Right now I dont want to go into the details.  Suffice to say that I was forced to get a new camera on the way home from my trip to the west coast.  Here are a few pics of some of Canadas' scenery in the interior of British Columbia.

In the pic above there are two abandoned brick houses that have had my curiousity since I was a child.  They are located north of Radium in a rather remote spot.  Someday I'll put some effort into finding out their history.

Above is an abandoned railway station and caboose that have been preserved.  Most of these stations are gone now but they were a very familiar sight through most of western Canada in my childhood.

The pic above is a sculpture on the shore of Okanagon Lake at Kelowna.

Some children playing on the beach at Kelowna managed to get this butterfly to rest on their hands.  They were able to move it from child to child with no objection from it what so ever.

If I can rescue more pics from the tragic end of my older camera I'll have a few more soon.

Oh botty...  Your poor little sweet little cute little camera.

Every time I come west, I am always awestruck by the scenery.  I can't imagine having that kind of view out my back window.  Absolutely breath taking.  I would ride in the car with my jaw on the floor in amazement.

    Thanks for sharing your pics.

When's your next trip, Bot? Can I tag along? So I could see these fantastic sights, make sure your camera's alright, and personally say Hi to all Vancouver Asians... ;-)

Oh, the scenery is so lovely.....!  I absolutely love railroad stations....would like to have seen this especially.  Hope you had a nice trip and good to see you!

Lovely pictures Botti!  You have my curiosity up about the abandoned houses as well.

wow, botoni--i could write whole paragraphs about each pic, but my time is limited so i'll just ask one question: could you tell me more about that sculpture? it intrigues me, as it seems so out of place there!

Mimsi....Thank you.  I love these little excursions through the mountains.  In Calgary we have a distant view of the mountains to the west.  Maybe my new camera will be powerful enough to get a shot that will give you the idea.  Be careful about that chin on the floor thing.  It can get ya in a lot of trouble!

Moon....Looks like I'll be making an August trip too.  You're welcome to come along.  I spent a few days on the corner of Main and Keefer giving your greetings.  Many asians said something in Chinese that sounds like 'Say Ma!' when I spoke to them.  (Hehehehe)

Wombie.....I've a thing for old rail stations myself.  I'll keep an eye out for others for you.

Fearing......I have a suspicion that they were built by a religious sect that found the terrain inhospitable to their communal agricultural lifestyle.

Secret......Thanks.  It really was an enjoyable trip with lots of fun highlights.  I'll blog about more of them soon.

Silver.....That sculpture really requires pics from several different angles.  It is on the shore of a large lake near the marina that is home to many small sailing vessels.  The sculpture represents a mast and sails.  If you look in the center of it you can identify the mast.

Thanks Botoni! How beautiful they are. Not much like St. Thomas but they will do!!! Sorry you had camera problems.

Hey Botty!!  I loved your photos. . .the scenery is amazing.  I really like the photo of the old abandoned house in the forest.  Canada is a beautiful place and I would love to visit there some time.  And I loved the last pic of the butterfly. . .I love butterflies!! :-))  Thank you for sharing, dear friend!!

    Love Polar

Queen......thanks.  That butterfly just amazed me.  The kids must have played with it for at least a half hour.  It seemed totally content to move from one hand to another.

Woman.....You're darn tootin' it aint St. T.  The camera bit could have been a blessing in disguise.  I've been craving a new one.

Polar......Gather up your travelling mates (Skald & Quiet) and make a trip to Canada.  I'd love to show you 'my' chunk.

A religious sect?  Now I'm even more intrigued.

Botty, you've got yourself a deal!! Thanks Hun!
  • botoni said on Jul 20, 2008....

Fearing.....there were Dukabhors in the area in the fifties.  I suspect it was one of their settlements but I'll try to find out more.

Polar.....I'm all excited!  Shall I change the linens now or wait a few days?

Corner of Main and Keefer seems like a nice vantage point. (I'm not familiar with Vancouver, haven't been there, although I have family there...)

"Shei ma," huh? Tell 'em, "It's that fuckin Yueh Lianghe who I don't even know, that's who!" Lol.

So, my friend, "Ni hao ma?" yourself?

  • botoni said on Jul 20, 2008....

Moon....Ya got me.  Tjhe 'Shei ma' is what a very elderly lady used to say to my former partner who was a nurse in a seniors home.  I know what that means but unfortunately I'm not up with your next phrase.  Darn, and I was doing so well at bluffing till ya called me!.....Main and Keefer is about the center of Old Chinatown in Vancouver.  My buddy lives about 3 blocks from there.  When I visit I go to the night market at that intersection of Friday nights.  Some amazing bargains and some excellent food are available.  Next time you get a chance to come to Canada I'll give you the tour.

  • moonriver said on Jul 20, 2008....
Bots... lol. Ni hao ma = How are you? (Although in official Mandarin, it's Wen hao ma)

Old Chinatown... night market... Friday nights... perfect setting. One of these months, my friend, I may just surprise you with a request for an instant tour and an invitation to meet my relatives there in your side of the pond ... :-)

    So, ni hao ma?

  • botoni said on Jul 21, 2008....

LOL Moon!  I tried using a Chinese to English on line translation to decifer ni hao ma.  I got something about a piece of cloth.  So much for my skills.

There are few things that would thrill me more than a surprise request and an invite to meet your Vancouver relatives.  Maybe they could help me find the market that sells banana blossoms.  I tried but kept ending up with dried fish and mushroom stores instead.

In answer....I'm very well thank you.

Beautiful scenery Botani.  I'd be driving around taking pics with my digital all the time if I was up there.  What beautiful countryside.
