be either (a) putting my foot in my mouth or (b) being misconstrued. But regardless, it has thrown me off today, and it discomforting. Thanks for introducing a topic I cannot possibly screw up! =)

LOL Everyone's entitled to a day like that now and again. Regarding the issue of clicking your own ads, it's understandable that Google wants to protect itself from people wanting to commit fraud by clicking their own ads for hours(hence the "no clicking your own ads" rule), but like I said, what if I'm really interested in it? I'm sure frantic clicking of your own ads will result in a cancellation, but a single click? I just don't know. It was just a thought. Besides, all the ads on my blog right now is about Ice cream trucks, because of a sigle post of mine regarding the topic. Not that I'm really interested in owning an Ice cream truck or anythinng, I guess my curiosity's more along the lines of the definition of the no-click policy. LG, don't worry about putting people off today. It happens once in a while. It's easy for people to interpret a collection of words in various ways to fit their own agenda(or their own mindset) and not really consider the author's original intent. Especially(as for me) when you leave a brief, curt comment consisting of a few words. I know that you're a warm, caring person with insight and wisdom, and wouldn't make thoughtless comments to incite the rubes(I save that for other forums).

Good question. I must confess, I have clicked ads on my pages a couple of times for the very reason you cite. I really wanted to look at them. But heaven forbid I lose these pennies a day that I am making and will probably never see. Write on.

I have clicked a few 'own' ads out of interest. don't tell Google is so bigoted in thinking and cancel your account? As Jade says, it can ignore those clicks, easy.. Hope we have an enlightened 'employer' and who also reads your blog. Try contacting them? Seeing the Devil is easier, . . . . . .

Oops, that last comment was for JL, and I put LG instead. So sorry JL. Soulcast definitely needs an edit comments feature.

But soulcast seems to be 'deaf' to our needs, GrapeKoolaid. BTW, that's a 'cool' name
  • GrapeKoolaid said on Aug 15, 2006....
Thanks, Susm. It's a name I've been using for a few years now. silverwhisper has a post on his blog asking people about their screen names and I posted a brief history of GKA over there. Perhaps you could do the same? I am interested in the significance behind your name. I'd post a link, but I don't know how. I'm not as tech-savvy as many others here.

My name? Susmaryosep is a "cut-out" from 3 names ie Jesus, Mary and Joseph. ! it's actually a Filipino exclamation, something like "Oh, my God" :-))
  • Susmaryosep said on Aug 15, 2006....
    BTW, I am NOT Filipino.

I've actually forgotten this on occasion and clicked mine without realizing and then my heart has sunk when I have realized what I have done. Luckily, pressing the back button seems to have discounted the click. Now I just type the url I am interested in, in a new browser :) PJB

Let me just tell you a little something about AdSense. I had it set up on another site under our business name. I accidentally clicked on one of the ads one time, truly accidentally, I was clicking through the site and I "mis-moused" and instead of the "Next Page" link, I inadvertently clicked on one of the Google ads. Man, two days later I got this nasty email from Google saying they had detected "Invalid Clicks" and threatening to cancel my account and ban me from the service if it happened again. After that I was doubly careful about taking my time clicking through the pages during updates. My wife, however, didn't know about the prohibition against clicking them. She would go in and, browsing through the site from her job (from her JOB mind you, not even from our main computer -- different IP and everything!), from time to time she would click on an ad on the site that struck her interest. By this time I had been running their ads on the site for about a month and a half and we had earned right at $150 in Adsense commissions. One day I got this email from Google saying they had cancelled my account for "Invalid Clicks". When I asked them, no begged them to tell me which clicks were invalid, they flatly refused to tell me claiming it was a part of their "proprietary technology". They refunded all our commissions to the advertisers and totally stiffed us. They got over a month of free advertising and didn't even tell us why they were shit-canning us. So, believe them when they say they will cancel your account and give your commissions back to the Advertisers! And you don't get to say a damn thing about it! Nasty business, this Google! Q

It's alright, Grape--I called someone by a different username a week or so ago. I felt really bad, too. It's okay--I knew you were talking to me. Susomaryosep: I thought your name seemed like it might be related to that. Cool to know for sure.

This happened to me yesterday. I really wanted to click an ad on one of my topics (about my computer being so slow). I mean, I really wanted to get help. Good thing though, I was able to stop myself from doing it. I thought, I could always go to the Google search engine and click the results for all I want.

Do you think google reads all these feedback, like a good corporate citizen, or do they say take it or shove it? :-(

If you're really interested, then why not to do that? Just don't become interested too much times ;-)

    I have 2 questions.

    1. Is going right click-open link in new tab the same as a click? I hate having it open the target window in the same tab, but I'd hate to stiff a blogger if that doesn't count.

    2. Can someone click something on mine? I know, I just started doing this a day ago, and I'm being very impatient, I just want to see if it WORKS... if it shows up with a penny or whatever on my google account.... it would be so exciting... :)
  • GrapeKoolaid said on Aug 30, 2006....
    1: yes.
    2: There, hope it helps.

    :)
  • StrangeOne said on Aug 30, 2006....
    1. ok great, I will continue to right-click then :)

    2. ooooooooh, it worked!!!! that is so cool, I post some stuff here, then I go look the next day and a bunch of cents magically appear... that's awesome. Thanks! :)

    thanks!
