Hey bloggers,

I am working on a novel, and its almost done, maybe 50 or so pages left to write and when I get that close to the end of it, I usually write fast and it gets done in no time at all. I usually write poems every few days as the inspiration strikes me. Heck, I randomly write things out for no reason (i.e. thoughts on napkins at restraunts, on receipts, my hand, etc)...

But for some reason, I cant seem to do any of that right now. Its just not there. I cant combine my thoughts enough to move forward on my novel, I cant string 2 intellectual ideas together to make a semi decent poem, and even my randomly written thoughts are shallow, at best.

I have deduced that I have...wait for it...writers block! *gasp*

So, here I am, in my state of writers block, curious as to what you, far more experienced writers than I, do when you are just "stuck"... Does it happen to you? how often? have you found things that help you get out of it? and if so, what?

Cant wait to see what y'all have to say!

Hi nightshadow -- Here's a short blog I wrote more than a year ago on this subject, entitled writing is breathing. And secretlife is right, too. Do other things to keep you occupied. In my case, the most effective break is strenuous physical activity, preferably outdoors. Like they say, 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration. Lol.

whenver i cant write/concentrate/get to sleep i go to a blank page of my diary and write a list of all the things bothering me/need to be done/that im struggling to do

    eg
    1.im having trouble writing
2.i think nat may have fallen out with me
    3. i miss my grandad
    4. i need to post that letter

i find most of them are interlinked- so i post the letter, ring nat, talk to my little sister about my grandad and then try wrting again

    just how my head works

I find that going on a complete binge of media helps sometimes, the rest of the time grinding it out helps.

Secretlife, *sigh of relief* good to know that it happens to you as well, lol. Thanks, at least I know now that it always come back. I'll try to keep myself busy until it does. Thanks!

Moonriver, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I'll have to try that out, maybe push myself to the limits these next few days. Thanks! I'll check out that blog.

Phie, hmmm, very interesting, my dear! I will try that out. Thanks =)

SeanRenaud, wow, a compete binge of media. Never would have thought of that!

I guess I have a lot of these to try now. Thanks y'all!

I had to take a break from SC, literally.  I was under so much stress and having physical problems I needed to take a break.

What also did was wrote a list of what I wanted to talk about and just went from there when I was ready to write.

Princess, thanks! I took a short break from SC, considering my writer's block didn't start till after I started blogging here, but it didnt seem to help. I think I will try making a list though. That might help. Thanks!
